Stupid thing:

Have put down a deposit on this heap sight unseen. Looks like it may be an ex-track bike, hasn't been MOT'd since before computerised MOTs, but the price is right.

I bought a similar shit looking CBR for £250 a few years ago, as it ran well but looked awful. I stitched all the cracked panels together with cable ties, missing screws holding the fairing pieces together were temporarily replaced with cable ties before taking it to my mates place for an mot. They pissed tgemselves laughing at the state of it. I had the last laugh though as they couldnt find anything to fail it on, and they tried hard to do so.

Agreed - I have three (Guzzi 1200 Sport, KTM RC8 and a H*rley 1200 Sportster) and all are great things, and all so very different from each other. Whats not to like? And this post has just made me realise i now have only one in line four now (my ratty but ultra reliable CBR600).

The Morini 350 Strada what I have done buyaging upon is a 1982 model, and so (allegedly) has fewer of the snags of the earlier models (allegedly).   It also has a disc brake and an electric starter, which is good because I am a wimpy kicker.

Excellent choice - I've had both a 3 1/2  Strada and a Kanguro, neither had an electric starter but were dead easy to kick start. Which may be good news for you as the folk lore has it that the starter motors are more of an ornament than of actually being of practical use.

That's lovely. What make is the sidecar? The W124 looks good too!

I have only ridden (tried to ride?) one outfit before in about 1978. It was a Guzzi California with leading link forks and a Hedingham sidecar (it was their demo outfit). I managed all of about 200 yards before stopping and getting off. Never, ever forgotten the fear I felt in those 200 yards.

Took a mate a run in the sidecar. After a few miles I stopped and ask if he was ok. He asked "what speed were we doing?" When I said 55/60mph his reply was "dont ever go that fast again!"

The blue 1980 Yamaha RD125 DX that I bought turned out to be a dog, and the sale advert a bunch of fibs.  I have rejected the bike (yay Brit Sale of Goods Act, and yay EU Consumer rules).  I had to write one moderately firm and slightly lawyerish email to the (trade) seller, after he tried to give me some flim flam.  But the email has worked, and the seller is coming to collect the bike and refund the purchase price.  It is to be replaced by a better one, also from 1980 but white and red, bought from a chatty surfer dude in Falmouth for two bags.  It's arriving next week.

I tried a Wasp MX sidecar at a race meeting in around 1985. Not like a car, not like a bike, I did not like!

Would love to get another big 2T outfit to do Weston beach race on, or just be generally antisocial.

My old KTM 495 enduro outfit had done it a couple of times, couldn't imagine holding that flat out down the straight, we bottled out at 70+ on a private road.

I had a Z440 with a Squire sidecar for a year or so while I was at Uni. I thought it was great, and the only reason I gave it up was that the bike had absolutely no chance of passing another MOT without having far too much money spent on it.

I suspect that the reason I got on with it so well was that I'd only been riding six months or so when I got it, and consequently had little or no skills to un-learn!

The only device I've ever ridden that inspired real fear was a 1965 Vespa Sprint; it handled like a wheelbarrow with a flat tyre. What with that and the shitty brakes, non-existent lights and a gazillion false neutrals, the thing was a death trap.

My brother had a WASP motocross outfit that he fitted a GS750 engine into. He got it registered for the road (so easy in the late 80's) which looked and sounded fantastic. He sold it after about 8 months and more than a dozen rear tyres) but it's not been seen since.

He also had a CB200 with a small platform attached to that shook like a dog drying it's self at anything over 5mph. Terrifying.

I had my first experience passengering a trials outfit on the road. 30 seconds instruction then off down to the practise area probably hitting 35mph max.

Utterly friggin terrifying.

Anybody selling one?

Can you imagine the bottle it takes to throw one if the classic outfits fitted with a 750/ 850 Norton lump into the air over a tabletop?
