Sold my Harley 1200 Sportster today to a nice bloke from Derbyshire. I've owned  it for exactly a year, and done less than 700 miles on it. Hate it really hurts my back after an hour in the saddle.

It was a itch I had to own a Harley. Next time I'll just let a bike itch, itch.

And another plus is that another V-twin that i really like will be replacing it.

Went on holiday last week to IOW.....Thought these pics might interest those of a certain age.   Bunch of middle aged blokes were tazzing these around the Island and looked like they were having, quite frankly, a bloody hoot.    Would have swapped a go on the Head Girl for one of these at sixteen (not that such a choice was ever mine to make, of course)

Project nearly done ready for my test next month8c4338467f87db2c94d431d7584edd27.jpg

thats not the black one missing wheels that was on here???

Buying back the SV 650 I sold a few months ago. Regretted selling it the second I dropped it off. I always had them marked down as a "girls bike". Handles brilliantly, loads of grunt and sounds great.

Will probably sell my dependable CBR600 now-rarely use it as its not a v-twin or a single.

The FT500 is a single, Mark. Are you thinking of the VT500?

I had an sv for 5 years from new . Many mods on suspension and brakes and it was a awesome bike . Did 5/6 track days on it , toured , commuted the lot and it was perfect .

Bigger isn't always beautiful.

The wheelless bandit was mine, it's still gently festering in my garage waiting for it's turn to get fixed & sold.

It's got wheels now though.

Please fix it and sell for much cheapness to me before Winter....

It's a deal, and Winter seems a reasonable target knowing me.

There's not actually much to do to it, drill out the old fuel cap, fit some fuel lines, fire it up and unstick the front brakes.

However cars are getting in the way. Alfa retest by Friday, wife's car is due end of July and I've got to prep the Berlingo for a 1000 mile holiday in August.

So yeah, winter, maybe autumn.

Winter fine. Possible change of work location about winter time as well means 2 wheels more eagerly wanted for use then too as parking will be even more at a premium as three pathology directorates try and cram into one small portacabin* on an old bomb site near the M6

*may be a slight exaggeration

not dave quick then :D

Right then... my usually reliable spare battery is flat, so it's getting a quick charge up. The tank is bone dry (yeah, I know I should clean the carb, but...) so I'm going to wang in a litre of unleaded and see if it'll start:

Half a pre-sucked opal fruit on it exploderating after 30+secs of cranking.

Sadly not.

Last year I finally finished university and got a real grown up job.

Gone is skipping lectures for an all day fixing sesh, to be replaced with approx 2 x 2 hour fixings per week.

Money's better though.

Tis a Honda - will run & ride fine with new pez and lekky.

20 secs cranking - first run splutter & stall

Then will run fine thereafter.

Total anti-climax, I'm afraid, chaps :(

Fuel, full battery, ignition on... nothing. No lights on the panel, nowt.

Given that this is a Honda built by Italians I shall be investigating the wiring next. We're not dead yet :)

Still think the original Mk1 Bandit looks good, had a 600 like this for four years and a 1200 for five.

Is that an OE exhaust system? I'd be bloody impressed if it is - they mostly died within the first five years, my B6 one snapped at the collector when about four years old!

Yip still original all I did was cut the link pipe for the micron to fit and a dousing of harpic to make them shiny again

I'll be fitting a gsxr 750 engine in the winter once I've passed my test and have a complete rear end off a 12 waiting on my lazy self to fit and if I pass next month you know that's shelved till winter too

Moar stupider n00b question: What's a sensible budget for gear (helmet and clothing)? Assuming you're riding regularly, year-round on the road. One bike forum reckoned about a grand minimum, but I'm hoping they were just posers...  I'm figuring that a DAS and a battered old 600 together might come in at £1.5k, any more ahead of the decimal point and I'll sack the whole idea off.
