Much excite. Tracked down not only a really good Majorette 1302 with the opening bonnet

But also the elusive gold version of the Hot Wheels Blazin' Bug - had a white one as a kid and I've had half a dozen since trying to get a great one, but this colour always escaped me

Best of all is this though, listed as "Ford Zepher Car", it's a Dinky Zodiac, and other than the Alan Mann inspired paint, is in great shape. Careful paint removal and resto for this I think, just needs two jewel headlights. Four opening doors as well as boot and bonnet, detailed engine and spare tyre, and the steering front wheels. I practically stole this due to the poor listing.

That was a good buy as miraculously everything is intact despite the paint. That will look nice once you have finished the restoration.

One of these is on my list to get!

Liking that ^

For what it's worth, Tesco are doing 3 for 2 on Hot Wheels and Matchbox. Hopefully they'll sell lots and restock

Another lockdown project completed, brought down some of the cars my dad and 2 uncles had as boys. Quite a few still have their boxes.

I restored the Pathfinder in 1994 in Ford Sunburst red and it was my second ever attempt at this. I think it turned out OK. It is this Ford colour because my first ever attempt the week before was a Whizzwheels MK1 Escort.

There are also a number in this picture which I bought at Swapmeets in the 1990s when I was still collecting similar Dinkies and Corgis.

Thanks. No, I still use aerosols - mostly Tamiya TS. I have a lot as I bought a couple of batches off other people, and I can still get them at a couple of local model shops (well, I could before the current situation). Occasionally 1:1 automotive paints if I'm after a particular colour.

Most of the colours I use get finished with TS-13 clearcoat, and then polished with varying grades of Micromesh followed by T-Cut and whatever car polish I have on the go.

I don't think I'd be good at cleaning an airbrush up so it's something I've steered clear of. I'll be interested to see how you get on though, maybe I should rethink.....

So far it's far easier than I thought it was going to be. I watched a couple of tutorials on the youtube prior to trying it out for real. I'm amazed at how little paint the smaller gravity fed brush uses, literally a dollop on a brush, and 50% thinners and you can paint  a fair amount, I'm using around 20psi which gives an even cover. The skill is more in the distancing of the brush which avoids splatter etc.

You can mix paint in the tank to apply highlights or hints, by just adding a little alternate colour to adjust.

I've been using Tamiya acrylics which are waterbased, so cleaning is a doddle. They really are not that complex, I just use windowlene to clean with - important that its a no ammonia brand as that can damage the seals in the brush.

I need to order some clearcoat for finishing off, but at the moment getting any online seems to take forever.

Nice going! That Dinky Holden is a particular honey, as are the Vauxhalls.

+1 on the use of spare Corgi Classics self-adhesive number plates, in an effort to achieve greater realism... just like I did.

The only real swapmeet I ever attended was an annual model railway exhibition down in Bangor Leisure Centre, held about Easter time. Although it was mostly railway layouts and vendors selling 00 gauge stuff, there were about three fellas selling diecast too.

It was pretty much the highlight of my year... but even though I would save and save for much of the year, the prices asked were usually way out of my league.

@Split_Pin - Love the 1.18 Peugeot 407!

I decided to do a very half-arsed feature of some of the 1.24 models I have here:

Schabak Sierra and Motor Max Focus:

20200517_171131.thumb.jpg.bfb16f44399c479dbe15b86579868871.jpg20200517_171206.thumb.jpg.f46fd751c213a9548a0a67be86e58dae.jpg

Sierra was bought off eBay years ago when I first started earning real money and opened an eBay account. The Focus was bought new from some toy/model shop, but I don't remember exactly where I've had it so long. Its quite a nice model, very detailed for a 1.24 and the proportions are spot on.

Burago 924 and No Name 928 S4 Porsches:

20200517_171236.thumb.jpg.af9223c40bca8cc9166565299c3e0209.jpg20200517_171317.thumb.jpg.6bd983a8c2a7691d9a12a471c0d38757.jpg

Silver one was an eBay jobbie. The lights were painted I guess by some model enthusiast, in fact the model may have originally supposed to have had decals but it looks nice like this. The no name 928 S4 is strange, again a newly bought jobbie from somwhere I can't remember. Despite not having a name it does seem quite a nice model, detailed, heavy in weight, good proportions but the wheel face are little more curved than they should be.

Guiloy Peugeot 205 and Astra GSi 16v:

20200517_172416.thumb.jpg.20a0a1aaf291a3e15ac5d4c0a32b2bdb.jpg20200517_172839.thumb.jpg.aa82505c8e88014973de0dc539e23748.jpg

I first saw/heard of these models way back when the millennium was still new. I was living in Belgium and saw these in a toy shop at a shopping mall in Woluwe in Brussels. I bought them years ago when I was earning as I'd remembered them from the Woluwe shopping mall.  The cars are fairly good, the paint is fabulous, really smooth and shiny, but the details are pretty rubbarsh. I had to paint the grille and side quarter window finishers in black on the Astra and the rear panel on the Peugeot black to make them a little more realistic. The wheels are nice and faithful to the real things.

Guiloy Mercedes 500 SEC, Burago Mercedes 190 and Burago Landrover Freelander:

20200517_172910.thumb.jpg.be00149ab4845df5396d6229c5ca6a4d.jpg20200517_172929.thumb.jpg.2bd812104e6053fae5430fa29be28dc3.jpg

The Guiloy Merc SEC is another example of Guiloys' ways of looking at cars; proportions are Ok, the interior has plastic seats but is actually painted in some fabric-looking like material to give it the look of fabric seats. The paintwork isn't as fabulous and full if lacquer but its a lot better than most of the other 1.24 models I have.

The Merc 190 was a cheap eBay-bought jobbie. A bit worn and purchased because £cheaps after remembering that my original Belgian-bought one was probably long lost by now.

The Freelander was bought at a car boot sale in Carcassonne in Languedoc in France when I lived there. I have its Range-Rover counterpart somewhere so why not.

Some, all or hopefully none of you may remember this sad old jobbie:

A Polistil (by Tonka) 1.24 Volvo 740 GLE. Given to me by someone years ago.

The Volvo was broken, dusty and dirty but still mostly there. Strangely, it has silver-painted wheels on one side and unpainted plastic grey wheels on the other, I've never understood this. The wheels can't be changed over ir removed from the axles as they are 'pinned' in ala: Matchbox wheels.

I started to restore the Volvo but had little time patience. It sat in the corner collecting dust and looking sad so today I decided to what I could do. I took it apart again and cleaned the interior of all dusty, even stuff I'd missed out last time. It had a rear lense missing so an red cable tie and some superglue came in useful here:

20200517_152843.thumb.jpg.f2614fbdddd903585e91e900ffc9e5ac.jpg

The drivers door was hanging off badly because of a snapped nub that held the door in, I don't have a drill to be able to drill out the snapped bit in the car so I'll have to do that another time;

20200517_152952.thumb.jpg.f03ea7403713828e00a5532f74fd7cd0.jpg

The nub here is in place being held with gorilla glue which was about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. It fell off even after being held in for a couple of hours.

It looks a tad more presentable now:

More lockdown nonsense, a quick play with the Lego before it got taken back out to the shed. Master SL had made an old Technical Lego tractor I had when I was young (basically an MF 135). I undertook an easier project:

Should be set 690 which I got when I was 4-5, but I couldn't face going through eight large boxes to find all the parts required so it got modified slightly, still with mostly period correct pieces.

Unearthed this Carrera set when we had a tidy-up in the shed, of use/interest to anyone on here?

I bought this one lightly started, so I didn't have to assemble the loadbay. Quite neat and positive how the main pieces fit together, but I did scribe-out the panel lines as they were rather shallow. It appears one headlight has gone AWOL, but I'm sure I can find something spare in another kit.

Let's of lockdown goodness going on in here today!

@Lord Sterling I love those Guiloy models. I have a 1/18 Sierra XR4i. It's crude in every way from the unbelievable metallic beige to the furry interior butI love it!

The 407 is actually 1/14 scale and is a radio controlled toy by Rastar. I saw it in TK Maxx in 2013 and just had to have it. Amongst the 911d and Veyrons it looked such an unusual subject. I wonder if it was discarded dealer stock?

It actually makes a lovely display model and is really nicely detailed.

Oh!  Glad I read this as tomorrow was going to be a day of dip for some 'glass' from the sixties Corgi range.

Which was the one that spoiled and how?

Heh, this is the exact same question that's vexed me for many a long year, starting with my dented 1/43 Land Rover...

Funny you should post that, as I (after 40 year hiatus) have stripped and painted my Nan's old Corgi Land Rover to body-in-white.  I say my Nan, what it was is she had a box of toys she would get out for her grandchildren to play with.  When she died I 'took them on'.

I had not spotted until now the earlier girder type bumper compared to your Whizzwheels era one.  As it is damaged (and always was IIRC) I had pondered snapping off the remaining bumper parts to tidy it up.  But glad I didn't, if it makes it an earlier casting that just needs a bit of bumper 'letting' in.  Did they come with interiors?  It's missing.  I was going to just reuse the original 'glass' that has been smashed on passenger door - but I'll best just cut it tidy so it remains an open window

image.png

image.png

More importantly, it was yellow with a black roof (barely any paint left though) - so what should it become now I wonder?  Was there a 'famous' LWB Land Rover Series on in a TV show or feature film?  Doesn't seem to feature highly on IMCDB but I did find elsewhere this still from Born Free
