The E-Type is the one I was informed was worth "over £100" at last week's boot sale - yours is in much better condition

It's the one I actually like! That's why it's not a play toy for my boy.

After a deeply annoying morning for anything Volvo related (V70 died a mile from the house, 164 died on its arse at auction shortly thereafter), it's very probably tempting fate to be sitting in the 740 to take these pictures but there we are. Not long back from the boot sale and while I didn't do as well as Bunglebus, it wasn't a wasted trip. Not really a fan of service vehicles but this seemed too nice not to pick up.

Score! That Corgi MK1 especially, I suspect the (Bond?) bobsled is a good 'un too

The seller had a big plastic tub of cars which he'd brought with him by mistake,he said he hadn't been through them yet & didn't really want to sell any.

He was happy to let these few go though. The Escort was in pieces & I had to look through to find all the bits. The bobsled is one I already had,but this one is better & has now got the plastic bumper fitted from my old one.

And to the next car boot where I found this20210502_143103.thumb.jpg.7962f7326e8e677006edfa5bc52bbe6b.jpg

I wouldn't normally buy a cheap Chinese version of a Mini, but it's got cats on it 😎.The only other thing I bought was the mug behind it,which Miss_155 said reminded her of me 🤔20210502_143112.thumb.jpg.55017dd383c6f0e75019d30756e0de94.jpg

This is about as early as I go in terms of interest in Dinkys, but it's in nice enough nick, is only missing one tyre and crucially was the one Studebaker I hadn't got.

There wasn't much else on that seller's stall of much interest, mostly Corgi Classics and three or four boxed 1:18 Buragos, but once he'd established I was after older stuff he rummaged in a box behind the table and resurfaced bearing this aloft. Not quite my bag but it's in good enough condition, glazing is unmarked and it's a pretty fine casting altogether. The biggest price tag of the day at six quid, if anyone fancies it I'm happy to rehome it.

I also picked up one of those today, but it was squashed with broken pillars, and in the "£2 m9" box. So it stayed there

I think I have some sort of mental illness. Just sorting my Matchbox to weed out any doubles, is this too many? 🙃

This was three quid but that seemed reasonable. No real damage apart from the blue light, I'd rather it was a civvy one but there aren't many Whizzwheels I like so it'll do until a bronze one comes along. Incidentally there was a chap at the sale this morning who could almost have been your double. If I didn't know the flux capacitor in your Passat wasn't working I'd have sworn it was you, I almost waved at him.

I now realise my diecast purchasing issues are relatively tame in comparison! 😅

It's good to go through them once in a while - that's when I notice there's another difference between red and black wheel Mod Rods for example

Mrs keeps saying she'd make a fortune selling them all for 50p each. I reckon she'd get mobbed.

She also came in while I was sorting them out and saying there were two the same, saw her eyes glaze over when I started talking about different colour bases, wheel types etc...

Here's the Polistil ovloV all done. My phone really doesn't like the white so had to mess with the settings a bit

Headlights aren't as good as I hoped, made out of plastic sheet, painted and pattern drawn on in pencil, then clear glue over the top to give the appearance of a lens.

This was the inspiration for the paint

Has anyone claimed this one yet?

I've been developing a deep appreciation for early Lesney King Size, and I haven't yet acquired this casting... good home assured, if you're happy to pass it on!

All yours! It does have all four tyres despite that picture of the base showing three.

Shame I forgot to change the Pro setting on my phone after photographing the Volvo though.

Odd things on the card behind the car:

I know for a fact given half the chance mine would chuck my old cars in the skip. She pretty much said this last week, I don’t know where else apart from the loft to store them where I know they’ll not get binned. The only alternative is taking the lot down to my dads but I don’t fancy a 520 mile round trip at the moment.

Found out what my Lone Star is. Mid-70s, slightly newer than I thought

I must be bloody lucky as my wife doesn't mind my cars as long as they're not everywhere. Toy room, my side of the wardrobe shelves, a few on my bedside table and the loft and we're good.

She even chuckles at the Cogboxes coming through the post. I advised her that these will be starting again in earnest.

It was a good 'un, for buses! I wondered if there's was anything there that might interest you; the GZK in particular seemed an unusual one. I'll take a look next week if the bus box returns, and see what's remaining.

I'd never heard of Checkmate before, but they all seemed to be individually numbered out of a production run of 1000 each, so I can imagine they're not as common as EFE/OOC stuff - especially not for £2 on a market stall.

Weird what shows up in this little corner of Belfast.

Possibly the most surprising finds yet. I don't even think Checkmate models were ever sold in the UK and the ones I have came from eBay sellers in Hong Kong so to find them over here at all is unusual, on a market stall priced at a pittance especially so! I wonder how they got there? It seems maybe someone moved from HK to NI and brought their bus collection with them.

Mine too, as I've said previously.  Every time something new arrives - literally every time - she goes into a cold strop and threatens to bin some of the existing stock.  Thankfully she hasn't yet, because I really don't know what would happen if she did.  Oh and she also lambasts me at every opportunity for the credit card bills, as if I do nothing on the cards but buy cars.  Well I don't, I use them for all kinds of "normal" purposes like holiday expenses (you try hiring a car in the US without one!) and vet bills, but of course she's not listening by then.  She also sees me posting boxes out to various Shiters from my sale stock, but can't equate that to reducing the numbers overall.  I've even got one earmarked for Mercrocker, formerly of this parish, to give him in person when we are eventually allowed to travel again.  His patience is worth so much more than postage...

She chuckles???  She's a keeper!

I have 7 of my 1/18s on open shelves downstairs, and the rest in four glass cabinets around the dining room.  Everything smaller lives upstairs in what once was the front bedroom, but is now my model room, library and office (my books are not allowed to live downstairs).  Nothing in the loft because the hatch is too small and too high up for me to get in there!

I mentioned what would happen if I 'went'

She burst into tears.  Not because of the thought of loss, but bewildered by the work she realised she would have to do to get rid of all the models!

Sure thing! They were £2 each, so will see what shows up on Friday, with any luck...

Oddly, the Bosch and the squarer of the two Bridgestone buses had no name whatsoever on the base, but they were very nicely detailed all the same.

It's quite possible - I know there's a reasonably strong link between NI and HK (for reasons no-one seems entirely clear about), so it's quite possible someone who travelled over there regularly picked up some bus models to bring home? Certainly unusual!
