KRAZY Argenta loan scheme plan

Yo, I don’t know if this idea is ridiculous or not, lets throw it out there and see where we get with it.

I’ve got this Argenta sat here doing nowt. It’s pretty scruffy looking TBH, but is tested till November and is fairly reliable believe it or not. After a very shaky start it settled down and I’ve done a few thousand miles in it without bother. I don’t particularly want to sell it as I’ll never spend the money on another one due to them no longer being available for £100, but also it’s a bit of a waste for it to just sit about doing nowt, which is likely what’ll happen cos I have no spare money to tax and insure a car just to take it to one show or whatever over the summer.

Does anyone want to borrow it for the summer to blast about in?

My idea is, you tax it for 6 months, take it away and give it back when the tax runs out. You can insure it on a classic policy for £100 or whatever and just use it as you see fit. If it needs any tinkering or maintenance in the meantime, you sort it, unless its something fairly serious like engine and gearbox exploding or whatever, in which case we’ll have to sort something out - in the worst case where I haven’t got any time or money to do owt with it, just cash the tax in and hand it back. Its pretty usable, drives well with PAS, will just about crack 30mpg if you go steady. On the downside, the fuel gauge does not work (so just fill up every 250 or 300 miles or whatever), it has no radio, although I have one I bought for it which I never bothered wiring in, and the drivers window switch is dodgy. It only works in one direction so you wind the window down then when you want to wind it back up again you have to put the wiring plug on the switch back-to-front!!! Needs a new switch doesn’t it, I’ll buy one if I ever see one.

Also, try not to crash it or let it get nicked, I realise it’s impossible to completely prevent that from happening and you have to be a bit philosophical about it but if you live on a dodgy street maybe chuck a disklock or something on it, it would be pretty tragic if it got trashed having made it this far unlike 99% of all the other Argentas ever made.

If anyone fancies this idea and thinks they have a suitably philosophical outlook to handle driving round in someone else’s scruffy old clunker for a few months (something is bound to need fettling on it at some point) sleep on it for a day or two then send me a PM.

Sounds like a kewl plan and I would be up for it if I didnt already have dibs on a 205XS that I need to collect.

I could see the faces of m'learned colleagues now if I smoked up to work in that

Not crazy at all....I offered Cortinadave the same offer on my Sapphire just last week.....GLWTLD

I think it's a sound idea as well, "Borrow my tat" I'd love to borrow an Argenta for a bit. I've always wanted one, but at present I've too much tat of my own and no space.

All cars need to be used and if you haven't got a use for it at present someone else may have .... it does take a lot of trust in to account though.

I was toying with suggesting something along the lines of a temporary "tat swap scheme" to scratch itches we have without actually having to buy the car.

I'd love to do this if you were closer! I'd also love to bring the grey trim back to black, but I'm odd like that!

Sadly, I have the ZX, the Mrs wouldn't like it and I'll struggle to find the time to do anything with it!

LOL rev

BLX you are insane :D

tempted but lack of cash and moving house says im out

Not a bad idea. Hope it works out for you. I'd ask for a deposit of a goodly amount myself, but would be good to see it get used elsewhere. I'd offer it a home here but it'd have to sit on the driveway and would probably dissolve.

I'm also reluctant because the last car we 'looked after' ended up looking like this. (though I wasn't driving it)

What a great plan. I would love to take charge of the Argenta for a while but summer is coming and I have my own “shite†to drive. The plan would work for me if it was for a month or two and then pass it on to another member.

GR8 idea, as DW said though you might want to get a deposit. Can I humbly also suggest you get some form of written 'contract' drawn up to cover your own back? I say this purely because if there was an accident you might blamed in some stupid way, someone may make off with the MUTHA/not bring it back/disappear into the sunset, and what happens if they decide to cancel the insurance and the car gets towed off or something?

Sorry to be the (usual) misery arse but in the crazy world we currently live in you sadly have to think of all 'worse case scenarios' in case someone does something stupid.

Hello. I would be extremely interested in this. I was thinking the last few days about getting a £300 clunker of some sort to schlepp about in as it's getting to be a bit of a bind only having one car between me and Mrs_Ceri. This would be even better.

First of all, let me say it would have to live on the street (although as I start work at 3:30 am it would actually spend half the night in the work car park). I'd certainly look after it as best I can, although I'm be no means an expert mechanic; I'm a fully paid up AA member though! I can provide references, driving licence, proof of insurance etc., whatever you need to satisfy you that I'm bona fide...

Oh yeah, and I'd be more than happy to do a tat-loan blog for the benefit of the forum!

I don't particularly want to ask for a deposit as that complicates the whole thing significantly. I want to trust whoever takes it on will treat it OK. I'll trust them on that. Obv i'm not going to entrust it to a total stranger who only signed up yesterday (I know no-one's been able to sign up for about 18 months :lol: )

*****Edit***** I haven't got any indoor storage for it either, so don't worry abut it living on a driveway or street etc, thats no worse than what it'd get if no-one takes up the offer.

What a brilliant idea and also what an awesome looking car, really loving that.

I would be interested boll, but the logistics would probably mean it wouldn't get that much use up here either!

Posted

What a fantastic idea, I hope someone takes you up on it. It won't be me, partly because my house is approximately 100 yards from the sea and it would dissolve within a couple of days.

It'll do the car good to be used rather than sitting around, too.

Maybe insist on fully comp insurance?

Will the Polonez be available on this scheme?

Posted

Shame I don't know you also. My son would love being driven around in this.

What a great thing to do. Wish you the best of luck with it and if anyone tries to take the piss, may they be struck by a painful illness!! Seriously though, fair play to ya!

I may be up for this, Mr B. I have a spare classic policy waiting to go on something, but I've found nowt I fancy yet. (Anyone seen a good Allegro estate for me?)

Left hand drive innit, this one? Not bothered by it, but I've not lived with one myself.

I see it has a towbar - would you trust it to pull an R8 or Samara back to Yorkshite? (Unintentional typo, but I'll leave it for lols.) Just thinking of logistics.

Does W.O.Ceri get first dibs?

Will the Polonez be available on this scheme?

If not the Bo11ognes, SambaS might be up for this with his beige example if you speak to him nicely...

What a great idea. It's like an autoshite version of a Classic Car Club where you loan various models on a points basis. You could call it Shite Club

sure is LHD. Heres a couple more pics, its gained a little bit of moss since these were taken but that will wash off I suppose. No doubt a little bit more rust as well.

The first rule of Shite Club...

Hell, I'm tempted to borrow this just so I can massage some colour back into those exterior plastics.

I bought some fancy* shiz off ebay to recolour those, as you can see I made a half-arsed job of the front bumper and drivers' door trim, then left the rest!

That's an extremely generous offer Mr B, I'm sure someone on here will take up the offer, maybe even several people will!
