Does that have a bonnet release inside? According to that 1970 catalogue it should have, but I'm buggered if I remember mine having such a thing when I was 7. Although to be fair, I was pretty dumb at that age, I was convinced it was the same as both Steve McGarret's car and Frank Cannons. In my defence they were the same colour ( on a b&w telly, anyway)

Just before Christmas, I had 4 days away on a job down in Napier. As I was away from home and the usual work area, I was given cash per diems to spend but had little time/opportunity to use them, so I had a fair wodge left to keep as miniature tat-laundering currency.

 

Cue a brief trip up to Auckland the other day for work, where fortunately I had enough time to visit my favourite shop in NZ and spend with gay abandon (though I somehow emerged with cash to spare for another trip some time).

 

Having now decided to focus on 1/43 scale (with the odd 1/64, of course), here's what I got:

 

 

 

I'd seen this Solido 190 2.3 16 or whatever it is before but the body kit of these always looks a bit iffy scaled down, so I'd passed. Until now. Not a bad rendition really and nice and cheap.

 

 

 

 

This Norev Jet Car 6 Series had a sticker price that was a tad higher than I'd wished (the box is also quite tatty) but I was throwing monetary caution to the wind, so what the hey. 

 

 

 

It's equally cheaply made and unnervingly light (not really a patch on earlier Jet Cars I have) but also in very good nick and the yellow glass and headlamps really add to the final product. The colour is also quite alluring, too.

 

 

 

This Schuco 3 Series was winking at me at a greater rate than the gold Norev 6 (I think I preferred this one's box art) and they were equally priced, so I bagged this, also. I'll freely admit that I left a light blue Schuco E12 on the shelf, as all its opening parts made the finish look quite clunky; plus, I already have a Solido E12. Back to this one, I like the shape retained, even with opening clamshell bonnet, boot lid and doors. The wheels are also oodles better than those naff star efforts on later Jet Cars but after all the opening bits effort, the black plastic front end is quite dull. As is the colour -  a nice 70's green or orange would look much better.

 

 

 

Speaking of 70's colours and preferable wheels, here's a Norev Renault 15 I picked up from Trademe at a price that was palatable enough to be paid from our joint account. Seen here zipping about town with typical French reverence*.

This was a bit of a strange one and again could've been cheaper but according to a very quick Google, these aren't easy to find: a Maxwell Ambassador. It's been modified at some point as it's now on Spot On wheels, though looking at the original wheels, it's very much an improvement in my book! Anyway, nice to have something Indian in my growing collection, which is a change from all the German and French stuff.

 

 

 

This USSR edifice was also welcomed into my mucky paw for the same reasons. I've only just noticed now that the quarter light stanchion is broken, though it looks to me like it came like that from the factory. Nice stripy Moskvitch box art, too.

 

 

 

Clearly this is a commemorative piece to celebrate those trusty capatobs reaching the number 400, so good on 'em. Sadly, the bonnet barely opens but it does stay shut in place and is still in one piece, so not to worry. 

 

 

 

This for me was the real pick of the day. I'd not been sure in the past that I'd be that interested in something in a foreign livery added to my mini fleet but then I remembered I had an Atlas Polizei Taunus, so mind changed. I'm very glad I did, as I love it! There's so much detailing and a nice hefty weight to it.

 

 

 

All 4 doors opening is a real boon though like the Dinky Mk4 Zodiac, you have to open the fronts first before you open the rears. I'd love to collect more of this sort of thing but NZ doesn't have limitless supplies of ageing 1/43s, let alone USSR stuff. I'm thinking this must have been a popular model back in the day, as I see that it's been re-issued in a possibly more accurate style (and sadly without the opening parts) but as Junkman says about Atlas Dinkies, most De Agostini stuff just leaves me a bit cold. 

 

 

 

Since the staff are always happy to do a deal for bulk buyers, I got money off the sticker prices and this 1/24 Bburago Alfa 75 chucked in gratis. Clearly this isn't a 1/43 but I have a soft spot for the more mundane Bburago 1/24 castings and I don't think I was aware of the 75 until now.

 

All in all, a good morning's shopping!

Well jel of that Maxwell Hindustan!    Maxwell used to copy-cast Corgi but that looks home-grown - the Cowley was a Series II car rather than III like that Amby.   Good job on the wheels - as you rightly say the originals are truly shit - think Zylmex that's been chewed by a dog and shat out again.

Great haul. I love the original Soviet models. That Volga casting was reissued many times and they updated it with the real car to a point. I have a saloon example with a 1990s front but it retains the internal features and baseplate of the original. Its fantastically clunky, in Russian taxi livery.

 

I love the non-sporting Bburago 1/24s, I have that 75 in kit livery which is some sort of Australian rally with those terrible waterside decals.

Those old Soviet diecasts are win, I only have a battered Samara that has zinc pest and a RAF Latvia minibus. That Volga is ace, and a great haul there Jon. Im pissed off that a model I ordered from an ebay UK seller hasnt turned up yet, should have arrived today, I now want a Gama mk3 Ashtray in base flavour, but they are stupid money on egay now. Not that long ago they were dirt cheap.

Random unexpected find in the hipster version of Home Bargains, the Danish jumble sale that calls itself Søstren Grene - a penny racer rendition of a Mk1 Toyota Yaris 5dr.







For £1.32, I couldn't help myself... same colour as MrsDC's first Yaris, too. Just a bit less truncated.
