reallyloud
All this botchery goes along with the 'if we can't find the part, we'll botch anything on there' philosophy seen in a lot of southern hempishere nations.
KruJoe
You're right DatsunCherry, especially stuff like the Simca (great excuse to post my re-spottting pictures): Rather a handsome thing but for it's distended rump. ...but DC, there's also a lot of home-done facelifting or bodging on newer partsto make an old shed look more modern. I'm sure it would've been easier to find some replacement Corolla lights over seeking out, cutting, and bodging on a Nissan NX back end: And this Familia pick-up with 90's Mitsu Strada grille and home-stretched cab: Back to business. ^ Another re-spot: this time the front of the well used "Fill the World with Love"Datsun Bluebird. And WTF??Surprised to see an NSX had ventured out of Bangkok: ^ Racer Sport 3 Speed FTW Honda Beat, Thai style: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010400/P1040592.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010400/P1040847.jpghttp://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010500/P1050059.jpg ^ "WZ" ?? http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010500/P1050059.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010500/P1050058.jpg ^ Sub-50cc bikes are technically illegal here, but still they're brought in from Japan second hand for students and old ladies. Ratdat
^ Another re-spot: this time the front of the well used "Fill the World with Love"Datsun Bluebird.JThis isn't actually a Bluebird. It's a Datsun 521 wagon which also came as apanel van and a pickup. Yue Loong made them in Taiwan too as a YLN-751. Curiously, Yue Loong sold a 4 door wagon version that I don't think was even available from Nissan. The beauty on the spec lift is an Austin A50 Cambridge. I do have to wonder what the possibility in that part of the world, that it's a Japanese built one (made by Nissan)
andrewp
What a lovely old A50.....here is a pic of me with my very first car when I was aged 13, it cost £45 in 1977, I never got to drive it but was sold for a nice profit a year later. The burgundy one looks like it is a Japanese built one, it has different rear lights and bumper to my British one.
michiel
Car in child???Might the A50 be one built by Datsun then? And ouch re the Publica...
KruJoe
RatdatI bow to your vastly superior knowledge of aged j-tin. I only called the Dat 521 a Bluebird as someone else identified it as suchwhen I first posted it My bad! I do enjoy seeing photos of peoples old motors scanned in:Thanks for your Cambridge story Andrew P! I wish I had a digi-cam in my first few years of driving. When I get beck to Eng, I must find time to have a trawl through my folks' albums - maybe I'll find something. This one looks a similar vintage, and similarly, I'm not sure what it is: I know I ought to recognise that unusual grille... Those back lights are a cut'n'paste job (late Familia pick-up), but what is it?I thought Hindustan Ambassador, but wrong! MonkeyTopsI got you another Cit, though just an AX, and not looking too happy: 'Yeah mate, that looks mint! Corolla bumper suits it great.' AOW! sorry about that... That's more like it! I just love these. It's difficult to know which to choose as "Catch of the Day"...Is this worthy? KJ

Spottedlaurel
Those 4 door C210 Skylines are great. I'd love to have one of those.Ditto, I think they're actually nicer than the coupes. I'll use it as an excuse to post this, one of my favourite brochure shots: Spotted car looks like a facelift one (back lights are at least) as this blue one has the pre-facelift style. Facelift front end: And just to confuse things further: Both above are short-nose 4-cyl cars. Back ends also came with round lights in Japan: Rear camber and long nose suggest spotted car is a 6-pot. Ratdat
SL, did all long nose C210's come with a six? Just wondered as curiously some of the long nose 810's came with a four pot and they are from around the same period.

KruJoe
Another well overdue bump, fellas. A few shit-hot shite spots from the last few days have reminded me that I really should be sharing them all with youall. The A50 above is certainly badged Austin rather than Datsun. Does that match yours, AndrewP? Quality. ^ Those back lights almost fit, but too modern. 626 perhaps? MrRegie? ^ GT-R Nissan! One for SL: That Mazda Coup is a beauty, but this one I spied down the bottom of ourstreet on the way home, looked like an old Renault at the front from a distance (the way the wings meet the headlight surrounds), but no!"Catch of the day" must be a super-rare JDM Mk1 Mazda Capella! That looks Italian at the back to me. Lovely. Hope you agree some of those were worth sharing? KJ .
michiel
Yes, they were! I think the 616/Capella was actually an Italian stylling job. But er, what's this 'beauty'???
KruJoe
This one ^ ? Based on this Sunny estate (sorry I'm not good on codes), it's a locally assembled Nissan NV. That gold spot is a late one with the longer cab (formerly "Queen Cab" and the optional fiberglass hard top. I think they are still selling them as "Nissan Wingroad". Here's an earlier one with the shorter cab and pov-spec lights: ^ That one is taken from my first ever post on here; they're not at all uncommon. Due to tax breaks for pick-ups here, they're as sensible as anything for a cheap way onto four wheels. We'll probably have one when we move back to Thailand to build our house... michiel
Thanks! I'm no good with most codes either, or with them modern cars...
Ratdat
Even the Nissan built Austin A50's are still badged as Austins. They only differ in detail and the vin plate would say Nissan Motor Co on it. I don't think that is a Nissan one as it looks too low spec.
KruJoe
A few more from the last month or two... And this is my choice for "Catch of the day": No, not a Sunny as I thought from a distance... I got closer and it appeared too big... I give you the first generation Isuzu Aska: With a 305 just pulling into shot The Aska, or Florian Aska, was a cousin of our Mk2 Cav, and closely related to the Holden Camira: (The wonders of Wiki) KJ
KruJoe
SO... six months after I promised, here are a few pictures from my week in Bangkok. "OLD MOBILE" ...beside... Old Corolla taxi, thru the bus window Complete with gold MB star on the grille: Soooo cool... But this Isuzu has got to be catch of the day: It isn't a Bellett or a Florian, is it? KruJoe
Hadn't noticed that, Andrew! And well done on your 'baying work this eve... Ratdat, you're a shite god - I'd never heard of the Bellel! That crazy yellow and purple thing is (was) a Datsun 521 pickup. T'was, 'til it had the back of one of these grafted on: (I wonder how they made the rest of the roof?) Sorry, forgot this one earlier: Doesn't that look like a Rover 400 from the back? ^ Nope, it's a Ford Laser XL, apparently. Another Oz one maybe, with Mazda DNA? KJ
r.welfare
Ford Laser is an Oz Escort, basically...although you are right it has Mazda DNA, as it's basically an 89-93 323. The Americans got this shape as an Escort as well.

Spottedlaurel
An excellent selection there KruJoe! KruJoe
Thanks for the input, guys! There truly is a preponderance of shite in this part of the world (or that, as me and Mrs KJ moved back to the UK in May). I was only photographing tat for the last 6 months of my years there, and there are still hundreds of un-posted spots. Now we are settling in back here, it would be a crime not to share the rest with you all... just a few at a time to allow for rumination. Waste not, want not etc. So, this next batch was snapped at a back-street garage in Chiang Mai, one that seemed to specialise in the slightly unusual... Anything interesting behind the umbrella? That's all for now. Anyone spot another guard cockerel? KJ
michiel
Hmm, can't see some of the last pics... Citroën GS behind the umbrella?
KruJoe
Yes and yes, Michiel. Stupid Photobox keeps giving me dodgy links - I always seem to be editing. And it's getting harder to use, I think I'll switch to Photobucket. A few more random spots from around Chiang Mai... ...and my choice for catch of the day: I suspect this was done without a hint of scene irony... Too cool for skool! KJ Edit AGAIN to fix the b'stard links Enjoy the pics
