Shite in Miniature II

Remember this? Lost the lights and spares so it was a ruined model.

IMG_20190211_205504.jpg

My son (7) decided to restore it and we've managed to bodge some Moskvich lights and grille on the front and some random orange plastic for the rears. He has gone a bit 'blue forum' by slamming it, but he'll grow out of that I'm sure. I did*

Just bumpers and no. plate to sort now...

Grand job!

As an aside, is that noisy Toyota Supra I sold you years back still ringing in your ears? :)

6C I was trying to echo your model-buying policy but I failed miserably, mainly due to the temptations on offer in this thread!

I was also not content with the Schabak 1/24 scale Audi Cabriolet that I already had for some years before winning the 1/1 scale version because I felt I 'needed' tue complimentary Siku item in a small scale!

I bought a 12 inch to the foot scale Audi Cab and then needed a model, mine is also Schabak but 1/43 the same as the rest of my collection. The model is even green same as the real one.

I have to be very serve with myself not just to buy models I like and then Quicksilver gave me a bag of play worn and I have never had so much fun lining them up on my desk! Trouble is 12 inch to the foot Commer vans are rare and valuable now!

Oh if only my life as a pump jockey (1979-80) could have been so glamorous!

Any references to persons either living or dead is purely coincidental!!

No Eddys were harmed in the making of this production.

Think he still has it, at his mum's.

It was a little bastard of a toy, but he loved it.

I cleaned the Mercedes 508, but note the Ferrari in the background, that was another of his attempts at painting, quite impressed

Some very nice pieces there....What's the Vespa?   French Dinky?

Because better one incoming, for sale at £2 + £3 postage. Doors partially missing, some staining to the interior. Still, the nicer older wheels etc.

The body on this was really pitted, and I almost didn't bother to repaint, but it deserved to live. I'll add it to the Norev above if you like as a sweetener*

How should I paint it, what equipment do I need, should I strip it to paint?

I'm sure I read some pages back to use the over cleaner packs that come with oven cleaner and a plastic bag. You cover the model with the oven cleaner and then leave it in the plastic bag for a couple of days. I've never tried this myself so could someone please confirm this works before six-cylinder makes his Jag super realistic by dissolving it.

My latest restoration attempt is this 1958 Matchbox Vauxhall Cresta.

post-5543-0-28896800-1550675563_thumb.jpg

As you can see quite tatty and overpainted.

Stripping the paint off, revealed it was a pink car originally,

So decided on a colour scheme that would reflect that.

Took it down to Eddys fuels, to top up the tank,

As when it comes to refuelling matchbox cars no-one does it better.

After all it's been his life's vocation.

"What you reckon eddy?"

"Nice car M8"

JM is correct, it's a Quiralu. French Dinky did make one as well but it's much smaller, i have one that I repainted many years ago.

Egg: I'd be happy to give that green van a home if it's not been claimed, it's one I don't have.  Please drop me a PM with details if it's still up for grabs.

You're all probably a bit sick of my posts, but I'm getting into this painting cars lark.

My latest idea was to sort this rather down-in-the-heel Corgi Metro.

I've only got a small selection of paints, but fancied something different. I decided to mix matt blue and metallic silver and just go with whatever came out. The result was a colour that... well... if British disappointment and dreariness were made into a colour, this would be it.

It's not perfect, but bear in mind there was no masking or dismantling involved
