Hmm, quite a big box for a 1/43 model. Now remember, "mustn't buy any more GM tat, mustn't buy any more GM tat..."

IMG_20210807_114922.thumb.jpg.310f1fa06e3ee08e42dab8ac5769c646.jpg

Bollocks!

Nice posh box though. Must be something classy inside...

Oh.

IMG_20210807_141508.thumb.jpg.445f7f0b650cd4eebbeb6736c0f15d57.jpg

Not sure what we have here then, it seems it was a promotional pack given to Vauxhall dealers circa 2005 to mark the launch of the Astra H (Mk5), and the Vauxhall CDTi/Saab TiD diesel engines.

IMG_20210807_141522.thumb.jpg.7997d091bb3b26c61609701f2a7b040f.jpg

Seems an age away now, when high performance diesel engines were being heralded as the future.

IMG_20210807_141553.thumb.jpg.fd0f66fdd82b8a01d1c6f04f9a27cea6.jpg

So, to the model.

IMG_20210807_123017.thumb.jpg.dfd75450c3871b2385858b0fdddc7f7a.jpg

It's a good one, made by Minichamps. Slowly but surely I'm making my way through all the Astras and this fills a Mk5 shaped gap.

IMG_20210807_124229.thumb.jpg.dc94f8d0f63514f71d345879d881de07.jpg

I wanted this particular one, as this edition, with the presentation case is the only Minichamps version  I've seen so far in RHD, and badged and packaged as a Vauxhall. No model designation on it, but the alloys, rear spoiler and exhaust trim point to an SRi. 1.9 CDTi obvs...

IMG_20210807_123353.thumb.jpg.e2717d39fd0e122343c5cf00d4a36d82.jpg

IMG_20210807_123243.thumb.jpg.bb26ad16a613130e44db3b2b76c21b25.jpg

So, as you'd expect from a Minichamps model, it's well made, accurate and nicely detailed. Vanguards also did a pretty good Mk5 5 door, but this one has the edge.

IMG_20210807_123309.thumb.jpg.68f04080c6e1b6ad8185b62e6393517e.jpg

IMG_20210807_123650.thumb.jpg.cb35e5382bbf8b385dfb5c9ea52ee5b7.jpg

One detail that lifts it over the Vanguards version is the panoramic roof. Typically for a Minichamps model, the fragile roof aerial was a bit mangled but I managed to straighten it.

Even has a Sat Nav screen on the dash!

I was out and about today and visited Asda, Entertainer, Poundland, B+M, QD, Home Bargains and Tesco. All had Hot Wheels, none had anything new. Good job I had a @Datsuncogdelivery on the step when I got home!

This Corgi is a little bit of a mystery, being Mothercare branded but with a Domino's Toy Shop price sticker, but it has been opened so may not be a matching pair

I seem to have started getting a small hoard of Tonkas, this van is one of the smaller efforts, but unusually has a moving part

20210807_173012.thumb.jpg.b948d114f4e7bceb9ecacb955fa06ceb.jpg20210807_173029.thumb.jpg.62c2e8204ab4de300c8153e9bcce1621.jpg

I've had this one before but it went on to pastures new. Don't know if it's a Tonka or not and the base is pretty crusty

20210807_172800.thumb.jpg.837e1c3724428045304e086bb5b7848d.jpg

I also have one of these that I repainted but not with the ridiculous Carlos Fandango wheels. If it wasn't so rusty I'd leave it alone but the paint stripper beckons I think

This is a proper weirdo. Seen a handful of Matchbox copies, but this only gets the decals right and the casting wrong. Love it!

This is the prize though, I have to admit I didn't know about the Corgi Chrysler Imperial before DC posted a pic of it the other day, but it's a really lovely thing. Amazing that the side windows, folding seats etc have survived intact

Loving that! Dealer items that really are exclusive to that trade are quite rare. Great find. I've got a Vanguards Astra H and a 1/18 Welly one but the Minichamps is a new one on me.

My quest to declutter continues. This model tractor in a slightly worn down box, built in West Germany in 1988 was found at my late parents' house. I never knew anything about this, it was just sitting in their wardrobe. Didn't think it would be worth much, so I whacked it onto eBay last week for the starting price of £1.00. Sold for £78! :blink:B)
