See, it all makes sense now!

In a world where not very much is making sense, an anonymous parcel containing a Days Gone disguised as a haggis is probably the closest to sanity I've managed this week...

Well played, sir. Well played.

Can't believe I put a Days Gone in the fridge.

Oh I don't know...

I had no idea the lighting was so good for photos!

This could be the next big thing in eBay sales portfolios.

Getting back to reality, cheers all for the payments received for the most recent batch of mini-tat offloaded - my venerable spreadsheet's hit something of a glitch, so I'll be contacting folks with more detailed orders just to make sure I've got the right stuff packed for you before I hit the post office!

(My already old and senile laptop woke up thinking it was 23 September 1603, and for some reason my Tat Master Copy had reverted to a November version of itself).

You may also have seen the latest news...

Looks like we could be waiting a while for any new Market Tat, kids. Soz.

Goes without saying, if anyone's desperate for their Tat Box now to bust dem ol' Lockdown III blues, happy to get your stuff parcelled up and sent while I'm planning a Post Office run this weekend! Just hit me up and I'll check what I have you down for.

The trouble I had finding a Haggis in Essex, they don't roam free around here

You should have said, we're overrun with the buggers in Moray.. Mind you, they take some catching..

Word up Shiterz, I'm remiss of things to do temporarily, since I'm unable to travel to Auckland for work due to covid measures in place there. I've made some use of my free time but not as much as I should, as I keep getting side tracked with needless things, like this:

50949074371_476a20c106_b.jpg

Reading this charming tome, which dates from 2002. Except, as the top left of the front cover purports to, it may be a little older than that...

Anyway, within the pages are all sorts of of fabulous cakey ideas, every single one of which is slathered in inch-thick buttercream. Behold:

Nightmare doll.

Rickets bear.

Mechanic dog on curiously futuristic 16:9 telly.

But the subject which made me post here was this:

I've taken the liberty of uploading a larger res copy here, should anyone have shares in Stork and wish to make a copy. Beware though, the ingredients list is pretty substantial.

You'll need to be a Corgi and Matchbox enthusiast though to emulate this scene.

I think it's safe to say that this wasn't originally a 21st century publication.

Mrs warch was very pleased to see this, she is Australian and assures me that most of these cakes are a familiar fixture from childhood birthday parties. Her brother had the figure of 8 racetrack cake for his eighth.

Funnily enough, I have a vague memory that my Mum had a copy of this, or at least a similar tome, as I remember she made me a birthday cake, likely for my 8th or 9th birthday, of a boxy car, daubed in a very blue shade of buttercream icing. The wheels were those round liquorice 'catherine wheels' or some such and I remember making a mental note that them being tacked onto the sides of the body, rather than tucked beneath sponge cake wheel arches was not entirely accurate. Still, it tasted good and the leftover icing stayed frozen in a clingfilm parcel for years after. In fact, they still have the same Bejam chest freezer, so it may still survive!!

Should Mrs warch be craving some hearty Aussie tucker, I'd be very happy to post the book to you!

Looking for pics of my old birthdays cakes (failed) did ID one of my Christmas presents as a Nikko Mighty Ranger though, which seems to have been sold under various names

A CANCELLED TAT FRIDAY ALTERNATIVE EXPOSÉ

Lucky Toys No.3190 Made in Hong KongOh no, not more duff plastic cars  - I hear you say.  Well, tough... these are tough times!

Clearly a Volkswagen Golf Mk1, pleasing to see in 5-door guise for a change.  Sold either alone in various guises, or in this stickered 'Rallye Racing' livery from a set labelled 'Weekend'.  The Caravan style may look familiar to 1:36 Corgi afficionados.

32865767_s-l1600(3).jpg.ff0f601d2af4dc7473d95661db70eada.jpg

What we have here is a white example still with its (typically faded) stickers intact.

IMG_2599.thumb.JPG.817cb02990d349a18e834e6feec230fa.JPG

Spotted in a Hitchin 'antique bric-a-brac' shop cabinet, two summer's back.  Being in Hitchin, in a shop of that type, and not only in a locked glazed cabinet with a load of Dinky, it was bound to be at an inflated and non-negotiable price.  Being 40+ years old, things did not look good.

IMG_2602.thumb.JPG.a9ac5422a7112885ff1ad4ce9fdb0a7e.JPG

The  dreaded PRICE TAG ON STRING said £8.  But then, my french niece said over my shoulder 'that's you, that is' in her broken English.  It was fated.  £8 was paid up.  The parking was £4 anyway.

IMG_2603.thumb.JPG.27316d7439357d069e4d5f39c43a6ad4.JPG

The friction motor frictions and the opening bonnet opens, revealing perhaps an authentic modelling of the engine.  It measures to 1:29 scale and being a Lucky, the base is screwed home, not glued; so is perfect for what I had in mind (eventually).

IMG_2608.thumb.JPG.bff059415e1e00f3024e90f2ddf2359f.JPG

But what Ken and Dolly did do was take it away dogging camping for the weekend, complete with their matching Lucky Toys tent and dinghy on trailer.  The weekend went well, though Ken got a bit sore.

That's really nice, and Lucky stuff can get expensive especially with added VW tax. Hopefully your plans don't involve any irreversible body changes so it can go back to stock.

I have won what I believe is one of the more sought-after Lucky cars in a job lot for £not much. Pics when it arrives

Crumbs, another blast from the past.

I remember having a white Lucky Toys Golf, just the same as your own, only with the bonnet missing in action.

What I didn't remember was that I also had that slightly-elongated Corgi-clone caravan, too - which means that, once upon a time, I must have received the complete 'Weekend' set.

Pity they're now long gone, they look pretty good!

Cheers for the memory-jog.

Normally I find Matchbox stuff post 1990 utterly resistable but Eddy Ramrod's lovely Dodges posted yesterday made me have a snout down the toys aisle on an essential supplies mission into town earlier. Forres isn't a big place and its Tesco concomitant so this was all I found, nothing new but rather a nicely executed little thing.  CBFA to carry on to the big shop in Elgin this week.

I had no idea you were from Scotland

I used to live in Culloden many, many years ago but IV30 was where I worked around, as far east as Fochabers and as far north as Burghead.

I'm not, I'm an interloper.East Anglian and proud, been in Moray for the last three months, bought a place in Dumfries-shire which we'll hopefully be moving into the week after next. There's going to be a  dedicated small tat room..

Thank goodness for that! I found the place very isolated and was glad when I moved back down to the Central Belt.

Another ebay arrival yesterday...

2085922949_DC013.thumb.jpg.298c9e2b7b29429a1adac83e3767f06a.jpg

Sean Connery and Jill St John in Las Vegas.  It's not the old Corgi casting, which came as a bit of a surprise; I have a couple to compare.  One is the Century of Cars issue which has joined my "car show."

Two parcels to come, plus any I buy this weekend (I'm watching several).

Unfortunately not. Sounds like he's worked in casting alloy for years, but doesn't do plastic parts

Fits well, will need to be glued in place. I think originally it was struck underneath to expand the post, obviously didn't work too well going by how many fell off

Finally tracked down the Rainbow Toys MK3 Escort Cab

I'll have a rummage in the loft later and compare it to the Corgi/MC/Maisto one

It came with this Kidco Mustang - why they chose to give it an opening trunk rather than hood I don't know

Holy hell, I had that Nikko mighty ranger, just seeing it brought back the smell of warm plastic from the motor!

Mine died when the front suspension broke.

I have no idea where mine went. I have a vague memory of giving it an awful Humbrol repaint. Probably got chucked when I wasn't looking.

As for the Escort cabrios, 100% the same casting, with base evolutions. Only the MC has an interior as the Rainbow has a pull-back motor and the Corgi has the electronics for the lights and sound

When you say "not the old Corgi casting", do you mean the 70's one that was green with a white base, before being re-done in red? There's a later Corgi which is a different casting, and I think several variations with spoilers and bonnet etc, was discussed a while ago on here.
