Don't forget a certain Oxford diecast Bedford due in 2019 Martin!

i personally prefer the diecasts of yesteryear.

mainly corgi and dinky for me, from the 1960's, though sometimes earlier or later vehicles do make it into the collection.

i dunno, what it is about the models from that period, it could be that its the period that i mostly am interested in, or that the castings from that time seem to be the crispest, most detailled and have the most unusual or impracticle "working" features.

so i'm wondering what old bits of tat 2019 will present me........

I used to like those 'pull back' powered diecast toys of obscure scale which were displayed in cardboard trays at £3-99 a throw.  They may still be available but I've not been back to Skegness for years.  I've got a nice Morris 1000 in green, an Isetta bubble car, two Trabants in pale blue but in slightly different scales and a three wheeled pick-up of some sort all in my display cabinet. The smaller of the two Trabbies has opening doors and boot, the larger one opening doors only.  The Morris looks a bit battered but is in fact pristine and shiny.  The photo does not do the vehicles justice but brings out the dust nicely.  Other things in view are leftovers from my late wife's obsession with dolls and Lilliput Lane things.  They are gradually being displaced.  I'm a fast worker.  She's been gone nearly 11.5 years.

Edit: £3-99 sounds expensive.  Maybe they were £1-99?

I hear you.

As tempting as those new Oxfords and Ixos and what have you are, every time I decide to buy one, I get last second remorse, turn around and buy another vintage model. At least in the smaller scales. I don't know what it is, but the new models somehow fail to entice me in the end. I find them oddly soulless.

Exceptions are those lovely Lansdowne models, but sadly I'm in the wrong income group for those.

The thing is,the old Dinkys & Corgis are toys at the end of the day,& nicer for it.I buy new models if it's something recent, but much prefer finding something older.

I like the fact that some of the things I got for Christmas today were very likely to have been Christmas presents for somebody many years ago.   And may well be in the future.

Yo,

Today was mostly spent at Ma_Sterling's yard for Christmas. I didn't receive anything automotive as presents.

However. Many years ago when I began working full time I made quite a bit of money and had no commitments. One of the things I used to do was go on eBay and buy model cars. At one time (about the time I joined this forum for the first time) my bedroom was full of precarious shelves full of these things. But then when a bedroom swap around was done I shoved all of my models into a couple of big wooden boxes and forgot about them.

The other day I remember I had a 1:24 Chrysler Voyager and wanted to find it. Today I when through the boxes to see what I could find...

I'd forgotten I had so much great stuff. 1:18 Autoart Range Rover P38, Renault Megane Sport, Mk3 Ford Escort XR3, Peugeot 205 GTi and even a Chrysler Crossfire! Some really great stuff. Best of all, it's all mine.

I'd decided to bring some stuff with me back home. I think I'll be making an effort to eventually migrate everything back to mine. I took some of the more unusual stuff back with me;

Yep, that is a 1:24 Fiat Ducato minibus.

1:24 Passat estate. Exciting eh?

Interesting differences between the 2 Sapphires I own. One is a LHD and the other a RHD and one has a bonnet grille, the other just has a long-nose bonnet. Also, one is pretending to be a Cosworth and the other a is really a Ghia. I remember buying the White one thinking it was a Cosworth but alas it wasn't. Also note the Cavaliers in the background trying to photobomb the picture. I forgot I owned a hatchback whilst I had the Saloon which I think I may have bought from Bramz some years ago.

2.8 Granada Scorpio Ghia with a Blue interior. I have driven one idential to it but it had different wheels and a leather interior, Also, it was a real car.

Alas, I didn't find my 1:24 Chrysler Voyager but I'm sure it'll turn up at some point. I didn't exactly have enough space to clear to the box.

...a three wheeled pick-up of some sort .

Probably a Daihatsu Midget. I did think it might be a pick-up version of a Daihatsu Bee at first, similar styling, but the next nearest thing I can find is the Midget.

You may remember I bought this in Lille in the summer. For sale now, £6 posted.

The top picture reminds me of when I was a kid in the seventies.A local insurance broker had a diorama set up in the shop window, using model railway buildings & Matchbox cars.It showed the things they covered, like car crashes & house fires.I was fascinated by it,and always asked my parents if we could look at it,even though it was right at the far end of the town  :-)

The middle pic is where I can see myself, although the two little children are maybe 2-3 years older than I am going by the models.

Yeah, the middle pic is right where I was at my peak Matchbox play-age - circa mid to late 1967.  I would have been 7, coming on 8 at that time.   Still have most of those which seem to have escaped my aerial-bombing, pyrotechnic and stock-car period of 18 months or so later.

My peak Matchbox play age sadly was just about in Superfast territory, so I rummaged the bargain bins for leftover RWs.

One of these is on Ebay right now, tatty but complete and 3 quid. I'm bidding.

Those old Dinky Bedford CF’s aren’t worth a great deal, in fact the example I had I think I ended up giving away. I’m still on the look out for a similar era Dinky Transit, occasionally they crop up for not a lot. IIRC these age Dinkys were screwed together hence making a bit of a resto easy.

I can remember being bought mine, circa 1973/4. I was into toy Minis so have no idea how a CF came into the equation. There was a red post office one as well.

Another reason....

CFs are riveted together sadly, shame they didn't do them the same size as the Transit

If that eBay CF doesn't work out let me know, I have one I'd be happy to sell on for a very modest amount.

It wasn't one I had as kid and I'd rather concentrate on assembling a collection of 'big' Corgis.

Has anyone heard of the Paradise Garage brand?

No clues underneath apart from the obligatory 'Made in China.'  It has an indistinct large 'T' on the front and motorcycle type forks.  Whilst manhandling it one of the front doors opened (both do), a feature I was unaware of.

Remspoor, I hope you realise just how many hours I've now lost to watching model railway builds.  That Magnorail stuff looks like a good solution for a couple of model roadway ideas I've had fomenting in the back of my brain for a few years, originally I was looking at using bicycle components to make one, but the Magnorail stuff looks much easier to put together for what I want.  I'm now trying to decide if I want to build a multi-tier model roadway for my existing Lesney/Matchbox (I'll sort according to scale to decide what to use for this), or whether to put the sci-fi model roadway idea I've had for a long time into action.  Either way it's great to have yet another project idea that I can fantasise about wasting investing all my money and time into.
