Shitefest Cymru - 16th-18th May 2014

Chumley was thought to be nearer the bank holidays - they haven't posted the dates yet. My problem is fitting into my schedule, avoiding too much tourism and getting in before the midge season really kicks off!

Posted

I might be up for it, depending on my level of skintness nearer the time.  It's a 580-mile round trip for me, so still a bloody long way even if not quite so far as some of the Scottish contingent.

Looks as if I have a deadline for getting the Lancia finished. I have 'pencilled' the 16th in to my phones callander.

Amazing! But is it wise to bring a Lancia to Wales? It rains you know.

Shitefest 2013 was a 220ish mile round daytrip for me.  That was as many miles as I normally do in a fortnight, but I managed it.

Depending where I live for Welsh Shitefest it'll be 165 or 240 miles each way.  I really can't commit to that at the moment, but nearer the time if I can commit to the expense and the time I'm still totally up for it.

Chumley (or Vale Royal at Arley Hall to give it its proper, boring title) is likely to be 4th May, so a few weeks between the two events.

With that in mind, I've asked the hotel if the proposed dates are ok and they've said 'yes.'

Wot? is Chumley not back at Cholmondeley next year?

I thought this year was a one off, and back to the usual venue next year.

Still kicking myself for not attending Shitefezt '13 so fuck it, I'm in this time.

Avoiding unforeseen shit of course.

Can we bring a wooden effigy of a Xsara Picasso and burn that?

I should be able to make it next year.  I've never been to Aberwotsit or that part of Wales before so it'd make a good road trip from here.

Doesn't look like it. They've already had three Vale Royals - one in 2012 and two this year.

Effigies welcome as long as I can get fire approval.

Fire approval has been granted. Which is nice. You may need to pack firewood. Free of nails please!

Am planning two road runs as follows:

1) A super-scenic, limited numbers run which will take in some non-graded roads. Due to the nature of the terrain, I don't want too many cars on this one (no more than six or seven) so car sharing may well be required. This'll hopefully recapture some of the magic of the Monglaning this year, but will be suitable for all cars. Probably to take place on the Sunday.

2) A road run down the coast to the Internal Fire Museum. I'll see if we can get a group discount. www.internalfire.com It's quite a lengthy trek, so I need to consider when we do this. Probably Saturday. The route takes in the gorgeous coastal route known as the A487 and the Shite Cavalcade should shock the residents of the pretty town of Aberaeron as we pass through.

Can I just say that if going to be spending eight hours* travelling to this 'event' the last thing I'll want to be doing is driving some more.

I'm only going if ii can sit and get quietly bladdered with a couple of other piss heads in the field.

If I can see any cars from where I sit, I'll have a quick look.

No probs. I appreciate extra driving won't be for all, but outings can be good fun. It's a truly marvellous part of the world to just sit and relax too!

I have put into my dairy.

Stop milking the joke, BF.

I did the A487 drive in the opposite direction this summer, going from Cardigan to Preston via Portmerrion in one day - some great views especially on the coast north of Aberaeron

Am planning two road runs as follows:

1) A super-scenic, with rusty bonnets, stickers AND piles of tat on the roof, limited numbers run (according to howmanyleft.com) which will take in some non-graded roads. Due to the nature of the terrain, I don't want too many cars on this one (no more than six or seven) so car sharing may well be required. This'll hopefully recapture some of the magic of the Monglaning this year, but all cars will have the option of having their diffs topped up with oil using a map of Innsbruck to catch any drips. Probably to take place on the Sunday.

2) A road run down the coast to the Eternal Flame Museum, where 1980s pop group The Bangles are being held in long-term storage. I'll see if we can get a group discount. www.internalfire.com It's quite a lengthy trek, so I need to consider when we do this. Probably Saturday. Never mind cms, AH'LL TELL 'IM!!!!

Is it over a sea? No! THEN IS NOT FAR!!!

I may be immune to long distance these days due to my megabusings but surely the point of a car based holiday, no matter how far, will entail some extra driving? Museum of Internal Fire does sound jolly. I'll be there.

Should be able to make this, used to live nearby and this is a nice drive from my parents place in Herefordshire. Unfortunately, I will be coming in something modern and luxurious, although I know a good friend with a 1987 Buick Park Avenue lying idle - that would be well worth resuscitating for this.

I spoke to Captain Flimble earlier on today Ã¢â‚¬â€œ the chap in the white V6 Calibra at Shitefest '13. He's going to try to get his garden ornament Lancia Beta HPE running for Shitefest '14...

So, with Phil's Y10 (possibly), my Maserati (possibly) and Capt. F's Beta HPE (possibly), does this bode well for an Italian-themed MerdaFestino 2014?

Possibilmente...

Well, I've currently got 2 road legal beta's, an HPE VX (as seen at Chumley this year) & a Spyder .... however god knows what the fleet will contain come next May.

Are bikers welcome? That weekend clashes with Claim_Jrs birthday but I might be able to make it over on two wheels.

We had a dose of Bikeshite this year, so I guess so. Are you coming on a Honda C90 with no lights?

Actually I might buy a 200 pound shitter the day before and just drive it up and see what happens. Sounds like an autoshite plan
