The Calibra is my HOT TIP for classic car status soon.  So it'll probably be the automotive equivalent of straight-to-video

Looks nice, but I'm not in the market for one right now.  Good luck with the sale

It really is a cracking motor, If I had the space and needed another car I'd buy it myself. I've always loved the Shape of them

Oh yes, no doubt about it.

My early V6 has been getting stared at as a novelty for a couple of years now. I almost never see another one on the road.

I might have a mate who would possibly interested. I'll try and get hold of him.

What's the location of the poxhall in pogweasle pink?

The oil pressure valve is leaking because it's blocked I think? If you unscrew it (it's a large allen thingy fitment) and clean it out, it should be OK.

They have all but disappeared now. :(

i wanted one of these after the cavalier... went to buy one couldnt afford decent one, test drove an n reg vectra laughed, and purchased a mondeo

I do like Calibra's - a lovely shape. Hate ecotec engines though..

Posted

Not sure why... in my experience (5 years and about 40,000 miles with a '94 Cav SRi) the Vaux 2.0 Ecotec is not a bad engine.

Posted

I like these, although preferably in 2.0 8 valve unburstable flavour rather than a sleaze o tec.

That said, this looks good for the money. Decent motor for someone.

Had a low mileage, one owner (Wife's Uncle) 94 Calibra for about 3 years and had about 5 different sensors replaced in that time. One packed up after less than 2 weeks! I did master the art of switching off in 5th and then bumping it to get the engine light off though.

Did have a 96 Vectra with a 1.8 ecotec in it for a couple of years that was o.k though...maybe I was just unlucky but most folk say the same about that particular engine.

Probably just unlucky with that particular car as it also went through front tyres like they were going out of fashion even with new front wishbones. The fuel pipes perished when it was 6 years old...  The car looked great but was really full of gremlins.

Yeah, maybe just bad luck.

In terms of sensors, my 2.0 Ecotec (X20XEV) had just one crank position sensor in the five years I owned it. And I bought it with that needing doing.

It also had a head gasket at around 90,000 (they do sometimes fail between 90,000 and 110,000 miles - suspected material defect in the original GM gaskets) and a replacement exhaust manifold, which are prone to cracking.

Other than that it was a little gem - loads of torque, and it made a nice burble in 2nd gear. I got an indicated 138 mph out of that Cav too, loaded up to the roof with all my gubbins from living over in France for a year, so it wasn't short of power! People say the X20XEV isn't as good as the C20XE it replaced, probably because if had 12 fewer bhp... but the C20XE had its faults as well.

Thanks for puttin this on me owd tayter!

Yeah the 2.0 ecoshite engine isnt the most desireable of the GM range, but it still works. Im 99% certain that the head gasket has been done along with a head rebuild not too long ago.... so theres no issues there.....we think!

If I get chance this week, I'll whip the oil pressure switch out and see whats going on with the oil leak, my brother is too lazy to do it himself.... sits in that bloomin' chair all day....

If it doesnt sell, the leather seats are going straight in my manta!

Funny you say that, we sold it to an old neighbour in 2003 and when I saw him a couple of years ago he said he had to scrap it as the engine went on it. It only had 60k on the clock when we sold it and they only used it occasionally so likely it was the headgasket on that. Shame he scrapped it, he bought another in much poorer condition and I asked him why he didn't swap the engine? He said he couldn't be bothered!

The 2.0 could haul a bloody big barge Omega along at a fair rate of knots, so they're not that bad compared to an XE for example.

Oddly enough my daughter reminded me (again) today that the Calibra I had was her favourite car of the lot.

I'd like one in that metallic green (Rio Verde?) with cream leather.. :)

You know, I never liked that colour, or the metallic gold. It'd really have to be a pre-facelift, early one on white or one of those snazzy yellow ones for me.

I have a friend in Holland with a V6 one in that colour... Its good for roughly 200 horses and goes like the clappers!! I was tempted to buy it but I steer well away from GREEN cars! (its a superstition thing!)

It's had an engine transplant then (= cheapest way of getting extra POWAH)... the 2.5 V6 has about 167 bhp.

I've got a 208 bhp 3.0 V6 out of an Omega waiting to go in mine, and GDHaydock of this parish already has a 3.0 V6 in his Cally.

I think its just shy of 200, not sure on the actual figure or what mod there are (definately a remapped ecu)

Has he painted the cam covers Green, I've heard colour coding them "givez u moar bhps"

Or does this only work on pogweasel Chav tastic hatchbacks and not cars with decent engines lol

XEV is an ace engine all things considered. No matter how much weight was in my late Vectra it just kept up with its onslaught. I'd love another car with this engine. Going to link this to a mate on FB.
