Shite in Miniature II

Interesting that they didn't declare what nationality of Monza that model represents. It's a Chevy, of course, somehow in IMSA spec yet with a full road car interior. What a fascinating model.

Wow! Somewhere in my box of childhood diecasts in mother's house is a Toyota Celica A40 liftback, in that scale with those wheels, never knew it was a Zylmex.

Will case Q hit Tesco - nothing new today?

Very unlikely as they have been on the '2020' case range in recent months

....or were, as the Tesco's aisle in my town has had no new MB stock in weeks. The box is desolate and the five packs cleared early November (despite the price hike)

Don't be! Looked through my messages but couldn't find it. Still want the black one and ideally the van it hides inside

ovloV is RHD so lends itself to customising as a stock version, if that's your bag

HW Case C

Quote from designer Rui Asada, Hot Wheels Design Team lead at Mattel:

Quote

This casting is non-specific version so it’s technically not an R nor a race car, but we’re hoping we can maximize the deco variations with this one casting, non-race, or race versions.

So this implies 2020 will see road car paint variations. So don't paint over your 850 just yet!

I love this livery as its evocative of the 1990s touring car version which I loved.

Got the Tamiya kit 850 Turbo I built in 1995 down from the loft for company.

That's a superb looking kit, well done. Needs some stickers on the back to troll the unwary, e.g. National Trust, the Christian fish symbol or Caravan Club.

It was this very car that influenced the model :

Jan Lammers and Rickard Rydell debuted the 850 for the 1994 BTCC season as the 'Volvo 850 Racing' team

The reason for the estate body was the bodyshell offered by Volvo as it was the first one facelifted. Only when they compared in a wind tunnel did they find the estate body had better rear downforce. Apart from that, Volvo were very keen as the marketing potential was huge

Volvo returned for 1995 but with the saloon body and a big rear wing

That and the fact that a Volvo estate kicking everyone's arse was superb

Definitely a crowd favourite, but in reality Volvo came 8th

This fella and this brand won both the Driver and Constructor championship for 1994

A project on the house has, as usual, snowballed into something slightly bigger and the need to fit new* carpet into the spare room means I've got to pack up all the display cases.

State of play before being dismantled:

As the display cases are apart I want to get some extra glass shelves made to put in there - more room is needed!

I have created my own tat boxes to pick through when it goes back together again.

Had this oddity since new, bought at a toy shop in Aylesbury I believe. When I got it I was disappointed to see they'd put the glass in back to front, but I never attempted to rectify it:

*When I say new carpet, this being AS I mean remove the current carpet that is four pieces of crudely fitted remnant leftover from our previous house, and replace it with a piece of the old living room carpet we replaced 2-3 years ago.

I drove down Grahams Road in Falkirk a few weeks ago and noticed that McLaren Models, what would have been the last Model Shop in the town has now closed. It was a famiky run business and must have been there for nearly 50 years. They moved to a bigger premises across the road from their original shop in around 2000.

I started going in the late 1980s as they sold proper models and my first from there was a blue GAMA Audi 80 B3.

I used to earn £15 per Saturday in Mclaren Transport HGV workshop and I went straight to the model shop in the afternoon. £9.99 for an EFE bus and £5 in the tank of Mum's Fiesta for Saturday night

Latterly though the shop only stocked expensive models and I hadn't been in years.

Still sad though.
