FS: Nissan Bluebird 2.0SLX - £495

Regrettably, I seem to have got myself into that 'too many cars' pickle once more, so it looks like I'm going to have to sell the nicest car I own.

C-reg, Japanese-built Bluebird. Nice SLX spec. Nice 2-litre engine. Drives beautifully, is exceedingly solid, only 36,000 miles! Interior looks untouched, exterior is generally good though there's been quite a lot of touch-up paint used (by me and the first owner) because the first owner wasn't very good at parking. Recent oil and filter, recent rebuilt PAS rack, recent ARB drop links.

Tax up this month (which is an issue as I have no money), MOT Nov 18th but will put fresh MOT on for the asking (or discount as-is). I'm after £495.

This car will be appearing in quite a few classic magazine titles over the coming weeks. In fact, it appears in this week's Classic Car Buyer for a start. I'll be sad to see this one go, but it's either this or the Maverick, and the Mav is more useful.

Good luck with the sale. I mean that, since I've found I can't even give these things away.....

There seems to be a glut of Jap cars of much bargains around at the moment, I can't shift the Corolla either.

Don't know why they're not selling, its rather frustraiting to say the least!

GLWTS etc.

I always thought banger racers gave pretty good money for these as a last resort? I know thats not the ethos of the forum but if you need it gone?

I'd have that stainless exhaust off it though!

shows you whats annoying about UK motoring habits - A bulletproof, very low mileage, deeply reliable, comfortable, practical, easy to maintain car for under 500 notes - should have people gasping. Yet they'd rather buy a completely clapped out 02 plate blandmobile for the same money that will cost £££ to keep going. Madness

I've quite a soft spot for these old 'Birds, having been transported home in a semi-conscious state in the back of one many times in the past. Why is no-one ever selling anything this decent when I'm actually looking for a car?

GLWTS etc... :D

Bloody typical I'm not looking for a motor now. This would have done me lovely. Hope it does sell, I like these old buses.

If it was 1997 and I was the proprietor of a Fish and Chip shop I would have this off you like a shot.

I'm not desperate to get rid, more annoyed that I'm not getting any interest. I know it's a phrase that gets banded arounda lot, but it's genuinely way too good for that kind of fate. Although I'm almost wishing for a few HOW MUCH4 CASH COLEKT 2NITE texts just to show me it is being noticed

This is annoying as I am awaiting a cheque which has not yet appeared and this Bluebird not only has a pantograph rear wiper, but a voltmeter. Can you tell I am easily pleased?

GLWTS and all that...

This not only sums up what is annoying about UK motoring habits, it sums up all that is wrong with modern society and goes some way to explaining why this country is in the sorry state it is.

That's because Simpleton A has a daughter or son who needs a cheap car to get them to their new job miles away. Simpleton A's offspring point out perfectly usebale, decent condition solid car that will last for years. Simpleton A exclaims horror, and because he 'knows a thing or two about cars'* he pronounces said Bluebird too old and 'did you know you can buy a ten year old car for that sort of money, not some clapped out old banger'.

Said kids get a 90,000 mile Peugeot 206 1.1LX that's been polished up and has Halford's wheeltrims. Three weeks later the n/s driveshaft pops out, the door and the wing have a coming together because there was a one mile an hour wind fifty miles away. Said car causes no end of shit and is weighed off 7 months later before the whole sorry eipsode starts again. Meanwhile the Bluebird carries on being used every day effortlessly and reliably.

*He read a copy of Autocar left on a train in 1978.

Yep, I'm struggling to move the xantia on inspite of the amount of recent work done too, anyone fancy a swap?

What a lusty motor. I'd love to stick the lpg kit I have lying about in my garage onto it for uber frugal shite motoring. Saab shaped commitments prevent this however. GLWTS e.t.c

What does the gauge on the top right of the dashboard do?

Economy gauge. Only ever in the green area if you basically coast downhill

I think we may have different driving styles. It only goes in the red for me when I hoon it, which frankly feels like trying to run in flip flops, so I generally don't. (enough torque to build up speed anyway, which is something I like).

I must have lead feet then! Although they're about as sporty as watching darts on tv, they never pretend to be anything but, and that's something I found very refreshing

Aye. It's the 'old Merc' mentality. You kind of lose the desire to get anywhere quickly. Just pop another Werther's in your gob and build up a huge queue of traffic behind you. It's dangerous to drive quickly in one of these as no-one expects it.

Maybe we should all rent a plot somewhere (preferably next to a Little Chef) and bung all these motors for sale in one place :D

Is it auto or manual Ian?

Or we could have some kind of part ex wife swap party, where everyone puts their keys in a bowl and we all get a random car (and possibly wife) to drive home with

If you can afford the space for a short while, sorn it and wait and see what happens in the next few weeks,as lets face it,you aren't asking a fortune for it,and as you like the car,you might find a solution pops up which enables you to keep the Bluebird.

Posted

SORN is certainly an option, if only to do it for a couple of months so it isn't in sync with other cars on the fleet. BX also needs tax at the end of this month. The more sensible option is probably to SORN the new BX, especially as it isn't actually drivable at the moment.

RobT - it is a manual but it has a beautifully light and smooth clutch. Most un-BX like!

Don't exporters buy all old Japanese cars? Or are they put off by FWD ones?

Seem to remember Billy selling one of these to a Nigerian (!) with no hassle at all.

Posted

A lot do seem to go overseas. Would prefer that not to happen though. Can't be many Japanese-built ones left over here.

Posted

Better than a banger race though. You can imagine its new life in the sunny streets of Accra or somewhere!

I'm on the verge of resorting to Ebay in an attempt to sell

Yep, I got three and half ton for the one I had, though it was an auto. It was a right shame and all that, but he bid the most and put the money where his mouth was.

There'd be some money in it for racing but to be honest i would guess only about £250 at the most.
