Ah shame, I know there are some other makes mixed in so will have to have a closer look when I do end up with them, which might be some time

Years ago I bought over a thousand of the buggers for an average of 50p each, took me the best part of a year to flog em on markets and toyfairs

In other news, I recently bought a small haul of Corgi cars that were part of the huge BP promotion in about 1988. One example was a Jaguar XJ-S which has a metal base and a full interior. I also have a much earlier one with opaque windows, no interior, a plastic base and suspension. Its also a 'Juniors' version as opposed to a regular Corgi.

I have never seen another Corgi like the early one I have, other than a Starsky and Hutch Ford Torino. Anyone else have anything like this?

There are loads of versions of the XJ-S,I've just had a quick look in my junk box & I've got both the versions you mention, plus the Corgi Juniors version but with clear windows & interior. There is a rare custom version with jacked up suspension & sidepipes  .The same goes for the Volvo 245 & Ford Capri, there are so many variations that no-one seems to know all of them.

- bit like that SSK-piped Dinky Minx of Junkman's.

Ironically, that thing acquired some sort of cult status among the hardcore Dinky geeks.

You couldn't make it up.

Thanks 155, I will have a look now. I have 2 versions of the 245, one a Juniors one and the other a newer corgi with no suspension.

Hi 115v6

Thanks for the link.

I had no end of Corgi Rockets and track as a kid and sold them off in 2000 at a toy fair in Ingliston.

Some were still in their bubble packs and a Jenson was unopened.

Suppose they are sort of rare with only having a short production run.

Some more 1/72 JDM stuff from Hong Kong. Real-X stuff is great and it's a shame it's so hard to get hold of. The Skyline RS Turbo is my favourite.

Love those! I really need some more Japaneae cars in my collection, its one area where I have very little coverage.

Just ordered one of these for the brother-in-law Christmas present, thought it was fair value - £27 for a 1/12 scale kit is nowt. And to further annoy him, I've driven the exact same Shelby too (albeit for 15 minutes!)

In the process of organising my matchbox collection. Historically I've had them in sections of emergency vehicles, sports cars etc... Now can't make my mind up whether to put them together according to make eg Matchbox, corgi etc... God what a pedantic life I must lead!!!

Saw Amalgam stuff on a Jay Leno's Garage vid. Ouch when it comes to price

Someone crudely glues the guts from the back end of a lledo wrecker onto a Batmobile after painting it yellow? WTF?

Posted

A chap I know has all his matchbox collection categorised by year.

Not sure I could be arsed with by order of year. I wouldn't know where to start. Purchased the Charlie Mack book other week to catalogue what I've got. They are mostly worthless but I enjoy doing it so I'll carry on. Might do it by decade, that should be easy enough.

Yeah, bloody ace!

Why don't I ever get such brilliant ideas?

If the real Batman wanted a wrecker he might like this....

Here's a stupid question ,but related to models.

What's this code 3 business? I see it quite often on eBay when somebody has painted or modified an old Dinky or similar.

Is there a code 1 and 2 ?

Posted

Code 1 is as issued by the manufacturer eg standard issue. Code 2 is altered by a third party but with authorisation of the original manufacturer, Code 3 is altered without prior consent of the manufacturer - such as the bat mobile above.

These would have been the creme de la menthe of Matchbox cars in about 1989 - Laser Wheels

I presume Laser Wheels has one or two of those.

Also I had no idea they did a Laser Wheels Sterling. That's uncredible.
