New vile frog-eyed sub-pub landlord tat

Check it - it's a 1997 Scorpio Ultima TDi, it's the first car I've ever owned with no blanking switches! Unfortunately it's started being GR8 4 CRABBIN with a rear hub bearing failure, hopefully that'll be straightforward to fix...

I feel like a bit of a pikey driving it around with NI plates and mismatched wheels, but that'll be sorted out soon.

Sticker is covering a crack in the bumper, are the bumpers on these as great for cracking as Mondeos? Front one is cracked too, but not badly.

'Ultima' luxury - it is quite a nice place to be despite all Ford's attempts to make it putrid

Check out the colour of the engine bay, it's white! The job looks to have been done to a reasonable quality though, so I don't mind it. Didn't notice it when I had a look around it at the seller's place though. :?

Splendid shiter! interior does look like a nice place to be, is the expansion tank supposed to be on top of the engine like that, or were you just resting it there while effecting some repairs

That's where it's supposed to be, bit of a strange place to put it like.

CAB-TASTIC! You might find those bearings need a press, I remember having the inlaws one done. Pretty robust - the last family one I drove had done 270k on its replacement speedo! I rember the matrix was an everything out job though. Never figured out why they gave them 4 stud wheels though?

Bejeezuz! A moighty foin yoke!Looks like a late one with the wider track and black headlamp surrounds. Loving the prestigious Norn Iron personal plate and wood effect plastic. Is this the same engine as the later Mark 3 Transit?

Yup. Had three of these, and all had at least one cracked bumper.

Nope. It's a VM lump, as found in Rover 825D and Chrysler Voyager among others.

I'll take a stance and say i really like these, the daft yank - moulding and scally - styling has won me over (black for me i think)... hmmm i can see an eghey purchase occuring..

It's fuel type is registered as Electric Diesel.

Congestion Charge exempt then? (Bit of a trek for you to find out, M-C).Loving this, utterly bizarre that Ford put such a rough old dog of a diesel engine (not saying it's not tough and strong, just an old design) into a Scorp' with all the bells and whistles. You'd have to be pretty mental to have chosen this over a 24v back in the day - unless you were the MD of a haulage or taxi company, perhaps (quick, check the V5 to see if Eddie Stobart himself was the first owner). I can however see the marketing sense in a boggo "taxi" version (like the earlier Granadas), complete with factory-option overflowing ashtrays. What do these bad boys do to the gallon? Are they GR8 4 VEG?Building up quite a collection of DERV tat, I like it! I can see the 623 still hiding in the background...

Diesel engine, resprayed from white....must have been a cab surely???I actually like these - not sure why but they look great to just waft along in.My mondeo ghia has that awful plastic wood dash thing, I keep threatening to change it to a black one or a silver one from an ST.

The engine is actually pretty decent, it's relatively refined for an old diesel and has loads of torque (220 lb/ft in the Scorpio). It's a bit more refined than the old XUD lump in the 405 I'd say.Not as perky as the lighter Rover 825D with the same engine though.Excellent for vegetable oil as it has a fuel heater built in! It has a fair bit of veg oil in it already and it started first time this morning.

I like them too. It's a car you would never have bought when it had any real value but now they are sub 500 quid they're worth a punt. If there are any left in 20 years time they'll be regarded with the same kind of ironic humour as the mark 4 Zephyr/Zodiac, another Turd from the Blue Oval.I have fond memories of C921GWL, a gloss black Scorpio 2.8i Auto. The most comfortable car I've ever owned.
