Were Zee Toys officially sold in the UK? I picked up a few examples yesterday and didn't know what they were until I did some research.

Yes - they had a range of diecast aircraft called dyna flites that were pretty good.

I think I've got a full time obsession now.

It's quite something seeing how the Solido line descended into more child like content in the 80s.

I've now started looking at some of the fascinating Vitesse releases of the 90s, some proper fancy (mainly Renault) releases.

In the post I've got (all boxed) Mebetoys 131, Polistil 127 and a Maisto Marea Weekend.

Beetle update!  I had a minor issue in that the lacquer is very orange-peel (ironically) and to fix it, I'd have to repaint the whole thing.  I cannot be arsed, because the Beetle looks fine sat on the shelf, so I'm leaving it be.  I'm not risking polishing it, that's never gone well for me before.  So, instead, I got most of the brightwork installed ready for the next round of detailing once it's all dried, which will be things like the front indicators and running boards.  I also cleaned up the rear lights so those are correct now, and full-red since it's US spec rather than EU spec, i'll probably leave the towel rails on the bumpers for the same reason.

I'm really happy with how the wheels turned out and that I went for the two-tone, it looks right. I have some chrome paint to clean off the back window, while installing the windows I managed to pick up a spot of chrome paint that hadn't dried from somewhere and splodge it all over the rear screen and didn't realise until I'd finished sticking it in.  Cotton bud and some purple meths will sort it, thankfully.

Love the Beta Coupe in that haul.

As a boy in the early/mid 1970s, as Dinky got cruder and Corgi got larger I started collecting Solidos (Maserati Indy and Alpine Renault being two of my favourites).

Y0 Bramz thats a cracking haul there. Solidos are winners, I can't understand why examples from that era aren't more collectible as they are well made with very good detail. I was excited back in 1990 to get a MIB Renault 12 Break as it had the MK1 front on it and weirdly, I remember it was quite expensive.

Is that a colour change Sierra?  It looks like one.   Nice XM too, looks like Max Power was consulted for colour choices there.

The Sierra is a Maisto/MC Toy,so not sure, but I've put it in the fridge to see if anything happens ?.

I think the 205 May be one of the range aimed at girls?

Time for a loaf tin update which I've now got about as far as I can before decals are applied.  All the glazing has had the frames blacked, and here's a look at the tiny detailing on the steering wheel I'd mentioned before.

IMAG2911.thumb.jpg.84549f73b72da923e3aa267adb4f3954.jpg

I got the four separate shocks and the exhaust fitted before glueing the chassis to the floor.  I still can't get over how detailed the underside of this kit is for the scale.

IMAG2912.thumb.jpg.e080f04866e3b419a00da46cd960778e.jpg

For the wheels I chose a flat grey with black plastic hub caps as this seems to be an option on these vans and compliments the grey-blue bodywork.  The interior is almost entirely exposed painted bodywork, with the exception of some vinyl on the seats which I've done in grey, again to compliment the other colours and since black didn't look quite right on this van.  The door panels are body coloured and the furniture is black, as per the real thing.  The dashboard I did the dials in plain chrome until I found out there's actually decals for the dial faces in the kit so I'll be making use of those.

IMAG2915.thumb.jpg.488623815763f2dbab0fc2e8a34c5f3a.jpg

My lighting washes the colour out a bit, makes it look more primer and less blue.  It's like a faded RAF blue in person.

IMAG2916.thumb.jpg.b62e14da3256bc0273a1267651a5535d.jpg

Finally, I wanted to give some sense of scale with this kit so here's a shot of it with the same scale Princess from Heller, and the much larger scale Tamiya Beetle I've been working on recently.

Building this kit I've been looking at the doors and thinking about making them openable.  I reckon I'm going to have to get another one and have my first go at cutting panels out and making hinges, it's too tempting not to!

Talbot for me please! My eyesight wasn't letting me identify it earlier. It'll go well with my R18 from the same series.

Yes please, if you've still got it!

Both models reserved, gents!

I just twigged over the weekend that the Caddy Hot Rodder is nearly fifty years old.

From the present day, it's comparably as old as the pre-war Dinkys I was gawping at in the late 1980s. Lawks.

It really does look very fresh, all things considered.

If anyone ever finds a non-rodded original casting and doesn't want it, I'd be interested...

12498720_CorgiJuniorsCadillacEldorado.thumb.jpg.bd9b3480c837d2aad9d170f81a6152fc.jpg

The nearest I ever came to one of these was finding the bonnet of one in a box of junk.

Same metallic green as the above, and no identifying marks, but at the time I knew it was off a Corgi (somehow) and was also something American.

As alluded to last week, there's still a lot of small Corgis and things like Impy Flyers that I just don't know about  (that VW Microbus of BB's is fantastic) - it's odd that very few Matchbox toys are new to me: even if I didn't have them myself growing up, I usually recognise them from friends' toy boxes or seeing them at jumble sales and whatnot.

But Corgi - nope, still finding castings I never knew existed.

I stumbled upon a 1980s-made Mercedes 'Gullwing' 300SL the other week. Juniors scale, with opening doors and all. I had a bigger 1/35ish version when I was little, but never knew they produced a smaller scale version.

Don't know whether Lesneys just sold in bigger quantities so there were many more of them in circulation, or whether I just have a blind spot for Smol Corgis... making up for it now, though!

Also some new arrivals in the form of a box of delights courtesy of Burnside Motors, late last week... tasty.

They look black, but they're both actually very very very very VERY dark blue.

Apart from some newish Hot wheels or buckets of filthy, battered Lesneys, there is normally SFA at the car booty local to me. I have acquired the occasional bargain but it is rare.

What did you get?

Wait and see my friend! At work at the moment so I’ll upload tonight when I get in
