If it's a good runner, you should get around £1500 for that.

Assuming you're able to get a V5 for it.

Really? I disagree, I wouldn't pay more than £650 if it had a V5, but I'm no expert in that type of bike, (I have owned about 80 others though ;) ) I can't imagine it being worth £1500 any day of the week.

It's currently for off road use only with no plate or v5.

Any idea what I should be asking if I decide to sell?

First thing I'd do is run a check on the frame number to see if its stolen or not.

What's it worth? eBay can tell you that.

£200 as  it is or £218 with a new unfitted rear tyre.

I love the photo album, but on a point of accuracy, it wasn't stolen/recovered - it just looks like it was. All that damage was wrought by the previous owner :)

That XT350, first thing to do is a trade HPI on the frame number to get the reg and make sure it's not an outstanding stolen.

Without a logbook I would say someone down here might go to £5/600 as a field bike, with a logbook and working lights and a vague chance it might get an mot £700 to £1000 depending on what it's actually like.

If it's an import there's a slight chance it may be restricted, the carb rubber on one side has a smaller diameter inlet than it needs - open it out. It's probably had new ones by now anyway as they tended to come unbonded.

This. Trade HPI and take it from there. I think even £5/600 is on the high side to be honest. It's a field bike and  EVERYTHING on a field bike is either broken, missing, worn out or fucked in some way. An XT350 isn't old/desirable/rare enough to bother restoring IMHO.

It's at times like this I wonder why I sold this for £250.

MInd you I put a bit of effort into it and it was just taking up space in the shed.

I detested the ridiculous kickstart on the bloody thing to be honest but it would do an indicated 70km/h down a bit of hill easily enough.

It was actually electric start but the young lad I bought it off in Berwick upon Tweed had removed the starter bendix (his mates probably told him it made it go faster!)

Was quite a good buy for £100 with new top end rebuild, brand new exhaust and a few other odds an ends. I think the very recent receipts totalled around £250!

Just needed a bit of fettling and a carb clean at the end of the day.

A Yamaha XT350

It was on Gumtree for £500. No V5 put me off as I was going to put it on the road.

Is that why you wanted to swap a polo estate for it?

A week immersed in diesel and the Caren's piston still wouldn't budge. Given that the barrel couldn't be re-used, I decided to employ unreasonable force instead:

Bastard's out now!

Now go and grind off the mushroom on the end of that punch / drift/ chisel before you loose an eye !

Wouldn't a wooden drift down the barrel have shifted it with a big hammer?

It didn't, no. Not even my very best hammers (and worst language) would budge it. It was scrap anyway - several of the fins and most of the exhaust port had rotted off - so no loss.

I picked up another complete engine at the weekend, so progress on this beast may be apparent more quickly than I first thought!

Boring news: Missed a scooter run Sunday as was running late doing a job for someone, so just went for a blast (about 25 miles or something) on my Jack, and enjoyed a proper 'ride it like you stole it' type blast. I overtook some spunktrumpet in a very flash Merc who was possibly upset by this as a few miles later he overtook doing about 197mph down some back roads.

The swop offer was made before I found out there was no V5. So decided to keep the Polo....failed its MOT today.

Of interest to some on here is the court judgement on the Scomadi/ RoyAlloy scooter production issues:

http://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/format.cgi?doc=/ew/cases/EWHC/IPEC/2017/2658.html&query=(Scomadi)

The upshot is that RoyAlloy get free reign on two of their "designs" but not a third - so expect metal boddied Lambretta style scoots sometime in the next year

It also looks like RoyAlloy will be allowed to produce a 300cc piaggio engined version.

Bloody ebay sellers being economical with the truth. I like the look of the Peugeot Elyseo and found one cheap in Bristol. Listed as a non runner but engine turns over ok. I picked it up at the weekend and had a look today. Once I could get some jump leads on it I found that yes it turns over but no compression at all. As I collected it from a bike dealer you would of thought he might of noticed that and mentioned it. I whipped the head and barrel off and things aren't good. It has dropped a valve then lunched the piston, taken a chunk out of the barrel and generally fucked it all up. What I will do with it now I don't know, either break it or find a replacement engine.

Well I decided it is too good to scrap and have bought a secondhand engine for nearly twice what I paid for the bike. I hope this was a good idea

Sold it for £600 tonight so done not to bad, certainly more than I was going to get for my knackered ranger.

You've done alright there then I guess. The way things are with motorcycle theft I wouldn't recommend buying anything off road style without doing an HPI on the frame number though, too much chance of it coming back on you when the next buyer gets stopped riding it down the road and it turns out to be an outstanding stolen.

Shite moped news: successfully rode to work and back.

85d0b49488cd44b6de401a09b95c3910.jpg

Speeds achieved:

Downhill 45mph

Uphill 20mph

On the flat 40mph, eventually.

I just don't think they're designed to haul a large man up hills.

Have put it up for sale elsewhere, £200 to a shitter if there are any masochists or owners of 16 year olds out there.

40 on the flat is way better than I thought you'd get from that! I doubt it'd manage that with me on board.

But, yeah, I like to have at least 90cc of RAW POWAH on tap for hacking duties.

I am a VERY large man and get 20 uphill on mine without issue.

Im also tempted by that sale offer even though I have utterly no need for another 50cc bike.

I'll be honest, the 40mph was achieved on a slight down hill.

However, coming back home along the same road (now fractionally uphill) I OVERTOOK ANOTHER MOPED, a 14 plate Korean looking something which must have actually been restricted.

During the overtake manoeuvre 32mph was indicated, more amazingly I managed to resist doing any celebratory fist waving etc.

I'm just imaging the 1/2mile queue of cars behind you at that point.
