Right just picked up our new car. Renault clio 1.4 auto. L plate 55k from new and full history. Rt spec so got remote locking electric windows, power steering and a sun roof. New exhaust not long fitted. Sport and comfort mode on gearbox and its the 4 speed auto box not a 3 which I was surprised at. Drives nice and quiet quick too. Some play in the throttle cable but that's about it. Any guesses on cost??!!

May I be the first to say 'beware the autobox'?!  (have personal experience of these things detonating for no reason  )

Can I respectfully guess £175?  :-?

Brave! I like that. There's a lot of fun to be had in buying stuff everyone is very wary of. Especially if you manage to get through it unscathed...

175 not too far off the mark! Can't find the bloody dipstick for transmission fluid though!

Bargain if it holds together* :)

I always liked the super-comfy seats in ours.... oh, and flippy cover thingy that hides the stereo when you're parked!

Seats are very comfy. Ok I give in. I bargained down to 115 of the queens finest. Can't really grumble as its less than scrap

Come on - make with the pics!

My guess is that there isn't a dipstick - it's probably 'sealed for life,' which is probably why they go wrong.

Come on be realistic or I'm not playing!!

50p? It's a Renault and it's automatic.

Can't upload pics cos I'm on my phone. I can email to someone to upload though?

I did see that. Oh well nothing ventured and all that! If it knackers up it will fetch more in scrap!

Best use if a clio is letting dope smoking Spaniards write it off? Bit harsh!

There is a man in France whose job it is to press a button when your Renault automatic has reached a pre-determined mileage. When he does, your transmission explodes.

Oh well. That's what this site is about. Love for the unloved. And what's more of a gamble than having a 20 year old French car with an electronic auto gearbox and doing on average 2000 miles a month or more!

There is a dial on the dash I'm unsure what it does. When you turn the ignition on it goes to the top with a row of lights inside. When the engine is started it doesn't seem to do anything! It's the little dial at the side of the temperature gauge. Petrol gauge above it and rev counter and speedily either side. I'm guessing its an oil level check when ignition on and the lights around it are on but shouldn't it do something when driving. Oil temp maybe?

I thought that when ignition on but shouldn't it do something when engine running?

No only moves when you first put ignition on, I just got rid of a 98 ® plate auto 44k miles, beware the first down pour, all sunroofs leak on these then foook up the senser for the blipper in roof (mirror area). only car that had a cracking heater but I hated the thing to drive. Good luck with yours. Oh beware the dreaded rot underneath, mine was rotten as a pear.

This one had 4 owners from new and has been rust treated at some point. A couple of frilly edges but can't grumble for the age and price. Did ask about sunroof. Previous owner said it don't leak and can't see no signs of leaks on roof lining or corrosion on the roof running area. If it goes through its mot fine ill go through it properly,if causes issues ill weigh it in!

You have a collecters item there if the roof is not siliconed shut, A walk around the works carpark says that even the newer shape ones have leaks too!.

anyway as said before, enjoy.

Won't be enjoying it. Will be weighed in after todays escapade. Went for mot check and found needs a fair bit of welding which I can't afford. Damn not working due to illness. Really up the creek now

Seriously, give Lankytim a pm, he has a perfect little car there for you.

God only knows how but my mate who world at the garage has sold the clio. Someone came in asking about it. He said it needs welding, chap looked round it an offered 450 cash!

You lucky, lucky bastard.

As Billy said, Lankytim (Stoke on trent) has a cheap AX (I think) for sale.
