For sale locally. 90k off road a few years. Good order, in need of fuel pump and.....?

What's it worth?

I was looking at these a while ago, price depends on condition and what engine it's got. I've seen the 2.8's as low as £2k, but also up to £4-5k ... I was advised not to buy one as it would try to kill me :(

Someone who knows what they are talking about will probably be along in a minute but I would hazard a guess that there will be build quality problems maybe around the door hinges and sundry electrical problems usually diagnosed as bad earths

Posted

Do these suffer from chassis rot like the later ones? (I haven't a clue what I'm talking about, I just saw something about it on Wheeler Dealers recently  )

They are a awesome looking car!

Indeed, all that I can cope with, ESP as it will end up in my shed covered in dust most of the time, what I don't want is for it be be worth less than I pay for it. It is from what I can see a very good one, needs a fuel pump so doesn't run though. Has belonged to an old guy for a long long time. It's a 2.9 and a figure of £2000 has been mentioned.

I'd had thought for £2000 you'd be biting it arm off, I don't know the values but that sounds very good to me.

I'd tend to agree with Trigbert - a fuel pump for a Cologne is hardly likely to break the bank, and an S2 in half decent nick has got to be worth £2K even as a non-runner.

Posted

Doesn't sound outrageously cheap, but does seem value. I think these are starting to find their feet now. Looks like the chassis has had some proper paint thrown at it rather than the crappy poly coating, which just cracks and rots the chassis out.

Posted

I think the chassis and damage to the fibre glass shell is the things to watch out for. If the engines mainLy Capri then what could possibly go wrong ?* Id try to chip them down if it's a non runner though. You could always stick some fuel / Kwik start down the carb to at least see if it'll fire up and sounds okay.

'tis mine! will drag it home on a rope tomorrow and report on my findings......

Well done Sir, looks a bargain for £2k, better in every way than the Sherpa cabrio you'd struggle to buy for that money. 8)

So, dragged it back on a rope today. Lobbed a battery in, and it turned over, wouldn't start as expected, fiddled with a few wires and relays etc, tried again, still nothing....... Lobbed a couple of gallons of petrol in, and whoosh, off she went. ;)

I then manage to flood it and soak the plugs. Have left them out over night and will try again tomorrow with more success.

Especially as the air filter box is empty of about 2kgs of nuts left there by a squirrel or similar.

I gave it a wee polish, quite happy all in all.

That looks like £2k very well spent to me.

does it have power steering?????

if so, check the system carefully for leaks

2K seems okay for it, but it is an early one, and was probably a 2.8 originally

Posted

What that REALLY needs is a BOB 24V Cosworth........ might make it boogie on quite well. Sideways/backwards.

Posted

Ah, it is a 2.8, seems I was mis sold it. And, no power steering. Not that it's heavy.

manual steering much better :D

2.8i is a smooth engine, and less electronica than the 2.9

i assume its a 5-speed manual????

Posted

Yeah indeed it is. Looking forward to giving it a thrash tomorrow.

That's probably about the greatest way ever of spending two large. Superb stuff.

That does look very nice ... Can I get dibs when you decide to sell it ;)

That looks lovely, I especially love TVR interiors since they seem to make the best of pretty average UK sourced kit car level stuff at the time and arrange it all fancy in leather rather than on a sheet of old checkerplate, but they manage to make it look quite futuristic!

I'd pretty much expect most of the stuff to be buggered or falling off after 5 years! That said I can't see owt dangling off on yours, you must have a goodun

Remember - it was nailed together in Bispham....

And will have been parked here for several months

First journey for 6 yrs or so. Got me home and if it gets me to work tomorrow I will throw it in for an mot.....

Did I like it? Not a lot........ Defo needs tracking done and seemed a little lumpy as well as been the most thrown together thing I have ever bought. All part of the appeal I'm told......... Looks great though.

TVR were one of my old clients back in the mid 90s and their man told me to avoid the S1 and get an S2, he refused to tell me why but was quite insistant that the S1 was to be avoided.

We really need to have a shiters get together at the TVR Diner which is part of the old factory on Bristol Ave.

It’s British and made in a glorified shed. So it depends on how you classify something as “good†
