That one lives in its own special World of Win.

Awesome, looks like a forerunner to those Hymermobiles you see fossils trundling about in these days.

About as aerodynamic as a brick.

I do like the sound of a 2-stroke being thrashed though. Reminds me of a Barkas in full flight.

I'm with Mr Bickle on these.

Some people took the idea and did something similar.

Hey M-O, what's the story with the collapsed Powerdrive? Did it ever live again? In the grand scheme of things I'd say they were relatively un-shite, especially when compared to a Gordon or whatever. the BSA thing looks like way too much fun to be properly shite too!

there are I think five or six Powerdrives in existence out of the 20-30 that they made from new. I know one owner pulled one of of the Groombridge microcar graveyard and it came apart as he lifted it up with a terminal chassis rot. He measured up mine to make a new chassis.

They are utter, utter shite - 0-30mph was measured in minutes. The engine had to push 9-10cwt and only had 15bhp to do it with. Was also stifled by being fan cooled and stuck at the back, driving a long chain-drive. I drove mine once and the handling was atrocious too. Too heavy, too wide, too underpowered, and too bloody useless.

The Powerdrive in the picture is being 'restored'. I think it was the one parked in a North London garden for nigh on thirty years.

The Gordon had no electric start so it was run round and kick start it - only one door too. It also handled badly, what with all the weight on one side.

The BSA - I liked it - sat in it, but never drove it. Belonged to Mike Webster who remanufactured the WMC Bond Bugs.

Ah yes, the Fossilwagen, often with a strange lack of door.

The vid did make me smile, the topic title? Perfect.

That is simply brilliant. Sort of like a caravan with 4 wheels. The engine beside the driver must be somewhat a concern but I suppose it means you wont get wet whilst working in that area.

This was quite common I think back in the day, the Commer van was another example where you could top up the oil whilst on the hoof.

That redefines the philosophy of reductio ad absurdum... I like!

When I win the lottery, I will buy one and turn up to a meeting of VW camper enthusiasts in it, just to show them the error of their ways.

Excellent. Far more interesting than anything the last three or so seasons of Top Gear have come up with.
