Well I suppose green the same as the real thing - who knows why Dinky changed it to blue.

My problem is what wheels to use, got nothing the right size or style at the moment

I have a few dinky cars - however it's the sci fi stuff - especially Gerry Anderson - that I really like.20200929_205420.thumb.jpg.a3608c99dd60eb9cf56b46a6f17e9d4e.jpg

Until tonight I never knew that the plastic beams, nuts and bolts that I owned as a very young boy was Mecanno. I played with that a lot, mostly making cars, tractors and once my dad and I built a really big electricity pylon with a woollen 'wire' powering our television.

Mixed in with the Mecanno was another set which had slightly bigger pieces and bolts but the 2 fitted together.

I'm not allowed to visit my parents any more due to local lockdown restrictions in place so I can't check the loft. As they're both in their 70s I'm not going to send them up to crawl around and look for it but I can't imagine it would be something worth selling and I wonder if it's still there!

I might still have some of that too, and some of the metal variety.

I sold mine on eBay years ago, and then had to post a stupidly heavy box...to Australia.

Dinky 'Emergency!' Paramedic truck.  I knew nothing of the TV series or the  1972 Dodge D-300 model

I don't remember the TV series either, but I once had the Dinky Dodge (with bowed axles and missing accessories):

DSC_5230.thumb.JPG.96dee277a64b8de369003f65179359dd.JPG

Bought it when I was about 11 or 12 from a guy outside an auction one winter night. I'm not sure why, as I never liked it all that much... the prototype looks better, somehow. I think I must have sold it on about ten years ago.

I don't think the Fire Chief version of the Plymouth Gran Fury ever appeared on the shelves either - cheers for those trade catalogue scans, that's very interesting to see the might-have-beens from Dinky's last days...

Oh I didn't scan them, I found them tucked away in downloadable form, within the depths of a t'interweb Meccano interest group

So what colour should any Steed Jag homage be? Lots of different shades!

Contrast is all over the place on film, most footage looks too dark a green.  I chose this colour from a publicity still.

Well, I say 'chose', that was the choice made when I thought the @155V6 chassis-less one might be up for grabs, but have since found out it's already on the way to @bunglebus towers...  Gah!   This thread moves too fast for little old me

Anyone else got a surplus half-dead Dinky Jaguar XJ 'Big Cat' ?  To me it looks so much sleaker than the Corgi effort, almost Gerry Anderson

Definitely some want for the Civic, Capri and BGT. Sadly my local Tesco, who could once be relied upon for a good supply have now stooped to putting only one or two of each (MB and HW), on the shelf, housed in a big clunky plastic security case. Last time I looked it was a VW Trekker, some road sweeper thing and two of the  HW Go Pro things. Shit!

Hasn't stopped the pilferers from having a go at the 5 packs that are hanging up above them though...

So sadly it looks like I won't be getting hold of any future Matchbox stuff.

Posted

I gave up with the big Tesco around here, it's a bun fight and the non-food aisles are a mess.  The staff can't be bothered

Last time I was in there over a month a go, the HW and MB trays were empty

Posted

I think they’ve obviously got supply issues in the U.K. I’d probably go as far as to say they’ve probably been discontinued and it’s old stock.

Sorry folks, not enough hours in my day this week.. I'd swear there's withdrawal symptoms emerging as a result of two Wednesdays with no rooting through fucked and filthy old diecast wreckage. It is just me and the dog at home tonight though so I might rummage out some of the stuff you haven't seen before after dinner. Not that there's much of it really, it's more an opportunity to get it all out on the kitchen table without feeling an odd pang of guilt. Morris won't tell..

What's a Rhino Rod when it's at home?

Matchbox from the mid 90’s, it was err basically a rhino with wheels. If I find one in the loft I’ll take a picture.

Part of a group of “Animal Cars” that included a bumble Bee and a RotWheiler, and they caused quite a stir amongst Matchbox Collecting purists. They we seen as the beginning of the end of Matchbox, because they feared more of these Hot Wheels like fantasy cars. As it turns out, the outcry was heard, and MB didn’t produce any more of these. Since most of them went to kids, and not collectors, they are now getting harder and harder to find, particularly in their original packaging. [source: the Internet]
