I still don't understand what a VW Gol is doing in Morocco. Did they sell them in Northern Africa?

Out on the dog walk this morning and spotted this at the end of a block of garages. There was no surreptitiously walking past this one, I had to make the detour.

Pleased to see the BD02 reg as my old one was BD02 HWS. Now mine was an ex West Mids ambulance and was registered from the factory. And sure enough...

A few more from today. The 309 originally came from Germany.

You might have noticed the distinct lack of Mercedes W123 used by cab drivers here. Ive hardly seen any at all. Turns out the government started a program in 2014 offering taxi drivers a 6.5k £ cash incentive towards a new Dacia to replace their aging diesel Mercs. They were aiming to replace every single one of them by 2022, which means I sadly came here just late enough to witness their complete extinction in Morocco. This also explains why I see dacias absolutely everywhere, they even built the things here. It does make sense from an air pollution standpoint. It's just sad to see one of the hallmarks of quality engineering getting replaced by completely disposable budget cars now. Just makes the street scenes feel that little less special.

Further to the "horrors you see on the road where there are no MOTs" comment I made a few days back, this bounced and flexed its way into this parking space as we drove past yesterday.

Yes, the bodywork does appear to be holding the chassis together.

Last full day for us in Marrakesh, I think I'll miss all the old french tat once back home.😂

No clue what the last thing is. Looks like some cheapo electric/no-license required thing inspired by a low end Jeep.

It's a WALLYS IRIS - despite the challenging looks it's a "real" car.

Good lord...pass over the brain bleach... it's like some ungodly cross between a Trabant and a Bini with some Freelander and Pontiac Aztec cues thrown in for maximum styling dissonance.
