Golf IV has to be a contender, 1.4 to 2.8 pez and dizzle from Slowest Diesel Imaginable to 150PS PD.

AFAIK there were even 2 different GTI options.

Likewise Passat, probably same underneath like Maestro/Montego were.

Don't forget the r32.

No.

The Mark 1 Astra had a 2 door saloon version, but no convertible or Astramax, so Mark 2 still has the most body styles.

No, you're right - the way PSA presented it was always "based on" preceding version - I thoght the Visa introduced the twist beam rear axle though, I don't know 104s well.

104, LN(A) and Samba had the twist-beam; I think the Visa just had softer and longer travel version, that being the only 104-derived car I haven’t driven! I think the AX/106/Saxo also had these.

The 205 and 309 certainly had the torsion bars based on the 305’s rear axle, which went under the ZX, 306, Berlingo/Partner and I think the Xsara.
