The Oldest Shite Still in Production? (Uninterruptedly)

Is it really the Bloody Hindustan Ambassador? or my PAYKAN can take the trophy?... PAYKAN has been in Production since 1967 non stop, they stopped making the sedan in 2005 but they are still making the Pick-Up, 45 years and counting.

Remember it has to be in production uninterruptedly.

Does the Land Rover Defender count?

Although its hugely different from the original, so is the above pick up really.

Also, the BA3 2107, AKA the Lada Riva is still in production in Russia. That original design comes from 1969 and what its based on, the Fiat 124, dates from 1966.

Land Rover Defender counts sure, so that is from 1983 onward. Not the Series before that since the Defender was a major model change.

The Paykan Pick-Up is no different from the Sedan and the rest of the Arrow series, it carries the same suspension design and floor.

Would it be a Piecan Cunter by any chance?

The only contender I can think of is the Piaggio Ape, that's had an exceptionally long run and is still in production, it can't be that different from the original mechanically and I imagine it's only superficial cosmetic face lifts that have changed over the years. Wikipedia says it started in 1948.

Tell me more about the LADA, is it basically the same as FIAT 124?... But LADA is no longer in production is it? i thought they just recently stopped it.

Does Morgan carries the same Body/Frame & suspension set up as the one in 1955?

And by 405 you relying on the Iran Khodro production line?

G Wagen? Still? Where?...

VW Passat? Still? Where?...

And I see how conveniently you didn't included the Paykan in your list!...

Think we had this thread last year, lets call packman chunder the winner and be done with it

Until I checked the dates, I thought this WAS last year's thread.

I reckon the morgan 4/4 takes it. I've tested 50s ones, and ones in for their first MoT at 3 years old (and 442 miles on the clock :o ) and it's the same car. Same size, same underpinnings, same godawful front suspension. All that changes is the plushness of the trim and whatever engines ford had on sale this week.

But I... I like my HMV Freeway!

I would agree, the basic chassis/bodyframe/suspension dates even further back to the flat-rad 4/4 first produced in 1936 and the sliding pillar front suspension even further back to the three wheeler of 1909. There was a break in 4/4 production around 1939 until the early 1940s for some reason and then again for a short while until the Series 2 4/4 with the cowled front. They have always been a bit of a parts-bin construction using whatever bits are available at the time causing great fun amongst the concours brigade who will tell an owner that their car has the wrong whatever fitted, when in fact the owner has had it from new, not changed a thing from the factory, it was just that the factory found a batch of unused whatevers from years ago and decided to use them up.

Anyway enough from me, I've almost expressed an opinion, so I'd better get back in my box.

Also, it's the only one still in production by the original manufacturer, probably in the same shed.

spam bump..i passed a rather flash Morgan today..made me think about the longevity..

A mate used to have a very nice Morgan +4 (with Skoda switches )

On a bumpy road the ride was so poor my testicles sought refuge somewhere up near my kidneys.

Lotus 7? Made since the 50s. As has been the Hindustan. The 124/Riva has been made since 66, so there's three for you 8)

Maybe even the Honda Super Cub but I'm not sure if that's been one single design.

Doesn't count, but Chevrolet have been making the Suburban since about 1935!... ok, it's just a name, but that must rival the Transit for different 'marks'.

bump doesnt count..Ford Australia have been building the Falcon as of name since 1960..

The South American VW type 2's are a bit of an oddity though. They acquired the 'bay window' front end in the 70's but kept the earlier style small square side windows and hinged loading doors until after the T25 came out here and the newer tooling shipped over. The latin varients still have the underframe and suspension (kingpins rather than IRS) from the splitty so could possibly be claimed as multiple facelifts on a 1948 original.

Tayne you are spot on.

I won't give him a hard time though as he means well.

I enjoy the odd thread of 'Can anyone name a car produced in Iran from 1967 based on the Hillman Hunter?'
