THAT abandoned dealer again Swadlincole

Completely by chance I stumbled on this place today, I was dropping a truck off in Castle Gresley and had a quick blezz to find a petrol station, and couldn't believe my eyes when I drove past!! Since the pics above most stuff seems to have gone, the Skoda, Maestro and Rover are still there though, and it's looking pretty overgrown probably due to the shite weather. I didn't have a camera with me unfortunately. :(

Just as a matter of interest, and tbf this question should probably appear in the stupid question file, whats the craic if you buy a car that hasn't been declared SORN? Do the new owner cop for the back-dated fare or does that particular mill-stone remain with the previous delinquent?

So did anyone on here get the Astra or know what happened to it?

When the new log book arrives in your name, you simply declare it SORN. They cant chase you, the new owner for any back-dated fares as the car was registered with the last owner.

  • 5 years later...

I did indeed, it seems the mk2 Astra has now escaped as has the lada and the Skoda.

Here is what I found today...

Think it would take a huge effort to get a tune from this Maestro...

Quality repair...

Utter filth...

post-2711-0-78924800-1508703361_thumb.jpg

Poverty spec mk3 cavalier with the early front end. I noted that some scrotal wart had put one of the windows through on this one.

Next up is this sunken badge, again I'd guess at sales rep spec, but the wheels have been pinched along with the broken glass, it seems unlikely that this one will find a new home outside of a slow boat to China.

Near the office was this collection of miscellaneous wheel trims, only one of note, the others poundland plastic explodiums.

Some of the signage survives...

The office is looking rough though.

Here's a view you don't often see, these are around the back...

What I guess was an inspection pit at some point...

I doubt this bell tolls for anyone anymore.

Remember when these were a thing? I haven't seen one in years.

The site as a whole...

Thus concludes today's visit. Thank you for reading.

I do not get how they are still there now?....It is a shame that these are wasting away, I especially would love to save/take the Cavalier, but time, space & other financial constraints put the K.B on that idea.

Shame. I hope they all get saved in some way, more so the cavalier.

Impressive anything is still left so many years on from the first post.  Even though its wheels are gone and a window smashed, I'd still love to revive that big old Rover.  I'd even take a chance on that Maestro.  Sadly, it is not to be, too many other responsibilities.

I used to drive past this regularly, it's a bloody odd place for a car dealers too. Middle of nothing but a shoddy housing estate so no passing traffic.

Computer says no on the others that Ive tried apart from the Metro and the Skoda.

The Metro appeared out of captivity in some pictures by Billy-Medhurst on here from around 2013 but nothing since.

I cant find any record of the Skoda but it is taxed and MOT'd. It would be interesting to know who took it on.

Demolition imminent, I’d say. The fact that dickheads are now getting into the compound and trashing the cars isn’t going to help neighbour relations either. It’d be great to save something from there, even if only because the place and remaining cars are so infamous. I’m with Vulgalour on the Rover, although the Cav deserves a second chance, too.

I’ve just discovered this on pissheads. I reckon a brave volunteer with time on their hands needs to get em bought, back on the road and shared around as AS pool cars, run on donations... ;)

I'm sure I'm just regurgitating old news here, but I found photos of five more cars I wasn't aware we're ever in there that must have made it out.

- Green Beetle - DVLA says Untaxed since 1989

- White Renault Trafic(?) - couldn't find anything on this one

- Silver Vauxhall Belmont - Untaxed since 1998

- Red Rover 100 - Untaxed since 2007

- Blue Volvo - Untaxed since 2006

Chuffed to get an update on this. This place was frequently discussed when I first signed up to AS xxx years ago, and even then it seemed like it was living on borrowed time. The fact that it's still standing, and with some of the same cars there more or less intact so many years later is nothing short of miraculous.

Also worth noting how none of the cars would have elicited much excitement from me had I seen them on the road back then, but they are all now bona-fide Shite

Thats a power of work gone into the Skoda to get it roadworthy again. Can only be an enthusiast surely? Any car coming into the fold that has escaped from there will be instantly added to the Holy Grail.

Shame about the Rover 820. I've got wheels and could most probably get a rear window for that plus most other parts it might needo whoch probably won't be a lot. I just don't have the space or money :(

Looks like the Metro escaped in 2012. I managed to find an earlier ‘purchase options’ screenshot for the Rover.

Group buy for the remaining deviants needs to happen.

Im amazed that its all still there at all and not some sterile luxury housing scheme.

I wonder what became of the others that escaped. The MK2 Astra would certainly be of interest.

Mot check it and no record. Would be great to rescue something from here.

I think all three should be rescued and returned to the road.

Is the owner contactable?

Billy if you did buy it (the Cavalier) you would be my shite hero in triplicate. THIS is one for the field of dreams/profit/oil leaks.
