Dubious no-name 'Trans-Am'; even more suspicious no name SUV with no clear idea what it's meant to be.

Matchbox Superkings trailer and Unimog load; another one I've had on eBay for 99p for months with zero interest.

Of course, I sold on my old Unimog before I found this...

And lastly for the Tat Boards...

Did anyone say they wanted this, in the end?

Half a Hongwell VW Samba, rescued from the tide - ideal boat conversion, yeah?

Free, of course.

[**TAKEN!!**]

And that wraps that up, for this evening anyway - cheers for the posts and messages, I'll update Tat Boxes accordingly!

Might request a colour chart off the local Sassenring dealership

I'll give them a ring.

Brunhilda on the reception desk got back to me and I went over (after getting a permit) to collect this

As usual I have a few 1:24/25 projects on the go at present, here's an update of what's keeping me busy:

1:25 AMT Cadillac Hearse kit

AMT Ecto 1A thing with extraneous rubbish removed, lots of holes filled and a wooden deck in progress. I've bought some more of those brass model boat fittings to make a rack for the roof. Started this one back in the '90s, it's sat in a box for some years (decades) with the '55 Chevy I recently completed. The Cadillac build stalled after I broke the glass, I recently bought another kit to replace it and the remnants of that one will be built as a banger.

1:24 Hasegawa Toyota Celica 1600GT kit

1:24 Hasegawa Toyota Celica 1600GT kit

Hasegawa Celica, came as a racing car with wide arches but all the parts to build it as a road car are included and as a near-stock build it's a much better proposition than the Aoshima offering. This one will be low and painted Citroen Mediterranean Blue, reminiscent of colours used on the early Celicas (and purchased cheap at Halfords).

1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit

1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit

The final build in the series replacing the batch which melted in the sun. I struggled with the silver colour and detail painting on this Skyline and decided to give the gunmetal a go as it reminded me of a 1:1 I used to see at shows. Even after the silver to gunmetal respray this one has fought me, I dropped it on the floor and picked up some chips which meant yet more paintwork was required, and there's still a lot of foil brightwork and dark grey detail painting to do. Hoping to get this one finished next weekend.

1:25 AMT Chevrolet Impala kit

AMT '67 Impala with Corvette LT5 engine (a much easier swap than when I did the same transplant on a '65 Corvette).

image.thumb.jpeg.2bb40669b7d8adce1c54455119bca14e.jpeg

Quite a bit of detail work to go on the interior. First time I've used metallic paint inside a car, without the clearcoat it's nicely replicated the look of the fancy vinyl they used back then.

1:24 Honda Today kit

1:24 Honda Today kit

Part-built Honda Today purchased off eBay some years ago (don't think I've ever seen an unstarted one on there, not at a reasonable price anyway). It came with the motor installed. It's spent several months in a tub of brake fluid and I've now got most of the brush-painted blue enamel off - the scribing tool came in useful to clean out the panel lines. This will be a quick, simple project for some point later in the year.

1:24 Nissan Leopard/Skyline kit

1:24 Nissan Leopard/Skyline kit

Slightly silly project that's been built as part of a community build on a model car forum, basically discreet, road legal race cars for a modern day Cannoball Run. A few people are building NASCARs with stock-ish bodyshells on them, I've gone for a Castrol Group N Skyline GT-R with Nissan Leopard bodywork, which I'm going to keep as standard and chintzy as I can. The Leopard was a personal luxury car based on Skyline R30 underpinnings, it's surprising how well the later R32 floorpan has fitted, just got to do a bit of work to keep the wheels under the standard arches..

I'm trying to limit my new purchases - with approaching 300 kits in the stash and at an optimistic build rate of two a month that'll still keep me busy for the next 10+ years......

I might utilise the odd bit of it, but most will be surplus to any requirements I'll ever have. Especially as I'll have two kits' worth of it......

I bought a toy car! I'm definitely blaming this thread for what i now picture as my inevitable decline into the world of glass-fronted cabinets, toy fairs and celibacy.

Anyway, this arrived to join my nascent 'why did they model that?' collection of 1960s-70s European toys. It's the Politoys Export Ghia V280 in fetching silver. This is a later issue with the ugly generic wheels, but even the older versions of this are pretty common in comparison to a lot of Politoys models. This was one of the cars that lived on in plastic form behind the Iron Curtain as a Novoexport toy. It must have been even more perplexing to yer average Ruski child, or perhaps one Western car looked much like another to young Igor and Sergei?

20210215_120731.thumb.jpg.4eb2b747d5d92ec5d0445ad0072c6d02.jpg

20210215_120744.thumb.jpg.ba05817427fd4e6bb3f6fc774a49852b.jpg

So, what is it? Well, it's one of the Chrysler-based, Ghia-built show cars which proliferated from the early 1950s until the end of the '60s. This one was a Plymouth Valiant in a party frock, as shown in 1964. It's not the prettiest Italian coachbuilt effort, and had limited exposure in period, which makes it doubly curious as a choice for a 1:43 version

The actual car (which survives in America) was painted a nice dark maroon, a colour which was available on the earlier Politoys toy, but annoyingly seems to be the most difficult version to find

Anyway, this one was cheap and in the UK so even though I wasn't actively looking for one, I'm quite pleased with it. It's a faithful representation, with a detailed dashboard, although the casting is a little rough round the edges I think the pressings were a bit worn out by the time this one was made. It's reassuringly weighty, too, and flies along on its suspended axles (not that I've been pushing it round my desk making brum-brum noises or anything, honest)

Schoolday.  I wonder where it is now?  Seems to have been brown in the 90s

Cracking Politoy, though, and cheers for the write-up; not one I was aware of at all!

(Also - were you interested in that French Dinky Citroen Ami I picked up last year? I seem to recall someone asked me for first refusal...)

They actually have a vague Fuchs look to them. Might be tolerable on a toy 911 or 916.

Called in Tesco again. Nada. I give up, I’m going to find a hobby that doesn’t involve wasting time trawling the aisles.

Bought a bare root Plum Tree instead.

Nothing new at all in my local Tesco on Saturday.I visited a different one today while I was working, they had the remnants of a new box,& a few of the British car series.

I did spot this playset which was quite interesting, didn't think we'd see those over here 20210215_143920.thumb.jpg.f0f71f341a7103b821f00acd099b74c6.jpg

Apparently they are really good sellers. Such to the point according to the staff that they sell out on the day! Anyhow I can’t be arsed to devote much more time to these early morning raids on Tesco, in fact the lack of diecast buying activity is probably a sign waning my interest in them, even old tatty ones seem to be going for mad money on eBay. Perhaps it’s time for me to crystallise my investments and cash in on them by wanging them on eBay.

I forgot to post that I’d received the Sentron-9.

Apart from the faded box it’s pretty mint!

Unfortunately the seller forgot to mention the broken wire on the 9v connector ☹️

Definitely  an easy fix that. If the electrics aren't rusted and fragmented inside you've done well.

Word up Shiterz, I'm remiss of things to do temporarily, since I'm unable to travel to Auckland for work due to covid measures in place there. I've made some use of my free time but not as much as I should, as I keep getting side tracked with needless things, like this:

50949074371_476a20c106_b.jpg

Reading this charming tome, which dates from 2002. Except, as the top left of the front cover purports to, it may be a little older than that...

Anyway, within the pages are all sorts of of fabulous cakey ideas, every single one of which is slathered in inch-thick buttercream. Behold:

Nightmare doll.

Fat turtle.

50949173142_8b774c0bc5_b.jpg

Oblong mouse on rug.

Rickets bear.

50948369423_77760861d5_b.jpg

Mechanic dog on curiously futuristic 16:9 telly.

But the subject which made me post here was this:

I've taken the liberty of uploading a larger res copy here, should anyone have shares in Stork and wish to make a copy. Beware though, the ingredients list is pretty substantial.

You'll need to be a Corgi and Matchbox enthusiast though to emulate this scene.

I think it's safe to say that this wasn't originally a 21st century publication.
