Just dumped a load more stripped shells in their caustic-soda bath.  Might as well take advantage of good painting weather!

Here's what I acquired from Ramrod's Disorganised Diecast SaleTM.

Two plastic kits plus an assortment of old toys. A pair of Ford wreckers and an Eccles caravan by Matchbox, five Dinky Dublo (Austin and Bedford trucks, Singer roadster, Land Rover and VW van), a Marx Bulldog Mercury Cougar and a Lone Star Tuf-Toys Dodge Dart complete with giant green alien driver. The Dinky trucks are in pretty good shape and the rest are perfect candidates for restoration.

Needs MOAR Caprice...

NOOOO, only got 1 1/43 scale Septicmobile and that is a Dodge Monaco from the Jimmy Blond collection

Another ex-ramrod. This can stay in its original paint. Defo going to add 'Hoveringham' decals. Less bothered about the tailgate, as I imagine it will be near impossible to colour match.

The matchbox lrdg is a lovely kit, I built that one a few years back. I don't think my eyes are good enough to do another small jeep with that detail

We will have to fix that for you!

I put another batch through the caustic bath today.  Better go out and get some more paint!

I'm not sure whether or not this repaint idea was pointless, brilliant, or both.  I'll varnish it once I've bought/built a windscreen frame for it.

This non Eddy model is a right ruffian. I think I'll be filling the roof holes and making it a standard van.

Every time I see one of these strip-down posts it makes me want to collect some old castings and keep them unpainted.   Just so people can appreciate the skill of those Lesney die-makers.

Picked these random Corgis from a car boot sale ( on a weekday?!) in Port Talbot , today.

The Corniche still has its Spirit of Ecstasy and may be the subject of my first resto, we'll see.

The 1/36s are a departure for me, but I think will just be the start of a collection whilst prices are so low.

Incidentally the Charlie's Angels van is not something I particularly want so if anyone wants it for the £2.50 it owes me plus postage , I'm more than happy to pass it on.

My half of the model exchange arrived today.  Looking forward to getting stuck into this one.  It's not something I would have picked myself but it is something I'm happy to work on.  I'm planning to build it up as a grandma car.  What I'm undecided on is colour, I'm thinking either lemon yellow with a brown interior, white with a red interior, or metallic green with a dark green interior.  Don't want to go with reds or blues for this one and I'm avoiding browns and beiges for the bodywork.  I'm definitely not turning it into a Starkers & Crotch replica.

Green outside with a darker green interior works well on older real life Opels.  Yellow seems to suit some Peugeot coupes very well and even a Rover 75 or two.  On models, because you can see so much of it in one dose, some colours work better than others.  I'll await your expert eye and opinion but will enjoy seeing the end result and even work in progress reports would be nice.

The next Haydock Park fair is hitting upon us soon.

I have serious miniature shite withdrawal symptoms, because I hardly own any.

So who is in?

01. Junkman

Medium Ivy Bronze Poly with a brown interior so that it looks like a 17 foot chocolate lime.

Painting it in old Doris spec sounds cool, what about the rear part of the roof painted to look like a contrasting vinyl top that was all the rage on a lot of giffer spec land yachts?

Posted

I've toyed with the half-vinyl roof idea, and the full one.  I'm undecided.  I do like this era of American car when they're in an insipid metallic with a white vinyl roof.

I think chocolate lime with white half vinyl top would be winner winner chicken dinner, the sort of car driven everywhere at 27 mph by some 4ft 6 old dear in her 80s, or  some grumpy Austrian in Stockport would love to own

Started the dry fit on the Torino.  It's quite a nice kit, fit seems very good and there's minimal flashing on the parts.  Only annoyance so far has been that there's some parts for a different version - probably the TV car - and no mention of that in the instructions, so there's more parts than you actually need.  I'm also amused at the excessive amount of engine detail combined with the minimal number of opening panels.  Ideally suited to grandma since it comes with power steering, automatic gearbox, bench seat in the front, and column shift.  Definitely not a speed machine, more of a comfy Sunday church car.

It's also massive compared to what I'm used to working on so I'm a little apprehensive about the bodywork.  The small detail work bothers me less since it's all bigger than I'm used to working with.  I'm leaning towards brown interior and pale yellow exterior at the moment.
