Shite in Miniature II

That Zephyr does look really nice apart from the red on the roof @FakeConcern hopefully it’ll come off easy?
Is it paint of felt tip/marker? Sometimes spraying deodorant on it then wiping with tissue gets it off.

I’ve never been a fan of the back end of the small scale Corgi Escorts so I thought I’d try and do something about it.

In case you’re wondering, I’ve cut the awful tow bar off the base and reg plate.

Laser Wheels, on a Corgi? Sacrilege!

I’m undecided which wheels to use so I’m open to suggestions.

That Spot-On Rover 3 litre I’ve been working on is now in etch primer. I did fill the worst of the chips and scratches in the metal. Outer edges of the roof and top of the boot lid were worst. You can just see the green filler left in the damage in the pic.
The other bits I’m hoping the primer might sort. You'd be there all day and have to fill the whole car trying to get rid of them all. There was also a huge horrible casting line across the boot lid so I’ve filed and sanded that down.

Schabak Ford Orion is almost done.

New windscreen looks ok, held in with Glue ‘N Glaze. I’ve painted the interior as it was just left in the dark grey plastic. It’s still mostly grey but in closer colours to my old car.
I’ve still got a bit to do like painting in number plates, make a replacement rear light as it was missing, then paint the engine and put the plastic air pipe/filter back in.
It’s as close as I can get to my old H reg 1.4 GLX. Although I can’t remember what wheels mine had. I’m sure mine had orange front indicators too.
Considering the age of these Schabak castings I’m really impressed with them. I wouldn’t mind an Escort version next to do as the J reg one a friend had, a 1.4 LX.

Not been in The Range for a while. So I went in, nothing at all in the toy aisle but on my way out, I spotted a big metal Hot Wheels rummage bin with quite a few recent-ish releases. Mostly stuff I've seen before, but I did manage to spot a couple I've missed out on,

IMG_20250727_145230.jpg.aed60e8230fbcb817685f763b0bfd164.jpg

The BINI, in...

..."LETS OFF ROAD!" trim. It  looks pretty good with the simulated muddy tyres and mud splashes,

IMG_20250727_152511.jpg.3ccdffddf86a8e8c642d21c34908a014.jpg

I though at first it was one of Hot Wheels' copyright-dodging "looks like, but isn't" jobs like the King Cuda and 24/seven, but it is an actual Mini.

IMG_20250727_145230.jpg.aed60e8230fbcb817685f763b0bfd164.jpg

IMG_20250727_152535.jpg.09b902937d4c3c1af757da3d1ff6f02f.jpg

I think it would look more like one with a bit of tampo printing on the headlights to bring them out. The only lights really visible are the glazed spotlights which give it a bit of a weird bug-eyed look, but its still a nice fun little thing.

IMG_20250727_145123.jpg.7e318e8d7dd1507d5bf2711e1d401964.jpg

And after much searching, I finally found the mad-bastard F1 Espace. Another great casting.

But the best of all was waiting for me when I got in from work. Another AliExpress special,

Boom! (And half the cost of one of the ebay ones...)

This one's coming out to play!

IMG_20250728_213604.jpg.c661c5dbe08bf037c9f148630f3d3652.jpg

I have many fond memories of my old red Matchbox SD1 from 1983 but in comparison this one's more like a miniature model.

IMG_20250728_214314.jpg.d8ea2b1e241549521cb98f7dad882eb0.jpg

The hubcap wheels are a little bit of a let- down on a Vitesse, but I understand Matchbox fitting them as I think the other wheels in the range would have been far too big. The old MB SD1 was a bit chunky and fit-the-box in it's proportions, but this is very svelte, long and low like the real thing, and as a result, it's quite small. But they've got the shape bang-on.

IMG_20250728_214325.jpg.01c31a0e4ad007abaea9a1cbbba0aa38.jpg

For it's size though, the detailing is pretty tidy, like the door handles, rubbing strips and C pillar trims.

IMG_20250728_214453.jpg.7c70a16ea4bb095bec11acd21b6391e0.jpg

IMG_20250728_214627.jpg.b102df3cbd9fe4f98ac344d8be02028c.jpg

Visible longship detailing on the badge and nice tampos on the lights. Even has the headlight washers moulded in.

IMG_20250728_214348.jpg.0c3d736075b76249d7ca21a8e2dbad5c.jpg

And check out that rear badging!

IMG_20250728_214423.jpg.d7d378c872af286dd095f925e99a3ba9.jpg

Steering wheel looks like a half-sucked Werthers Original, but it's pleasing to see they've done it in RHD and there is some dash detail moulded in,

IMG_20250728_215308.jpg.8ac66593bb5d8779a471993fa7d4934d.jpg

The red baseplate makes it look like red carpets are fitted too...

IMG_20250728_215113.jpg.3583606d0a1983c4011a74a1672bb358.jpg

Had to oh-so-gently tease the bonnet open, as it extends out, there's an audible 'click' which made me think at first that I'd snapped the bonnet hinge, but there's the money shot!

IMG_20250728_215346.jpg.1c008802b66513b218c50e285304e82c.jpg

Bonnet closes in two stages too, like the real thing.

My favourite Moving Parts to date, I think. (The Colt Celeste coming in a close second...)

Holy shit! That SD1 is lovely.
First time I’ve seen one. Wrong scale for me, but Matchbox have outdone themselves with that one.

You swine, I've ordered mine and was hoping to drop it on here first 🤣

Thankfully unlike the Moving Parts Anglia, AliExpress didn't cancel my order when they realised how popular it is. Police one sounds amazing but as the chase Samba is £80, I don't think it's likely we'll find one - especially as Entertainer seem to have given up on stocking them

That Rover is a thing of exquisite beauty...

...consequently, I've fallen arse-first onto AliExpress and should hopefully have one arriving mid-month.

Prices seem all over the place with various store sellers, but there are some sub-£10 items on offer so fingers crossed something will show up...

Aw, let a lad have his moment, I'm normally 6 months behind you! 🤣

I've noticed the prices for it on AliExpress have gone up a bit since I ordered mine, so it must be proving to be pretty popular.

Like other Chinese produced 959s it has the screwed on base that was used for the Alarm Cars version

That Capri looks very much like the Dinky one.

I think the Dinky ones are either smaller or larger if you see what I mean, haven't got one to hand but it's about 116mm from front to rear overrider

Won this on ebay, arrived today.

I bid on it solely as I have a knock off version and wanted to compare.

That SD1 😍.

I have the original matchbox 1980 casting. It's not good - the front is too angled and unlike the real thing the sunroof works.

Gorgeous.i believe there's going to be a Police "Super Chase" version too.

In that case, I think we're gonna need a three-way comparison at some stage...

It looks like Corgi used the same casting but Matchbox didn’t… look at the front indicator.

That's odd. Some of mine clearly have the indicators on the police version

Others do not

Maybe the mould got worn and had to be altered

I was digging around in boxes today looking for a few things (which I did not find!) but got this out,

I think that is probably one of my favourite oldies ever! Such a cool toy.
