I've got a proper soft spot for the 90s BTCC, I guess mainly because it didn't take a massive leap of imagination to go from the cars that were "jostling" (AKA ramming) for position on the track, to the ones in Safeway's carpark. A bit lower, some Compomotive five-spokes and a lairy paintjob. Sorted.

As I now own a Cavalier, better put up some of the cars that I liked!

Yeah, I remember those days fondly too! Would have loved to see the Volvo estates live, but just on TV they were awesome. Going to have to steal that 406 pic, I don't even remember them running!

Aye, I don't think they had many high finishes though so didn't get as much airtime as the 850/Laguna/Mondeo/Carina/Cavalier brigade.

Oh dear, going to have to steal that too! It's even nearly my colour!

Don't think the 406 or 405s ever won, sure they got a couple of 2nd places though?

Posted

406 completely failed to register with me at the time, but I do remember the 405s. I think they did fairly well most of the time without making much dent in the championship tables.

80s and 90s touring cars will have a special place. a few of my favourites have already been put up but heres a couple more

BTCC was one of the first games I had on my first playstation. I was a Ford chap and so consequently always drove the Mondeo, but the Laguna was annoyingly always the best car on the game. Many lost hours racing around Snetterton in thunder and lightning.

Additionally, back when I had a Top Gear subscription many, many years ago, I entered a Drivers Club competition to win a Tamiya 1/10 Mondeo.

I didn't win. They're dead to me now.

“ 'I’m going for first!’ says John Clelandâ€Â

And I’m pretty sure the 406 was the only car from the super touring era to never win a race-not even with Tim Harvey driving.

Xedos 9 managed that too, as did the Sierra. Yes, the Sierra - with the rear-mounted gearbox...

Ah, Patrick Watts. Sponsored by Autoshite... 8)

You used it on a banger rally? I retract my previous statement. ;-).

How much did it cost to give it the treatment then?

Posted

I wanted to do that with my 740 :D but never had the cash spare :( as usual!

It was surprisingly cheap actually; cost us a tin of dark blue gloss, a tin of white gloss, and £50 for the stickers.

Anyway, thread hijacked well and truly. Have this:
