So I've bought this, at vast expense. MGB engine and o/d gearbox, body and interior all in spiffy condition.

However, still pretty much incapable of stopping, or going round corners. All suspension / steering /front brakes are in good condition, but all are going to have to go in favour of something a little more modern, and bollocks to the purists.

"window picture and fax viewer". I presume my internet skillz have bollocksed this up yet again..

Really lovely, well bought !

I'm not sure I would bother with upgraded suspension and steering, to be honest. I used to have a 'Farina sports coupe' and even that, with its rack and pinion steering and stiffer, lower suspension felt thoroughly unsuitable for fast driving.

I would definitely invest in better brakes, though. Despite the lighter 'sports coupe' body and two-pot calipers, stopping was a far more leisurely procedure than I would want it to be.

That's wonderful! I took my driving test in one. And passed the other teenage test there too.

Get it a set of Rostyles for starters.

Lots more pics please!

Sweet!  Stuff the purists, upgrading the brakes is a good idea these days.  I'm with SornMe on the Rostyles too, but that's a matter of taste.

That does look nice. For some reason the colour scheme is making me hungry.

There is nowt wrong with upgrading a car to make it safer IMO as long as it doesn't destroy it (like american bumpers on anything sent over form the UK in the 70's)

Very classy looking car that, was driven to my first day of secondary school in one. Very rare now I should imagine, and that's a lovely paint scheme.

Now on Minilites.........there is heinous talk of narrowed Jaaaaag front end and a small block Ford 302 V8, which apparently fits without inner wing/bulkhead molestation.

Lots of want.....and feeling bad for neglecting my Farina.     Still have MGB/box/OD put by but too lazy/skint to persue....Good luck with her she is a beaut.

Nice!  I have a soft spot for the MG Magnette Farina.

Whenever I do some internet research on upgrading one it always seems like a lot of faffing around to even get things to MGB standard.  Stuff like front suspension and gearbox aren't quite as compatible as you'd hope so disc brakes and overdrive seem complicated.

For improved handling you'd think that proper dampers, a little lowering and better rear axle location would be the fix, but I don't know how simple it is for the Farina.

There are about eleventy ways of fitting discs, none of which are straight forward. MGB stub axles and discs fit, but bugger up the steering geometery, MGA and Healey discs also fit, but cost the earth. Apparently, FX4 taxi stub axles are identical, some of the late ones had discs, but the bolt pattern for the wheels was completely different......It may be easier to chuck the lot out, and fit something else, but the old girl has an extremely [for it's size] narrow track. Research continues!

I intend making this into a dangerously fast car, whilst still keeping the tartan rug and trilby exterior appearance

In my Riley 4/72 & MG Magnette period I wanted to do this and my favourite daydream was to use the go bits from a Rolls and the front suspension from a Jag.

Being more mature and sensible nowadays, I daydream of using Daimler Conquest V8 and suspension. Whatever, keep it all British and in period. (Modern brakes and tyres probably a good idea)

I think Goodyear Bluestreak racing crossplies are the way to go, but you'd be better off asking the opinion of a normal person.

Jag front end is deffo on the cards [narrowed by about nine yards.] As for motive power, Ford 302 with 5 speed is currently favourite, being nice and compact. Scimitar SE5 back end, as narrow enough to fit.[Anyone out there with one for sale?

I might have one to spare in the next few weeks but would need to get near the going rate for it.

I really like it as it is. Boring ol' me! The Riley has the best fins of the Farinas IMHO.

Lovely motor, almost a shame to mod it.

Surely a jag back end is the way to go though?

Just an opinion.....

MG running gear/uprated and rostyles are great on this kind of car...sort of sympathetic and period if you like.

Big V8 changing axles though all a bit Custom Car/Kit Car and will remove it's character?

I type this as a former avid reader of Custom Car......

Pretty sure there's already a 4/72 out there with some daft American V8 in it, but boggo looks. 427 big block IIRC.
