SVM nearly had a multi Volvo pile up when some cuntclot in a Mazda 2 stopped dead from 50mph just before Newtown.

This is how we discovered my 940 has no ABS...

Good job Gary wasn't in your Volvo convoy then! His Volvo didn't seem keen on stopping.

Too tired to sift through all 416 photos, but this one sums up things well enough.

I have made it back home!

This didn't happen without incident, but the engine never stopped. I shall elaborate later.

The Kia Pride of much refinement unfortunately never missed a beat. Bloody reliable cheap cars.

I did attend, but to my shame was in my Alto rather than anything suitable*, (I did think of cable tying my spare A35 grille to the front). My apologies to anyone that I didn't speak to, but it's probably just as well as I have a tendency to bore people rigid, so my apologies to those that I did speak to as well. The highlight of the day for me was the single seater racing Lada, I wasn't brave enough to request a test drive though.

I am now back home in Lincolnshire. Panda now has an additional 500 miles added to the odo...

It was great to catch up with everybody and a shame I couldn't stay longer, but glad I did it.

I got to Derby about 1pm yesterday, for my neice's party. Fairly uneventful journey, clear through Newtown, hold-ups were everybody coming into Wales, not leaving... Lots of Rally cars, some triumphs, and a brown P6 was spotted...

Here are some pics from Friday afternoon. I wanted to avoid Newtown, so came via Machynlleth, then over the top...

Thanks to Ian for his organisation

Andy for being my car buddy of the weekend

everybody else for being who you are and having a good time

and the Kia Pride for running without a hassle for 270 miles given that I had done all of 10 miles in it from buying it to Saturday morning.

The Italian tune-up given to it by various people running it up the hill this morning has worked a treat.

A top weekend was very much had and photos are currently uploading (slowly) to flicker for later posting.

Saturday morning I was very tempted to head back to SF14.

Good fun. Some of the cars I missed look amusing.

What a fantastic weekend, I haven't had that much fun for a long while. My little Acclaim done itself proud too, It covered 580 miles in all, used £90 in petrol and never once missed a bit, whether it was sitting for a hour on the A14 on Friday without moving, crawling around the M6 during rush hour or being driving back today at 70-80mph all the way, what a bloody excellent little car, and most of that was whilst it loaded up with over 300 Motor magazines too!

I'll make a proper post once I've unwound and showered but for now here's one of my highlights of the weekend, RobT driving and BrookJM enjoying the Acclaim on the Autoshite test track yesterday with a bit of 80's music going on!

The 504 chugged along faultlessly** though I feel I must apologise to those travelling behind it in the museum convoy as I think there was some emissions happening as it climbed the welsh hills 7 up and with a weighty stash of old CAR issues lobbed in the boot. (thanks for those Gary)

** I had to stop and retrieve some trim on the way up after it was shaken off riding over some rumble srtrips approaching a roundabout. On the homeward leg somewhere between weston and dartmoor the radiator grill seems to have fallen off.

Made it home without incident in time for lunch and confirmed that the 220's brake caliper is perfect, the little rubbing noise has vanished and it was tracking and braking perfectly.  I even sailed past Jim in the wonderful 504 making stately progress down the M5.

It was great to meet everyone and put some names to faces, some of which I may even remember 2 days from now.  Particular thanks go to to Joe for the Rover parts and tea, Will for the opportunity to thrash the world's ropiest Samara up a Welsh hillside (an activity which should be prescribed on the NHS as a cure for depression), Philibusmo and Conrad D. Conelrad for the Y10 and P6 test drives and of course dollywobbler for organising the whole thing, it was a great weekend.  Being whisked around Wales on Saturday night in a gorgeous v8 SD1 and Peugeot 504 diesel just made it better.  Seeing the buzz a decaying 2-stroke Mk3 Fiesta caused at the pump museum was...very Autoshite.

Bring on 2015!

I was unable to attend the ShiteFest-ivities due to a late vicarious musical commitment, but all was not lost.  On meeting Captain Trigsworth earlier today in a layby off the M54* (to collect the 300-mag deadweight he'd carried 1.5 times across the country) I was offered the opportunity for a spin in the ACCLAIM OF WIN.

As most of those who were at Shitefest will know, the Lancia Y10 suffered from a failure to proceed this morning due to reasons yet to be explained.

Effectively it wouldn't start with the starter motor solenoid just making a clunk and nothing else happening. With a bump start it blatted off nicely, so it was decided that I would fill up at the local petrol station, then get bump started by a Volvo load of shiters and be on my way, making sure at no point between Devils Bridge and Tiverton was the engine turned off. This meant economy was the order of the day to complete my 170 mile journey.

Within 10 miles a slight clunking noise was audible from the drivers side front suspension. Within a further two miles the Lancia looked like this:

k8JMCLZ.jpg?1

Engine still running of course.

The noise was due to one of the bolts which holds the brake caliper in place had become inexplicably loose and was about to make a bid for freedom. Quickly tweeking it back into place had it sorted. This was a lovely spot to break down.

hLmdPFP.jpg?1

Even if my first attempt at a photo did get photobombed by a Renault Modus:

EmJOtqg.jpg?1

I set off again, and it was all going very nicely for about another 10 miles when the brake caliper that I had just secured decided that the best possible thing it could do would be to start sticking, causing a horrible smell and poor breaks. This was temporarily resolved by dousing the wheel in water, which seemed to cool it down and unstick it until another moment of hard braking was needed at which point it would start sticking again.

I ended up stopping once ever couple of miles during the first half of the journey to unstick the brake caliper, during which time the arch liner also decided that being attached to the car was not what it wanted to be. Luckily it was still partially attached and un-damaged so I managed to stop in a Co-op car park and rip it out. Notice the puddle from sloshing water on the brake.

AO9FriN.jpg?1

Apart from the water throwing stops the journey went quite smoothly from here on in. I ran out of water at one point and had to use a bottle of cola that I got from the petrol station, luckily I found a stream very near the next lay by I had to stop in and so filled up the water bottle from that and it lasted the rest of the journey. Once I was on the motorway I managed to avoid any hard braking until the very end of the trip when I exited the M5 which made the second stretch much quicker. I have found that at speeds of over 80MPH (private test track) the door mirrors fold in with the wind which is GR9 rear vision

I managed to get to TIverton on about three quarters of a tank of petrol. As you can imagine, punting a car that loved to be revved hard, over the Brecon Beacons with a slightly dodgy clutch (worse again today) and binding brakes is not the most economical way to travel.

Many thanks to Mr Wobbler for an excellent event, along with everyone else there - it was a thoroughly excellent weekend, despite the slightly complicated return journey.

Of course I have come back to the Lancia this evening and thought I would just see if it would start - the little bastard started first turn of the key.
