Citroen C6 Keeping up the family reputation

I was paying a visit to the local shite auction this evening and spotted this C6 lurking in the corner.

Looks good eh? You see that paper sellotaped to the dashboard and steering wheel? It says "drive slowly no brakes!". Good to see the new Citroens keeping up the family reputation for spunking out their LHM. No idea what it went for but the estimate was 4 grand.

It reminded me of that one that was on ebay a year or so back that showed something like 2000 fault codes. I may be would be tempted for a grand and I'd just sit in the back seat drinking tins of tenants lager. I really love these but they're solid gold future shite.

A four large estimate for that seems mental to me. I have absolutely no idea what they cost or are worth, but if that was in top notch condition at a car dealers with a decent warranty included I wouldn't want to pay more than about £2500.

I'd love one, but I am nowhere near brave enough.

Like most round here, when they get down to a grand and most of the faults have been fixed I'll be interested.

I take by the fact the warning was taped on in multiple places that someone had already shat a brick moving it. I'm sure Kinkersaab bought a working one for 4 grand last year.

I've no idea what a sensible value would but I think any more than 2 grand and you'd be shitting buttons.

I'm actually amazed they even sold any of these new, when I worked for 1 of Arnie Clarks Citroen dealerships for almost 3 years we never sold a single 1, I think every dealer was forced to take a demo, ours sat in the showroom for months then got punted out the back then back in the showroom then eventually Citroens logistics firm came and took it away, then another appeared, same thing again, I think they were passing them round the dealers as sometimes ones would appear with other dealers stickers in the windows and valeted, dewaxed and all the transportation film etc removed, no idea why anyone would though, something like £36K list for a specced up one, when you could have a Merc/BM/Jag for similar money, its a bit different to £20K for a C5 Exclusive as a change from the sea of dull Mundaneos and Insignias.

The DS range of classier Citroens aimed for a more upmarket feel is definitely a better idea at pushing the brand upmarket than trying to smash the luxury car market which the Germans plus Jag have sewn up. The C6 was living in the past, the days of big barges from volume brands like the Granada, Carlton, Omega, XM, Safrane, 605, 607, etc are gone.

I'd love one but it'd have to be stupid cheap, currently showing no fault codes and have some kind of brakes

I remember lying online to Citroen about wanting a test drive so I could get some launch bumph for one of these. It's still a gorgeous object to behold and hasn't aged at all IMHO.

Four large for one with no brakes though? They can bloody well keep it. When these get to about a grand... Maybe...

Not yet driven one, but have been chauffeured in one. They're remarkable. But I think they use LHS these days - a slightly different fluid to piss out everywhere. Occasionally, the front struts punch their way through the bonnet too. I'd love one.

I had a ride in the back of one as well. Agree with DW entirely - really nice. This one was a 2+2 with individual rear seats. I recall seeing a red flashing warning light on the little dash in front of the driver, but it may have been a seat-belt thing. Bet it wasn't though...

These will be more sought after than the DS in a few years . Buy one or two now and wait for the bonanza !

I think the brakes on these will be conventional and not linked to the steering/suspension at all, that's certainly the case with the C5. I believe MENCAP didn't like the idea of a single fluid leak potentially taking out all three systems. The C5 uses LDS for the steering and suspension, the reservour is shared but the systems are independent- the steering uses a conventional pump and the suspension uses an electric pump.

In a former life I did bits of writing about cars for the local rag. I had the pleasure of the C6 on a number of occasions, it was a fantastic car to drive. I remember getting a bollocking from the head of their PR department when I suggested in the write up that residual values may be an issue...

Oh yes. PR folk don't like honesty ruining a good review!

These do have the electric pump for the suspension, so it self-levels as soon as you clamber aboard, whether the engine is running or not. I imagine dogging could flatten your battery.

Readers of this forum tend to get trouser excitement when a Tagora appears, mainly due to it being French, unloved and rare. The C6 is squarely in this territory with similar production numbers to the Tagora although spread over almost 3 times as long. If it wasn't so big I'd quite like to try one.

Remember, the C6 is the new Tagora !

It's staggeringly ugly and misproportioned from the front quarter view.

So I'm in.

But with a bit of a nip and tuck...

Like most citroens, interesting to look at. Would hate to live with that on a day today basis though, it'd bankrupt me with things going wrong I bet.

EFA. Citroens, and indeed most other French shite, leave me as cold as a dead nun's clunge.

I saw ONE of these on my recent 1000 mile trek acro' France. It was the only car I had a good look at though, it's really stunning in the flesh. It was parked in the valet spot outside the five-star Shangri-La Hotel in Paris.

Sat in one of these and gave it a good look over, at the Club event in May which I took the XM along to try and flog it

Blue, dizzled 6 speeder auto, cream leather; was smitten.   Said he was using it on the company books, smoking it county to county, regular trips from Preston to Peterborough and back same day.  Mileage was at 80k.  He said it had been pretty much trouble free.  Could be relative to the XM he chopped against it maybe, and didn't ask how many trips were on the back of RAC finest uplifters, but hey.

Didn't take the guy's number though, which has daft as the XM sold next day

Want.

I did indeed have the pleasure of owning, running for 10k and selling on without loss one of these beauty's, do I want another ? Oh yes, should I avian other, oh no, looked great, was comfy but shit build and too much French electrickery meant I was constantly waiting for something else to break, that tainted the whole owning experience for me. Glad I had one though.
