Extinct cars

If often used to be the case in London (and no doubt elsewhere) that cars would be taxed on the last day/week possible pre MOT expiry and just sit there without MOT but with tax. Kind of keeps it off the radar a little, but not really.

And it appears the owner of that Croma has done this. So it'll be MOT tested at some point.

Another at risk car, the Fiat Idea. When did you last see one?

I do hope that's the case, I don't think there's another RHD Croma around not to my knowledge anyway.

There's one local to me owned my some giffer who's had it since new, other than that I cannot remember the last time I saw one so great shout with that!

One drove past me on the M1 a couple of months back, but it was perhaps the only one I've seen in the UK this year. I seem to think it had some Fiat 3 spoke alloys but I may be wrong.

There’s several left.

Looks like the attrition rate on these is quite high. Still plenty around for the time being however this probably won't be the case for too much longer so I reckon @bramz7 Is on the money with this one.

I recently saw a powder blue Fiat Idea driving through the Beacon Heath area of Exeter. I need to find it again so I can get more information. Yes, they have become super-rare in such a short space of time.

I was expecting to see the 'grey bar of death' when looking up that white Croma. It turns out it is actually taxed until May next year so it's looking hopeful.

This just appeared on the MCEC Facebook page, but the poster has immediately turned off the comments for some reason. Note it seems to be pictures of BOTH white Cromas.

If we look up the profile... it's pretty much empty, and the name in the URL doesn't match the name on the profile.

On the one hand, it could be legit as this is a weird thing to lie about, but on the other I'm highly suspicious of literally everything on the Internet. Time for some sleuthing? If it's real, someone might be able to step in and rescue it! Not me, however, my inn is full.

It's complete horseshit.

He's just lifted photos of two white Cromas in London from the internet, I know because I took one of them in 2009. Clearly a con.

I knew it didn't smell right - has scam written all over it, it was just the sheer absurdity of it that threw me for a bit of a loop, just for a moment.

What a strange lie to tell. You'd be hard pushed to find a smaller parts market to target, I assume he's angling for muppets like us to offer him money to save it. Reported the ad anyway.

I'm breaking 'it' when he's pictured both of the white Cromas. Fail.

I actually own both white Cromas.

Willing to sell them for £100 each if you send an immediate bank transfer.

DM only.

Do you take Western Union, or will I need to pay in iTunes vouchers?

I'll send round a man to collect; he will have a cheque for random amount more than the asking price, which you will pay him for the transport.

I spotted the white CHT at the weekend so it's still about, my old I.E. is also still going strong with the lad I sold it to in 2020, would love to buy it back.

Big arsed Megan

Saw one in the wild last Friday on the M4/A449 - not too far away from a VelSatis which I have never seen in the flesh before - AutoTrader has two of those for sale

There was a Daihatsu Charmant that came up for sale a few years ago here in Norway and one has come up for sale now that is similar. So I'm pretty sure this is the same car and may be Norway's only surviving Charmant as I've never seen another.

Yep, that'll be Matt of High Peak Autos one that he yet again 'massively overspent' on. Video on the YouTubes of it being done up.

I reckon the big arsed Meganes might live on a bit longer, but Mk1s must be seriously at risk now.

My prediction would've been the Fiat Sedici, being the less popular sibling of the Suzuki SX4, but there's still a fair few of them going strong.

And how did I forget these pair

Spotted this pair at Alfafest 2023 in Bicester. Spoke to the owner of the Arna, definitely not keen to sell on at the time unfortunately for me.

Don’t know if we’ve already had this, but earlier versions of the Renner Espace must be all but dead now? Even the later, really handsome ones (Mk3?! From about the late 90s?) seem pretty scarce these days. We had a 51 reg Grand Espace, it ‘lectrics were shonky as fook but it was a bloody lovely thing to waft about in when it was serviceable! A real shame the last ‘proper’ ones (not that daft recent effort that’s nothing like a proper Espace) aren’t a bit more reliable, a bit less knackered and a tad less pistakingly priced!
