Cars for Sale section?

Loving the 'wanted' section, so what about a 'cars for sale' section?? Would make life a bit easier all round (maybe)?

Just a thought.

I kind of think it's best if people start a thread if they have a motor to sell. And the communal ebay crap thread is good for other bits.

In other words I think it's best how it is.

I also don't really get the 'wanted' thread. Why would people look through x amount of pages to see if someone wants some part that I have?

Maybe it's just me!

Half the fun of AS is reading through the threads and finding an ace motor for sale. Let's keep it that way.

I used to be on Club Gti until they ruined it with a massive amount of sections, so you ended up not reading most of the posts as they were in sections you didn't look in.

Autoshite is best without different sections, long may it last.

One of the most unique and endearing features of this place is the pick'n'mix nature of all the threads being lumped together in one section. :D

Actually, I feel a separate section would be better. Problem is with only one forum threads quickly drop off the front page, and chances are the only people who will see your topic are people who visit regularly

A seperate for sale section would ruin the feel of the place, I think. Punters would visit the site purely to see what sort of old chod is for sale and they would be less inclined to read the rest of the General Chat. Not having a dedicated FS section part of the charm and uniqueness that AS has - and we wouldn't want moaty's cat thinking we were copying them!

As for the Wanted thread, that's fine where it is - it feels more like a "oh, by the by, if you hear of anyone with one of these going" sort of conversation down the pub.

I must say that adding a few sections is the sensible progression in forum behaviour - a very sensible update. However, here on Autoshite, much like the Catholic church, we rightly regard 'progress' as something to be incredibly suspicious of, convinced as we are that things were always better in the old days. However, we don't muck about with children and have less guilt.

So, leave it as is then!

I find the Wanted sticky a bit odd, but it seems I might actually (possibly) track down some wheeltrims for the Bluebird, so I can't be too critical.

A few weeks ago, somebody started a useful and recommended links/contacts thread, which I thought was a far more sensible candidate for a "sticky". Disappeared now. The wanted thread makes some sense but I can see it getting a bit unwieldy and difficult to follow before very long.

Thats the whole reason I created I created the 'Wanted' thread. We all collect parts, even for cars we dont/no longer have and there is always someone on the look out for something specific, too many times someone will have chucked away some parts that someone else might have needed. Most 'wanted' threads/comments within other threads will easily get lost in the many other threads we have up here, so at least with a dedicated 'Wanted' thread, you can use the search function (at the top of each thread) to search within that specific thread for anyone wanting something your after.

I didnt realise it was going to be made into a sticky, that wasnt my intention, but Mr_Sceptre saw fit to do so and I respect his decision.

I knew for sure that had I created a single thread or dropped a single post somewhere specifically about the wanted stereo I'm looking for it would have very quickly disappeared.

Personally speaking I'm on the fence with a specific Cars for Sale section;

For - I'd say its an easy thread to find and with the search function you can find your dream motor within that specific thread. Thread wont drop off page if made into a sticky.

Against - There could be too much banter/possible disagreements, look at what happend when I tried to sell a Rover 820i some months back. Also many find it easier to add or create thier own threads.

I'm on the fence, if a section is created, I wont disagree, if not, so be it.

Yeah, some "banter" that was! :D

I must admit, I often find myself in two minds over this creation of sections stuff. I certainly appreciate Sterling's arguments above. But I certainly do know that AS seems to work pretty well as it is.
