Didn't they do a Vauxhall Nova of some type which was a sport model or am I just making that up

Oh yeah and hallo again after about a year away

They did indeed,an thing with twin 40's but basic trim and steels with Astra Merit trims. Intended for rallying and that's what happened to most, any survivors are probably across the water.post-17414-0-41630800-1379018551_thumb.jpg

Apparently a Nova Swing is a science fiction novel

Something to do with a disturbance in the space time continuum - otherwise known as Vauxhall's design department

I had a Nova Swing for my first car. Never realised until recently they had different mirrors to the rest of the range

The German Polo Genesis was quite nice. It was a supercharged G40 with all the extras, so fog lamps and metallic paint basically. And leccy windows I think. One RHD model was built, the rest were LHD and given away in Germany in a competition run by the band.

The UK Genesis model was an entry level 1043cc jobbie with no extras, just some gaudy badges.

Here's a few but I think the mini had a different special edition on a weekly basis,

One of my favourites and probably one of the first to be called a special edition was the Zephyr Special, when I was a kid a mate of my dad had one and I thought it was the flashiest thing on 4 wheels. Wasn't quite so impressed when the wheezy old 2.5 auto had to be towed up a steep hill in Devon by my dad's Viscount. The Zephyr had a Sprite Muskateer Major on the back at the time.post-17414-0-26248600-1379019442_thumb.jpg

Thanks NorfolkNWeigh

Vauxhall Nova Sport

502 made

Twin 40 carbs, uprated suspension etc and nice graphic set on 3/4's

Homologation special

A guy at the bottom of our avenue had one. Ran it into the ground, let it rust and just generally abused it. My brother repeatedly tried to buy it off him to save it. Wouldn't sell. Rotted away, why the twat ruined it i'll never know

Ford were the godfathers of the special edition....They were quite fond of run-out specials to get rid of dying stock or make way for a new model.   I had a 2.3LX granny - sunny, lecky mirrors, halford special wheeltrims and a little "x" by the L badge, it was about GL spec I suppose.   Maybe it cost the original owner a bit less than a GL - by the time I got it all that was lost in the mists of time.   Others that spring to mind are Fiesta Sandpiper, Escort Linnet (and the now-desirable Harrier), Granada Consort (and the far nicer Sapphire), Cortina Calypso and Capri Cockface (OK I made up the last one..)

The ford Sierra 2000E was a plush special edition,

As was the Orion 1600E. Both had leather, top of the range sound system and all the goodies.

I sat in an Orion at a car show once, I was amused by the bum-squeaky noises the seats made. I was only 10 at the time though.

Polo Harlequin.

No different from the ordinary Polo in terms of spec, but this special edition is decent by means of being so balls to the wall stand out outstanding. None of this 'wheeltrims we usually reserve for the Zodiac' nonsense. I love them, despite not being bothered about Polos in the slightest.

Does the Scorpio Ultima count? Wasn't that a fancy one to shift the last few units?

And what about the Focus edge? If I remember right that was a run out model with a few goodies worth having.

Focus Edge mk1 was rubbish, effectively a Zetec with a spoiler, different alloys and no climate pack

I always thought it was "Sting"...but I googled it and you're right. I must be dilllyesxbxsic.

I believe both the Nova Sting and Swing existed.

Ps Nova Sport doesn't count as it was a limited edition, I'm talking special editions where anyone who wanted one could have one, just like the normal trim levels, unlimited number built.

I've just thought of the Mk1 Mondeo Ultima, not sure if it was a special edition or just the top spec model like it was on the Scorpio.

A car made by chaps for chaps, to be won in a competition judged by the greatest chap of all times.

Why was everything better and nicer in ye goode olde dayse?

Orion 1600Es had their interiors retrimmed by Tickford, whereas the Sierra 2000E had no such Tickford connection, AFAIK.

I always thought the Advantage editions of the Metro, Maestro and Montego were GR9, though I think they may have been mentioned in the Shite Special Editions thread:

The runout R8-shape 200 SEis were HOT as well. Added alloys and half leather recaros:

Earlier ones with the black bumpers didn't look quite as good, especially if they suffered OMGBumperFade, as below:

Now I come to think of it, I am not sure if these are decent or shite. Oh well.

In the early 1980s, FoMoCo came up with some pretty decent special editions in order to shift stock and create showroom traffic:

Escort Harrier

Escort Linnet

Escort Goldcrest

Cortina Carousel

Granada Topaz

Granada Talisman

Granada Consort

Capri Cabaret

Capri Calypso

Capri GT4

Fiesta Supersport

Fiesta Quartz

Fiesta Bravo

Fiesta Sandpiper

And many others, including some which have already been mentioned, which I have chosen not to duplicate :)

My sister had a Nova Swing 1.2. White with a dire looking brown interior.

It didn't half shift though!

Let's not forget mk4 escort sport, mk3 fiesta 1.6s and the Sierra laser

Mk1 Ford Fiesta Finesse.

A run out special with a poverty spec dash (that doesn't crack in the sun, but doesn't have a glove box lid) but otherwise has some rather fetching stripes, 2 speed heater fan, passenger side mirror, rear wash wipe, heated rear screen, reverse light, front seats with head rests, special trim on the front and rear seats and the door cards, FM radio cassette with stereo speakers, parcel shelf, boot carpet, cigarette lighter and 13" economy wheels.

In addition, the 1.1 model got an economy gearbox with high gearing in 3rd and 4th, an 'economy' weber carb and economy lights on the dash cluster which light up during inefficient driving.

Here is mine when I got it:

All those features make a surprisingly comfortable car to travel long distances in at speed without straining the engine.

Another superb special edition. The Renault Clio 182 Trophy. I know this isn't technically shite but this was a superb car.

_Renault_182_Trophy4a1037c400afd.jpg

A new colour and 'Trophy' graphics, special Bilstein suspension, with very light alloy wheels, Recaro bucket seats and a Clio V6 rear spoiler.

Additionally it came with an alcantara interior and air con but could still beat a BMW M6 or a Ferrari 360 around a twisty wet track.

My mate has a Zafira "Excite" that is the same as your Father in Laws

Nissan made a Primera GT SE with piped leather bigger alloys, there was also the Primers GT LE with chromaflair paint and different bigger wheels.

Got those the wrong way around, mate.
