Gotta love freebie!!

So, my neighbour opposite comes and says to me " I know you love your old crap, my uncle is now in a care home and his house needs clearing, fancy a look?"

Oh yes.

The house has sooo many goodies, I have now got loads of old brass ornaments, tools, vintage collectibles, scrap metal, antique furniture, retro stuff, oh, and a free Morris Marina!

Granted its not a sought after model, and its rusty, but for free I cannot grumble..

Has been in that spot since 96!!

"Caution, No Hand Signals" - I can't remember the last time I saw that on the back of a car...Giffer-tastic!!!

I'd guess 1800 as auto box. Basic Deluxe model, Super and HL had the rectangular driving lamps in the grill, etc.

Looks like it's a spares only car. Pity it's an auto as a 1300 manual would be more saleable I imagine (assuming it's a 1300 that is)

Gotta be worth over bridge money on the bay!

*edit*

It is a 1300!

I think the engine may be of interest to Minor perverts.

That and 'Please pass, running in' on the back window!

You've done well there Mr 1300, sad that it looks too far gone to get back on the road but you never know!

It's a 1300 and I think the fancy wheel trims make it a Super. The rectangular driving lamps didn't appear until the second facelift model in about 1978.

I was told its a 1300 but wasnt too sure...

I wont make any decisions until its back on my driveway, shared with a 1000 mini auto up on axle stands, the 205 stdt and my fiesta. Good think I have understanding neighbours, the ones opposite collect and restore stationary engines :D

It looks very bad, BUT, I feel it may not be as rotten as I think, was too wet and soggy to be laying on the floor to check.

i think it would be do able you can get loads of repair panels for them now.id love a van or pick up

Stored since 1996 on grass- it will be rotten as a pear! I wouldn't entertain trying to get it back on the road, not when a few hundred ££ should buy you a roadworthy example. Strip and scrap, use the money on your Peugeot!

Posted

even if its rotten the longitudinal 1275 will ebay for decent money to someone into morris minors, the same may even happen to the gearbox.

Posted

Bet a 1300 auto axle is a rare thing too. No idea if it's desirable.

Posted

Good result although after being sat on grass that long it must have the structural integrity of wet cardboard.

Break it then spend money on the Peugeot please!

Posted

I'd strip the lump out of it as well as the interior if it's good and weight the rest in, you can't save them all plus it's coins towards the 205.

The way the stereo faces away from the driver on these always makes me LOL. If you want to re-tune the stereo are you supposed to stop and get into the passengers seat?

I stand corrected re the engine.

But first mild facelift was 1976 during P reg'd. It got the curved dash, this grill, different bumpers and reversing lights incorporated in the main clusters. The 1978 facelift (T reg'd) was when they bought the O series 1700 cc in, more plastic on the bumpers inc. front indicators, bigger rear light strips etc.

I know 'cos I had one!! Anorak off!

what a result! as a fan of these cars I'd say see if its worth doing..but going by the state of the outer panels chances are the inner ones are going to be much, much worse. could be of interest to the owner's club, though.

I pretty much never intended on repairing it. Its much worse than my triumph was (visually) and like you say, I have the peugeot to sort and punt on.

Just thought I would share the pictures for you fellow shite lovers.

As others have said, it might have some bits that Minor owners will want, as much as it pains me to say it.

If you have space flog the bits on ebay and bin the rest. And maybe give the old guy a few quid as a thank you. Good luck with dragging it out!

Posted

The guy is in a care home and not with it at all. The guy who offered it to me doesnt want a penny ( although I will do my usual and buy a crate of beer as a goodwill gesture)

It is a shame, but its not worth spending out and repairing, on this, its been standing for far too long now.

Plenty of advice from folk on here but you can only really be sure how far gone it is when you've seen it for real in the tin (or in the rust)...

I'd have thought there's a fair bit to save parts-wise there anyway. You never know who might want some bits.

Posted

There will be plenty of pics. It needs an RBM to hiab it out as it has had trees planted around it since it was laid up :D

Posted

Just for a giggle, see if the engines free, and if you can coax it into life with some tlc;would be great to see it move out under its own power !

Posted

You can't beat a freebie, can you! :D If I still had my A40 I would have been very keen on the engine/autobox combination, and the back axle to go with it. Quite sure there will be another A40 perv thinking the same kind of thoughts... ebaying the usable parts looks like a good way to go, and you never know, some banger boy might have the shell off you even then.

Posted

Not bad for nowt - unfortunately looks too far gone to be saved. I dread to think what the bits of the car you can't see must look like - they probably have the integrity of a ryvita.

Not as nice as a MK 3 tina, shame there are so few of them left now. I am sure that everybody on this site must have known somebody who owned one at some point.I have a 1.8 TC, however it is a corgi whizzwheels one.

I have a soft spot for Marinas, I have owned 2 saloons and 2 Itals.

If you do sell it on eBay, make sure you tell people it needs trailering...I can just see some clown turning up and trying to drive it home to Lands End...

Bin it man*, even I can see that it's totally shagged. I'd love to see photos of the other tat you pulled out of this guy's house though, I love shit like that. In fact I reckon my ultimate life dream is doing an ad hoc house clearance on some deceased old codger's gaff and pulling out hundreds of fuggin' bakelite telephones and smelly tweed jackets and whatnot to add to the massive collection of useless old shit that I already own. Wouldn't even mind doing that for a living tbh, though I'd inevitably keep everything for myself instead of selling it on and just end up like one of the hopeless old hoarders whose crap I was 'clearing' in the first place. I suppose when I eventually died some other mental house clearance bloke would hit the bloody jackpot when he rolled up to my house in his high roof Bedford CF or whatever.

*After carefully stripping it of all useful parts and preserving the 'no hand signals' section as a bit of garage wall art, natch
