Lazy spotters thread

Recommended Posts

Unlike some of the more dedicated shite snappers out there, I can only sometimes be arsed to stop my car get out and take a photo of obscure bits of tat. Normally I just drive on thinking 'I should have taken a photo of that' and never see the car again.

Sometimes however, I do take photos but not enough to start my own spotted thread. Therefore I thought it might be helpful to start a thread for the lazier Autoshiters to keep the rest of the goons up to date with the shite on our roads.

This is in no way to take away attention from some of the other dedicated spotters threads but an opportunity for those of us who don't have enough photos to start our own. Either that or it will just drop off the page.

Here are some of my recent spots:

Real Ratluk Chevette. Look at that interior. Coathanger ariel too FTW.

IMAG0564_zpsb6be27c3.jpg

'Clarksoned' Reliant (or is it Reliant 'Clarksoned').

IMAG0547_zps07beb836.jpg

IMAG0486_zps740c3b48.jpg

I've got a few knocking around that I don't think I've posted here yet.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a B10, but this isn't one.

This Citroen DS was in a shed near the BMW. The fire was only last year :(

This is parked outside a great little motor museum. It was meant to be for kids to play in but it's far too unpleasant even for that.

I'm pretty sure this was the oldest car on Shetland by several decades. It's a brave man who drives up there in a 50 year old car that's famous for rust.

I happened to look out of the front door one evening and this was parked across the road. It was gone in the morning and I wondered if I had really seen it at all.

I can't work out what this is at all. Some kind of Vauxhall or maybe a Volvo 140?

This belonged to a woman in her 60s who bought it when it was already quite an old car.

And finally this. I was driving home from Ullapool when I spotted a gate with a "dangerous building" sign on it. I felt there had to be something interesting up the drive, and there was!

Great idea for a thread this, I often have to wait months and months until I accumulate enough shite to update to make it worthwhile updating my thread.

Gr57 thread, I too have bee trying to accumulate enough photos for a thread but never really got enough to make it worthwhile.

Here's my favourite:

5329610401_3e939a9d13_z.jpg

This is the driveway of a suitably abandoned looking house in an upmarket street near where I work, I often walk past when out for a lunchtime wander and muse over what the story with it is.

The Marina Coop is on a dateless plate which the DVLA are showing as still assigned to the car and last taxed in 1987. The Metro looks to be a VDP model with lovely brown leather and original dealer stickers in the windows. There's also what looks to be an A-series lump sitting in the drive half under a tarp behind the metro. Would love to know what's in the garage!

To add to the mystery I've on 2 or 3 occasions seen another early Metro (also gold) parked on the street outside but no signs of life in the house, and the boundary hedge is always immaculately trimmed while the rest of the garden is extremely over grown. Perhaps it's just a neighbour who doesn't want the place to look too scruffy but I'd love to think that there is actually some hermit living there, or perhaps a ghost!

[edit] that photo was taken last winter, I took a wander past again today and there would appear to be what looks like another metro behind that one under a green tarp which I don't recall being there before - the plot thickens...

This is interesting, the Marina looks very clean seeing as it was last on the road in 1987. Are you tempted to sneak a peak in the garage, a good chance there's an interesting old motor in there. Next to the green door (sings oh the green door) is that another garage with no door (or half a red one)? if not what is it? Keep us informed on this story, I love things like this.

Good thread, allow me to lower the standard a little. Walked past an old abandoned house near the sea a few days back which has a couple of decaying Scimitars hidden in the yard - backing on to public land was the remains of a collapsed shed. I peered through a hole in the wall and saw something so stuck my camera phone in and got this.

8f02c603-f24d-43b4-b4aa-ea52e47e919e_zps8d47aade.jpg

No idea what it is but it must have been there at least 20 years and looks 50's/60's ish. I like the fact it was probably driven in, parked up and just forgotten about one day - much like the Allegro estate that was dissolving by the yard entrance and was barely recognisable having been there since 1996. That was taken away a few months back, presumably in bits.

Looks like an Anglia 105E to me

Possibly, although it looks too big for that, I was thinking one of these:

P1030746.jpg

And yes, looking at the window line, I'm pretty sure, it did have the big stacked rear lights. Shame, not exactly a common sight now! Never seen such a rotten car still holding together, even the roof has gone.

It's like the bloody white, grey and yellow pimpernel, that Astra! My spot was a one-off appearance, and then it turns up elsewhere.

I like the Mk2 Astras, but not in Club form: I still shudder at the thought of valeting those bloody interiors.

:D Ah yes I see it now, sorry Barrett you were right first time! Now I see the resemblance. I thought it had rear doors but it doesn't, just dirt & debris. I did try to get look at the boot for badges but they've long since gone, as has most of the bottom 10 inches of tailgate.

This weapons grade shite incredibly was parked outside my work in edinburgh last night. Could've got a great pic of it. Typically my phone was flat. Gutted. Imagine my surprise when out with the mrs later to come across it again, this time with a charged phone, but as I was mobile only a particularly shit shot was possible.

What a spot. I have only ever seen 1 other red one on the road when it was driving down Bev Rd in 'Ull about 15 years ago. They have been my ultimate goal for car ownership since I was 8 years old (although if I had the money now I would probably go for a Gordon Keeble TBH). They are so amazingly vulgar and OTT its fucking ace.

I had good look at it when it was sat outside my work, they're properly ludicrous looking cars, and it makes you wonder what drugs the AM designers were taking when they thought it was a good idea. Still, you can't argue they dont have fantastic presence on the road. Literally everyone who walked past was stopping for a peer at it.

Now that I know its local, its top of my hitlist to get a decent snap of it should I see it again.

Apparently its a Daihatsu M20 with a fibreglass body made in Preston.

Its certainly shite been off the road since 04

Interesting, any more gen on that? I've certainly never heard of that contraption. Would be interesting to think it was lashed together by some out-of-work ex-Bond employees with GRP skillz. There must have been a huge amount of unemployed fibreglass wizards floating about Preston in the 1970s.
