Dollywobbler's Shite Snail Thread - Moar rust and Ami love

That's the Elan Valley, between Rhayader and Cwmystwyth. It's a spectacular place, even without the snow. Six-cylinder and his chums did attempt to drive that route the other week, but it shows why they didn't make it. Took ages for a digger to clear the route.

The Ami drives incredibly well, but then the bloke who owns it races 2CVs. It has a Weber carb, gas-flowed heads and some other tweaks. Goes like stink, sounds incredible. Hoping to do some video capture very soon...

I ran off looking for Ami 6s, but there seem to be a lot more Breaks and Ami 8s around. I really want that magnificent saloon shape!

I like the Ami, 'tis very hot. How though is that cool single spoke steering wheel mounted?

These old booted Amis are so amazingly ugly they've gone the whole way back round to being amazing looking things. WANT! 8)

Also that big fat chicken is making me hungry...

I want a 2cv now :(

Same! I've never really been that keen on the Ami, I've always thought they were a bit ugly if I'm honest. But that video has me wanting one of those as well now! Looks great fun 8)

Great sound & vid - I still feel nostalgic about the Breaks, even though I can only remember the GS we had...

Don't let your beard grow any longer or you'll get it tangled up in the steering wheel.

I assumed it was a fake beard worn to protect the guilty. Fine motoring and beardage, dollywobbler.

Excellent, that Ami looks a hoot to drive. The side profile looks a bit strange, the back almost looks as if it has a bit missing from it.

I can also confirm the Dolly's beard is impressive, at POL last year, some may have seen 'Jesus' (aka tha wobblah) being chauffeur driven in a G-reg Rover Sterling driven by a Biege sports jacket wearing BL enthusiast and sometime Yorkshireman 'Captain Slooooow', followed by a small round (then bearded too) chap in a Montego, oh, I was also hopping around due to a bust knee.

A 2CV is a nice car, but it's something of an oversized land yacht, don't you think?

It is perhaps the biggest microcar of all time. Most folk state that a microcar is less than 700cc.

The steering wheel is a proper oddity. Effectively, the steering column continues upwards, then curves to become the single spoke. To remove the steering wheel, the whole column must come out I think. Mk1 BX is the same, but you only need to remove half of the steering column.

Ami 6 Berline is definitely on my list, but you just can't find them anywhere.

There's not even that many on Leboncoin.

Their scarcity makes me want one more.

There are quite a few for sale on Leboncoin! Problem is, they aren't cheap. Estates are much cheaper. So much so that I'm think the extra practicality might well make up for the loss of that ridiculous rear window...

Extra bon! Replaced the knackered fuel line on Project 2CV today. Once I'd refitted the correct fuel pump (I had two knocking around and I fitted the wrong one) she ran nicely. Then that moment where you dip the clutch and wonder whether it'll release. It did! Nervously edged out of the garage, glad that the brakes provide just enough power to actually stop. Quick run back and forth up the driveway - it's awful! Lots of clonks and scrapes. Will need a complete brake overhaul and the wheels may be catching the kingpin housing due to rust. Pleasing though!

I actually drove it out of my garage earlier, and up and down the driveway. The brakes aren't too bad for seriously rusty items, though I suspect the rear wheel cylinders are seized solid. Some way from an MOT yet! Now it runs and drives though, I can remove it from the garage when necessary, which is very handy.
