Ah yes. I remember your exciting exploits in the wood in that BX...

I hasten to add that Mr. Dollywobbler was not in any way involved in these exciting exploits, just in case anyone gets the wrong idea! As a potential quiet spot to spend the night I had selected from the map the amusingly named Foret de Bastard,

which turned out to have rather more people clustered in the darkest corner of the car park than I felt comfortable with. After making an escape the spot I ended up in turned out to be a bit of a mud bath after several days rain; I briefly got stuck after my rear wheel arches jammed solid with clay. However, after a bit of rocking the car between 1st and reverse I was able to climb out of the hole the wheels had sunk into. The car was absolutely filthy though!

As an aside, the following morning I had a spot of poetic justice when behind me was an aggressive tailgater in a Megane Scenic. I couldn't go faster until the car in front of me moved over, and as he edged to within a few feet of my rear bumper a large lump of dried mud and stones dropped out of my wheel arch and exploded in his windscreen. He kept his distance after that although I almost had to pull over I was laughing so much!

I'm very late in spotting this ,

Dont think I'll do the whole weekend , but I'd like to meet up at the Museum

And yes I too have a big beard !

As I'm lazy and dont want to trawl through all the posts any chance of editing the 1st post with all the details

:P

I've never actually slept overnight in a car before so will do my best with a sleeping bag in the 220, hopefully the seats fold flat(ish).  The car's comfortable to sit in so I assume it's also going to be really comfortable to lie in, plus I've spent too much on hotels this year already so this seems like an ideal opportunity to save some pennies.

You know what Assume did? - It made an Arse out of me and you.

Or something, it's a long time since I've been on a sales course.

I hate sleeping in cars . Its the lack of privacy I dont like unless you piss around with tints/ flowery curtains etc.

I do remember that my skoda estelle had seats that made a bed though and a bx estate is ok to sleep in at a push

I'm blissful in my ignorance, don't spoil my rose-tinted dream.

In reality I suspect it will be adequate, it can't be worse than the sofa at my sister's place.

If anybody is short of a tent to sleep in, I'm more than happy to bring along my spare.

It has only been used once and is no good to me as it is far too big to carry on my rucksack.

The only proviso is that any shiter who wants to use it has to keep it (or sell it or whatever) as I will be heading straight for the Eurostar directly after CYMFEST.

This is obviously FREE to the AS crew, but I will not turn down any offers of real West Country cider.

One thing about sleeping in cars is it gets fooking cold, even in the summer.

I noticed that at Yorkshitefest. It was bloody freezing in the back of the Volvo but i suspect I may have just needed MOAR DOOVEH. Also, don't use a memory foam pillow...they do not remember heat.

Have we all seen these before? There are loads at Glastonbury, mainly just trying to sneak into the campervan section I think...

I'm not sure how comfortable this was for sleeping:

The main advantage of my ten pounds ebay used CITIZEN CAMPING tent is that it will fit into the smallest of gaps, the Smart end-on parking of the tent world...

Still, think the prize goes to whoever had this tent at Werchter festival in Belgium a few years back...

Can you actually fit (all of you) into that? I thought my tent was small but yours looks about half the size!

It's the one on the left with me standing by it for scale.

True dat. There was ice on the motors that night. Proper chilly.

Yorkshire wasn't that cold. Admittedly I effectively transferred my entire bed into the back of the Volvo with two duvets and I slept in my boxers. It was fuggin' roasting!

I'd really like to come to this, sadly I'm supposed to be working at a VW show that weekend. Might see if I can get there on the Saturday or something though. Can I just turn up or what?

Posted

Indeed. I am supposed to be at an open day...however, can I wander over if i get away?

Posted

As Shitefest is not being held at a motorsport venue am I safe in assuming it is a dog friendly event?

Posted

Double post but if anyone wants any bx bits taken to Wales in May just pm me. Dad has tonnes but is purging at the moment

Sorry, missed this post earlier. Can't see any reason why folk can't turn up at any point, though we will be museuming from roughly 5pm to 9pm. There is no charge for attendance, as this is just a gathering of friends. A reminder that there is also no charge at the museum. GR12 4 SKINFLINTS! Well, apart from having to get to deepest, darkest Wales...

There is still the matter of whether this is going to be a record gathering of Maserati Biturbos? Mind will be out and about how about next month how about the other two that lurk in this forum?

Posted

are we nearly there yet?

anyone got a picasso they dont want for cheap?? :D

No, but I can supply the fire-lighters

well it looks like I'm going to be ok for this, I need to do some work on the Lancer but it's nowt major. I take it I can just turn up, pitch my tent and talk about shite cars for the weekend and drink beer of some description or another??

That's pretty much the size of it. Doubt there's any problem stopping the Sunday night if folk want to. Some will arrive Friday, most Saturday by the sounds of it. The museum trip isn't compulsory either, though you'll miss out on fish and chips if you don't come.

sounds good to me - i'll be driving across Saturday early doors and yes I'm up for the museum trip an all.. Anyone else driving across the M62 on the Saturday morning let me know.
