Yeah.

Well, I iz down with da kidz innit.

Im using the ped at the mo to undertake my latest project whim - Im trying to photograph every post box in the PR postcode area - given that there are about 700 this is no mean feat and I have 74 in the PR1 area to photograph yet.

Tother night I a gaggle of kids rushed over as I was taking this photo of a GR box ( Lion Foundry)

"Is that your bike mistah? Are you selling it mistah?"

I have a pair of fabulous highly polished (and about a quarter inch thick!) side panels for that bikes, complete with 750 badges (stickers) yours for a moderate price (read: as much as I can scrounge out of you!). I even have a picture of them n a bike somewhere, been lugging them around in a box for years!

Hmm, I need to get rid of that horrible electrics box it's got...

I'm not sure what I want to do there though, but I have been thinking of something hidden behind standard side panels. Got any pics/price in mind?

Here's my recently aquired NC700X:

Deeply impressed with it. 80mpg (real and measured over last 650miles). Fitted a screen topper, chain oiler [loobman freebie] and some lower crash bungs.

lovely pseudo v-twin thrum [crossplane firing order] - very torquey, decent rubber and suspenders and higly practical. Work is a 45mile round trip, this thing handles it with consumate ease and is less frenetic than my other bikes.

I need to have a rummage with the moped of doom - a couple of times its cut out when bumping off kerbs and the starting issue isnt the battery its the safety switch that means it wont start unless a brake lever is depressed.  I want to bypass this so I'll have to find a wiring diagram. May bypass the ignition switch too and put a hidden ( under the seat) switch.

I wired this Bonnie from scratch about nine years ago, but the electrics box doesn't match the shape of the frame & is a nasty badly brazed thing. I plan to rip it all off & do it again to a better looking solution as well as moving coils back to where they should be.

Sticking with points though, they work & never give problems unlike the aftermarket Boyer breakdown ignition systems everyone raves about. I had three of them in 6k miles & they just keep packing up.

I took a little spin round the Norfolk coast. 240 miles, bit chilly but a lovely day. post-20106-15104191536024.jpgpost-20106-15104191807419.jpgpost-20106-15104192017823.jpgpost-20106-15104192211723.jpg

I posted on a Honda twin forum..

“Looks like the wiring harness is missing from the change switch. These are very hard to find but there are ways around it. I would remove the change switch, located on the right side case under the right carb, and see if it works. You can check it with a ohm meter. If it works you can make a wiring harness for it. If it doesnt there is a sticky on this site that will explain your options.“

The cheapest working A on eBay is £2399, so aslong as I keep my costs down by several thousand pounds I’m in profit... sorry, I thought I was talking to my bank manager.

RIght then... this one is merely coming home, as opposed to joining the fleet. I had neither the time nor the skill to sort out the mechanical problems it had, so it's spent some time with a good mate of mine who has got it up and running. This has been such a long story (with many stops, starts, false dawns and long, long periods of procrastination) I'm going to make it a thread of its own at some point.

And then there was a stop off at Billy's on the way home to collect this:

And, no, I haven't attempted to ride it yet!

Vespa looks nice, is it a VNA or something? For sells?

It's a 1959 152L2, built by Douglas. Will post more about it soon!

FFS!

Went out as it was sunny, got THREE punctures in the rear wheel at once so I got to sit in a shitty bit of Barnsley to await recovery for two hours.

Get it home & the spindle won't slide out so I tap it with a 1/2" extension as I often need too. Except this time the extension disappears in the end of the spindle & jams in. Slip a rod in t'other end to knock it out & that jams in too & snaps off flush with the end of the spindle.

FFS! I've left it as I was ready to smash the shit out of it with hammers & until there was no bike left.

Anyone know if I cut the extension bar are they hard to drill as that's the only way I can think of saving the spindle.

This is the only pic I have of them, they really are very VERY substantial and in lovely condition. What you reckon?

That's a great looking bike, but I'll have to say no. Too brash for me, I'm not a fan of masses of chrome tbh.

Posted

Can you drive another rod in on top of the other to dislodge the extention ?

I don't have such a thing so gave up thinking that way. It may work though.

I'll ask the neighbours who build bikes for a living tomorrow, I'm just too pissed off with it going out of it's way to ruin a relaxing run out to find sunday dinner.

Damn and blast... there I was thinking I could get rid of some old tat... I did not expect discernment and taste on here! :) Why do you think I took them off? I hated them as well! :)

What about mole grips onto the extension then twat them with a hammer to extract it - you might need some other extensions through the wheel if space is tight.

I think extension bars are quite hard but I have bent them using slightly excessive pressure - they don't shatter or crack like sockets so would probably cut if the worse comes to the worse.

Posted

No luck with mole grips, I tried all that. Spindles are £102 new! so the extension will get cut if I need too.

I should have stayed home & took my Bonnie apart, but I wanted one last sunny day on the bike this year. I'd forgot how jap crap turns kamikaze and makes sure everything that can go wrong does go wrong.

Posted

What, one of those things Hairnet reckons no-one has?

you know what, on paper it seems like an underpowered bike. on the road it makes tons of sense. it actually feels nice at 70-80mph unlike a lot of jap bikes that are doing silly revs at that speed. I also like that it doesnt make me ride like an arse.

The NC forum seems quite busy and i see quite a few nc700 and nc750 s on my commute.

How about attaching a slide hammer to the end of the extention?

Only one I have is a bearing extractor & won't grip enough within the 1/2" drive. I've got no way to attach it properly to the extension.
