I absolutely love a hearse, shame so many get bangered.

 

I've spotted a few, this Merc came in for service but I wasn't allowed to take it for a rip. Modern ones have way too much glass area anyway.

The stretch Granada's were by Woodall Nicholson, usually where they were added seats in them. Not necessarily funeral trade, could be big families or a taxi.

I just found one of those bonnet plinths under the seat of my hearse. There are no holes in the bonnet so it might not be from my car. Mine does have a bloody great cross on the roof instead.

IIRC RichardK of this parish has a carlton hearse, which is often used as a general use vehicle.

 

My favourite story was him describing using it to take some rubbish to the tip, so he wrapped a load of it up in bin bags to look like a body, took it there in the hearse and then slung it in the general waste bin.  Many rather concerned looks from others!

The Granny's a Granada Windsor by Coleman Milne. They were big cars too! A guy I worked with ages ago had one. It ended its days on the oval!

Edit: they generally weren't hearses but some were used by funeral directors as accompanying limos.

Wow. That does look like a near-povo spec HC too, with the plain ally grille and hubcaps - no SL fripperies here. Distinctive 1256cc engine note, then...

I see the pic from the Old Classic Car site shows the rear end treatment, when opened out to full view.

Personally, I think we might have a three-way tie between this Viva, the Simca 1100 and the Seat Malaga for the Ultimate Shiter Hearse trophy (with honourable runner-up mentions for the B3 Passat and Astra Mk3)
