Safely procured (though I had to glare at a small child until he dropped it back in) - while it's daylight robbery at a fiver, for 50p it's not so bad... hopefully you'll be able to do something with it!

Thank you. I feel bad for the kid now!

Aw, he was getting a load of tractors bought for him - he'll be a happy enough chap tonight!

So here's your Mercury Commuter, along with some other ex-50p box residents I picked up for no particular reason - including this Dinky De Tomaso Mangusta, missing its bonnet lid but otherwise in quite reasonable condition.

The handy thing about this era of Dinkys is that they're screwed together, not riveted. Not that it makes it any more likely that I'll put the hours in to restore it, mind...

And then another Mangusta, this time by Corgi Juniors (and not one with which I'm familiar) in a fairly horrible state, but mostly complete... plus an Edocar Mk2 Granada

All of the above (bar the Mercury, obvs) are available to whoever wants them.

(Thinking about last week's grumpiness from the stallholder, I'm wondering whether he thinks I'm snapping up all his stock and selling it on for MAHOOSIVE PROFIT$$$ online - maybe I'm overthinking it, but maybe I should tell him that I'm not...)

I also picked this Romanian magazine partwork Daewoo Cielo/Nexia up from the sole model shop that remains in Belfast, which I remembered when I saw Felly's sale thread (and which Lord Sterling has now purchased, along with a might fine Espero) - it was there when I bought a Dacia pick-up last summer, and - surprise! - it was still there today!

The shallowness of the wheeltrims do let it down rather, but otherwise it's quite a nice casting.

Cor, nice going!

Is that a Dinky Volvo 245DL on its roof at the bottom, under the Matchbox London Bus?

It is... sadly the only Volvo.

Most of the box is near mint, well chuffed!

I have emptied 32 quid box; the two big tinplates took the price to 40 quid.

I reckon I've done okay here.32614b6478c03c09a3f521748ce43fae.jpgf9345a33404e143d8d0e1949349e9e15.jpg7fcbc32babe7e934f0b91c1d0cf9d67d.jpgb46cb97520447802558d60e120a46170.jpg2663b5da7b33f1689e7af0dd7464a4a0.jpg0d28a247121b76d917e13926288c8a2a.jpga34217b53d15c7d87202e0ab1fae9f9b.jpgccb8ebe6a2f7b0e7c817c4f44caa483a.jpgd4d971a1231add1b17acf02a59f3bc39.jpg1ef0d51f01dfa2d3a56cd26a444698a3.jpgca73d35053075bfc07b23cf3b60262db.jpgf543a48b5da97ab8041f3af7154dbc55.jpg85c14ccd0b1d6abd5fd3b422696b1b9d.jpg37b7d37264c8437ff84fe8cc3df04d86.jpg41a2bb52d196e05808d579fbdd21574f.jpg34d95d6a2d8cffc4de5bdca71e2a0d43.jpgf5e46037b47455b3c01cb3ce790e0633.jpgf9fa161905c06f95f97357ae0ed5848a.jpgfe92c0743b52a85dcc84163298fa62bf.jpg25a496c2e1194958ec6a53aff11b3f6e.jpgc317209f1522624d78a11495ef7a1589.jpg641450682f227962a606f9e4ed090a53.jpga0a982c67dde553fd25df0a7e3747176.jpga3596da447654cede22a30bcc77e54f7.jpg7f1f9a81ef97e871ecaccd5de143be84.jpg5895f8bb77fe7a2891c8524d97d1ca02.jpgda70ede787d4a24f6fad39d028de1aca.jpg29c623e8caa0bbea8100b99cb1463976.jpgbee450148ff924bb16a9e9af8c16f73b.jpg8b960ece87f3b7dd6fbc08ea5b21f412.jpgd8eedc95066d5df5e1fcd80a3c577173.jpg1ed385d24aefc3b3eb2c0e24504b9a2a.jpgf7034c88195fa8881ad705412cab0151.jpgf90120f80f984b79b2af2d17c03f73c9.jpg43166d2cc2bd92bb408888d1d2176bab.jpg98f96c2c856478f7d08648f4e5bac01c.jpg9cebff47ba7e7207fcc17f9edc2f8229.jpg3557edc3f3037a7c8b635bdb8c428abd.jpgc07745615ac958cf5947eab50d81fb77.jpg4bba1edb2b57b59cf3c22386a07c1f09.jpg455561c548e4179fb546c5666ac872a5.jpg6eb28aa0a59e0cb96f1840368e493b26.jpg0cd8b76fa5d81183e48bcaa74e22a634.jpg

Impressive haul and some interesting stuff in there.  At quick glance I did not read the top of the Coastguard Jag at all correctly.

A thanks to 64A60 who answered my appeal for a Allegro I can convert into a Vanden Plas 1500.

I now have the police version but it makes no difference as I plan to paint it maroon anyway.

The next stage is a hideously grotesque grill needs to be fitted. Can anybody think what I can use to achieve the VP look?

I have a max of 17 mm between the lights.

Particularly like this Crown Vic, in fact it’s one of the last Matchbox made with the heavier metal base.

I now have x2 Corgi de Tomaso Mangustas - does anyone know if replacement roof aerials are available - I can't find anywhere?

I found some correct wheels for that shoddy resin kit that I built last year.

I sloshed some weathering on, I'm happier with it now :)

Nice and warm in my workshop now, so I'm going to start doing a few more reprints.

Starting with this Ford to add to my reverse rake rear window collection.

Can anyone please recommend their preferred fine detail paint brushes?

Art shop or model shop for brushes.

For fine detail I sometimes use a cocktail stick, cheap and plentiful.

Struggling now though, eyesight isn't what it used to be :(

You're right DC, the bonnet doesn't open very far.

I don't remember why two silver speed stripes on the Alpine seemed a good idea but I imagine I could have told you in about 1991 Nothing meths can't sort out.

Then this. I don't ever remember not having this Mercedes (c. 1982-3) but I never knew I still had the box until today.

Can't remember where this came from but pretty sure I've had it since the late eighties.

I've been in the bad habit lately of starting stuff and not finishing it, so today I dug out the stuff that was nearest completion and actually did some work on them.

The MG 1100 had bad paint, some grit had got into the first paint I did on it, so I redid that.  The interior will likely go black and I've got the driver and dog to fully detail.  Exterior still needs the trim detailing.  It looks a lot more finished than it is.  The Jag needed a bit extra paint and is very close to finished now, just detailing on the outside and the engine once the paint has cured enough to allow assembly, probably leave the interior as is on this one.  The custom Caddilac station wagon needs the dogs detailing properly and the axles thinning a bit so they sit in the chassis properly, it's otherwise finished.

Taxi isn't far off done.  The interior is staying in the original grey plastic.  I need to detail the exterior and make up my mind about giving it a black vinyl roof since I'm not entirely sure I like it in plain silver.  The Porsche was in a pretty bad way when I got it, it's now looking okay, the racing stripe helps take your attention away from the less great bits of it, detailing to go and a good amount of polishing to make the glass as best as it can be and it's done.

Catering trailer needs a lot of interior detailing, a bit of exterior detailing, and not much else.  The Commer van was a very broken ice cream van that I'd previously done a different custom approach on that I wasn't entirely happy with, I've now redone that and will be making it a panel van to match the catering trailer.  I'm probably going to print off some matching stickers or decals for these and fit the Commer with a tow bar, they look about right together.  Commer still needs lots of bodywork yet.
