25v6turbo Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I need a few period 1970s add on to make my MK1 Triumph 2000 look more Shite...so i need help with a few things if anyone has anything for sale,i would like a pair of bullet mirrors(i,ve got the standard bomerang type)at the moment i have the following14" minilites, smiths heated rear screen, roof rack, tow bar(Stanpart genuine fitment)front Lucas square 8s,rear Lumex round reverse light, and very rubbed through tatty paintwork, which looks the part, but i would like to get the mirrors, some of them wind deflector things that go on the wiper arms, slip over headrests(Red)anything else on offer????
25v6turbo Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 i forgot about the aerial, bog standard pull up jobbie on the o/s/f wing, anything different i can fit?
pogweasel Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Doesn't sound ALL THAT shite-look. What you need is some roof bars with a ladder tied to them with blue string, and a bucket dangling precariously from that ladder. Your aeriel should be fashioned from an old coat-hanger.Try to get at least two panels in totally different colours to the rest of the car.
25v6turbo Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 The coat hanger idea i,ve already tried, looks good,so might go back to it....The roof is actually black and the rest of the car is white(Original colour scheme)as for the roof rack i,ve got a towrope wrapped around it,might get something else strapped to it,but not sure what, don,t want to godown the route of copying the VW boys, its got a tatty metal GB badge on the boot.I was thinking about a real rusty looking front wing, but not sure how to get the affect, maybe i just paint strip it to bare metal??Is that how the beetles/golfs get there rusty look on the bodywork?.
Guest Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Sounds like my 323, when it goes down for MOT it won't be the most attractive looking car - brush painting, very obvious chemical metal/drinks can repairs, etc.Perhaps I should build on this and have a temporary "shite look"? I've just got a new aerial in the post, I could keep that to the side and make a coathanger one in the meantime. Would be superb to drive to work in a suit and tie, in a complete shite-look car. The Galant doesn't really have that effect as it still looks pretty shiny and nice (bar a few grotty bits). The question is, as pointed out above, how far do you go before it enters the dreaded VW "ratlook"?
25v6turbo Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 I don,t rally want it as a Rat look, more of a car as it might look by the mid 70s(circa summer 76)when it was 11 years old and the owner had bought the odd copy of Hot Car or CCC magazine(got loads of these in the loft)i must get some ideas from them.
Cavcraft Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 The coat hanger idea i,ve already tried, looks good,so might go back to it....The roof is actually black and the rest of the car is white(Original colour scheme)as for the roof rack i,ve got a towrope wrapped around it,might get something else strapped to it,but not sure what, don,t want to godown the route of copying the VW boys, its got a tatty metal GB badge on the boot.I was thinking about a real rusty looking front wing, but not sure how to get the affect, maybe i just paint strip it to bare metal??Is that how the beetles/golfs get there rusty look on the bodywork?.Nah, they all go like that two days after being wheeled out of the showroom
Albert Ross Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Nodding dog with light up eyes...................Lightning conductor dangling off the rear bumper..................slipover head rests for the front seats...................... a screw on Centre Console with fake wood..............One of the "soundhog" little wheeled toys stuck to the dashboard somewhere...............I have none of the above, just memories of!What about one single front seat in a different colour/trim type! Interior door panel missing..............Piece of plywood wedged into door where glass used to be?
155V6 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Black plastic rear window louvre, chain link steering wheel?
reallyloud Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Look closely at the shite TV of the time - there was plenty of it. Starsky & Hutch made a huge impression on owners of red cars well into the 80's. Wolfrace/slotmags wheels, jag rear axle, rear mounted rubber strips that dangle on the ground and a CB ariel. Job done.
Cavcraft Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 And an external sun visor of course. Oddly enough I happen to have one of those somewhere
mnde Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Sheepskin seat covers & steering wheel cover are the shite period accessories I remember most - you neeeed these. Fluffy dice, reflectors on the edges of doors and tailgate. Doorhandle protectors, Garfield with suction feet stuck inside rear window. "Keep Your Distance" sticker, lightning conductor strip. Headlamp wash-wiper conversion, aftermarket vinyl roof, pinstripes, plastic wheelarch liners, golfball gearknob, windscreen wiper fins, a set of those awful back massage things slung over the front seats that were like strings of wooden beads (know the ones?). A big old-fashioned AA/RAC badge for the grille Mark.
Rocket88 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Having a big garage clearout this weekend, I'm sure I can help.............
Father Ted Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 3 things:Tartan Rug on back shelfDont Blame Me, I voted Labour sticker for back window (OK circa 79 not 76)Stick on "wavey" plastic hand on a sucker & spring proclaiming you have been to Torbay
MrRegieRitmo Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Rubber human finger style clips for your boot lid / door frame edges. Smoke the rear lights black!
marinast Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 What about a 'running in' sticker in the rear window?
25v6turbo Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Nice ideas, plenty to go on,if anyone finds anything in there garage, give me a shout.......
Cavcraft Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Steering wheel knob, door protector strips, period picnic set and external sunvisor. All just a pm away.Actually the absolute ultimate accessory for me would have to be one of those car stickers with a picture of a ventreloquist's teddy bear either side of the slogan 'I like a lot of Nooky!'.Anyone else remember those?
25v6turbo Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 I,ve got a 1970 world cup willie sticker on it,also an esso tiger(Put a tiger in your tank)sticker,i really want a pair of those wiper arm deflectors, bullect mirrors, but i like the ideas people have given me,great work.P.S i PROMISE i will get some updated pics posted shortly, just want to complete the look before i get any pics sorted,a neighbour couldn,t believe its roadworthy, cheeky git.....
MrRegieRitmo Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 May be some ideas on this thread.....http://autoshite.commlm/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2762&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=tiger+tank&start=0
r.welfare Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Maybe it's just me, but save for the primered arch and the rear offside valance that appears to have been made out of ice cream tub lids and porridge, that looks pretty tidy!
55bloke Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 That's a pretty cool looking motor!!On a personal note, have you changed your e-mail addy Mr v6 turbo? I've had my last couple of e-mails bounced back to me.
25v6turbo Posted August 10, 2008 Author Posted August 10, 2008 Theres plenty of porridge in the doors, lower rear wings etc,and its a flat as a pancake, its been painted in a snow storm i think!Just bought a NOS perid Speedwell pod rev counter which should look nice,it flew through an MOT yesterday aswell, result!
CortinaDave Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 take off the ariel and repace with a coathanger. Paint up to the middle of the doors in black underseal
