Next up, another request - this time from @bunglebus, firmly riding the wave of VW 1600 love that's been recently manifest.

Excellent thank you - base will probably go on the pink one and the body on a spotlight-deficient base as a custom. Or it'll replace one in my collection if it's better

Smashed up box with Hermes tape does not bode well

20200807_175727.thumb.jpg.1265fa9041f5c3788aac157042857da8.jpg

Contents were not exactly well packed, but the few I actually wanted have survived; Fandango is usually seen in blue

The other one wasn't very clear in the pics but I took a chance on this Siku Transit

More than anything as a door donor

Bonus cars include this Conrad Sciricco which is sadly missing a headlight and tailgate

And this horrific Corgi - anyone know what this one's all about? Base says copyright 1989 Turner Ent & WMG ARR.

The rest are too awful to even take pictures of

If you do use the Transit as a door donor,I've got this one which could use the other door ?20200807_184353.thumb.jpg.a88371c63e280122b8e21fce432e7139.jpg

Excellent, I don't like the idea of it going to waste. Looking inside, the one I've just found used to be orange anyway. Don't you think it's odd that Siku put the side door hinge where you can see it through the front window?

Seeing @Datsuncog Mobil Corgi BMW I thought I’d confess a guilty secret with Mobil Corgi’s.... I couldn’t (still can’t!) pass one without buying it - and even back in the crazy priced die cast 90’s I never spent more than £6 on one!

The Astra’s in particular seemed to follow me home ?

The set were made end in England by Corgi in the late 80’s and featured 6 regular 1/36 models and 6 specific models. All achievable by buying enough 4 star by the gallon to get a model/fuel a battleship.

The Blower Bentley and the Type 35 Bugatti are diecast with plastic bases and specific plastic wheels. Note the difference in size which is fairly accurate in real life!

The F1 Benetton and Auto Union streamliner are similar construction:

The final two models are my favourites - The GM Astra and the Volvo White truck.

Now as far as I know these castings never got recycled in the Corgi Range (or elsewhere) and both are very well proportioned, bar the overly raked windscreen. The Astra has individual bumper rubbers, front and rear lamps and even the petrol cap they fitted! Left hand drive sadly ?

These models are 30 years old, and available boxed for £5 still ? for £60 you could have a nice little collection.

I’ve got one of those Mcvities Escort vans, I think they were a cancelled order, mine was new old stock that had been in storage 20 years until a model shop in Cheltenham had picked up a job lot of them.

Same here. Always wondered the story with it. I bought mine for a very reasonable price a couple of years ago on ebay. The seller had a pretty much endless supply of them from what I remember. Whatever the case, it's going nowhere!

Those Mobil corgis look terrific, especially the Astra. Have there been any other similar promotions at petrol stations recently? It isn’t something I’ve seen for a long time

Tons of play value in those earlier ones! I don't recall ever not having one in my life.

I didn't know that the Astra plus another 5 were specific to the Mobil offer. Corgi really maxed out on the promotional models back then, they were almost omnipresent. BP, said Mobil, Weetabix, Frosties, Duckhams oils, Golden Wonder and so on. Great times as a kid, urging the driver to brim the tank and get another token.

Same here, I had the hotpoint one and the AA van as a kid. Keep looking for a nice Gas van as I remember them like that.

Don't bother with these potless years, they are the number one reason I stopped going to Swapmeets.

Try and find a stall that has a normal looking person, under about 50-looking whose stock gives the impression they are clearing out toys that their children have grown out of.

Truly a man of my word I’m getting dragged to the car boot later I’ll update with my findings.

Had a decent haul at the car boot. One idiot wanted £4 on a broken Shelvoke and Drewry wagon, the back was missing and the cab windows were missing. I’d asked as if it was comedy cheap I could have re used the cab. What planet are people on?!
