I was getting around £30 about 5 years ago on buy it now listings. If I were listing now I'd probably ask £40 now as that appears to be the minimum asking price now.

Thanks.
I’ll see what eBay does then. There are some of them on there but some of the prices are a tad unrealistic imho! I need to dig out of the big box it’s still yet though.

Dan mentioning the large Triang lorries reminded me that when he posted originally I wanted to find a pic of me with one I had as a kid, but I couldn't find it then. The other day I stumbled across it and here it is.

IMG_2951.JPG.b9c0447b17dc94a62f71b23b8caa58ee.JPG

It had a red cab and turquoise box van with opening doors

Like this one

I also had a milk lorry that was white and blue I thought I took a pic of one in a junk shop (priced at £65 or similar), but can't find it. Like this one

s-l1600.jpg

A bit off topic, but I have mentioned before that all the Spot On toys I had came from my uncles that ran a shop, well I believe these Triang lorries did too. The shop was originally my Grandad's who died when I was a baby so never met him. Anyway I was chatting to a cousin about the shop and she produced a few pencils and gave me one

Athold Stone was my Grandad's name

IMG_1095.JPG.971b0b275bfe134f4a968a52cd4c54c4.JPG

Shop was in Lambeth Walk

IMG_1093.JPG.f980136f6d118721581c62c388d51014.JPG

And it sold...

Not sure what the first word is, but toys are in there.

Sorry for the nostalgia trip!

The Datsun 240Z was being made in 1974, I think:

What floor polish do you use?

Got both of these, think any self-shining floor polish will do the trick. I don't often use it really, I prefer to polish up with some metal polish I found which seems to do a brilliant job

Put the Interceptor back together. Since we are on the topic of glass (plastic) I've missed loads of green paint on the windows. I'll give it another go with a toothpick and a polish with toothpaste.

Fits in with the 1974 theme too, particularly when sat on a formica sideboard.

The green Jag was an Inspector Morse edition; I quite like these for the steel wheels.  The other two are the Atlas Editions police Jag, which is a lovely model for the prices I can buy them at.  You might recognise the red one as George Sewell's car in Get Carter.  Before it loses a door, obviously!  And here they are with their sisters...

Hmm, who had a yellow XJS on screen?  Believe it or not, John Steed, in the Canadian episodes of The New Avengers.  I probably should have converted it to LHD.  So, while we're in the Screen section...

Partwok Lada is now the one from Wanted; Angelina Jolie steals it to chase after a train.  Bburago Saab might be a bit tougher, as it hasn't actually appeared on screen but in print.  It's a Bond car, from the early 80s reboot books by John Gardner.  The car has a name, The Silver Beast, and some special Q Branch details, none of which I've incorporated into the model.  And speaking of Bond...

...The famous Sherpa torn apart by Jaws.  As you can see, I've stripped a couple of these now; you probably saw the generic-green one a while back.  Now we have a police van too, loosely based on one that appeared in The Bill.  Too loosely for my Screen cabinet though; I've put it in the police cabinet instead.  My filler work on the driver's door could have been better, but hey, it's a working police vehicle, a bit of scuffing is to be expected.  It's still better than the cast-in dent!

Who Scott?  I've never watched Rebus, although I am aware John Hannah played him.  I guess the part was recast at some point?  And I didn't know he had a signature car either.  I'm only dimly aware of Luther having a Volvo because it's been mentioned here!

Modern detectives are not for me, mostly.  They tend to whisper, grunt or shout, all with under- and over-tones of rage.  Also, they take two to six hours of mooning about in pitch darkness to decide who dunnit.  Where's the style?  Where's the humour?  Where's the daylight?  Where's the action?  Where's the car chase?  What happened to a one-hour standalone story?

Yeah exactly, these things don't exist any more.  I'm thankful I grew up in a golden age: Man In A Suitcase, Batman, Starsky And Hutch, CHiPs and so on and so on.

As for The Bill, yeah I've got the stripe wrong for that van.  Maybe I should have looked it up.  Maybe I'll redo it (the day after King Kia resigns).

What about Public Eye? That's my favourite programme of that ilk. Although Frank Marker never had his own car he hired a few and there were others that featured heavily in some episodes.

It has to be Kojak for me! There's something very atmospheric about 1970s New York. When I was there last year and strolling around Central Park, I kept thinking about the episodes which were shot there.

Posted

Public Eye never suited me.  I've seen a handful of episodes on Talking Pictures TV and all they've done is confirm my earlier impression.

Kojak, well of course he had that lush Buick, and made sure to use it!  ISTR the character was quite an elegant dresser too, in a restrained unlike-Jason-King way.

Kojak's New York, like Marker's London, was simultaneously glamorous and threadbare, a setting you don't really get now.  Life has polarised.  Glamour is slick and shiny; ghettos are crumbling and dangerous.

I'm currently watching the Department S reruns on Rewind TV, Freeview channel 92.

Jason King has  metallic red James Young Bentley.

i454149.jpg

The girl in it has a red Lotus Elan +2

i454303.jpg

And they also use a white FD Victor. Both this and one with a one digit lower reg were used in Randell and Hopkirk Deceased.

i454140.jpg

Also this Fulvia has appeared in a few episodes.

i454169.jpg

Lots of other chod appear throughout the program.

The Ventora, 997, appeared in a couple of shows from the same studio.  The Victor, 996, only ever appeared in Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased), as Jeff Randall's car.  I love this period, I'm convinced it was a Golden Age.  Sadly, there's never been a mainstream model of the FD saloon; I doubt there ever will be now because its fans are getting (frankly) old, and it isn't a Ford.

Shoestring, did someone say?

The blue one, of course.  It only appeared in one episode, in which it was totalled, to be replaced by the famous red Cortina estate he drove for the rest of the run.

Just had a delivery

Good packing

DSCF7135.JPG.8c4a21142165cc8a1f12a8f2cc915274.JPG

First out are the old catalogues.  Small fold out Guisval leaflet from 1974 (one page late).

DSCF7139.JPG.fdd33a3323e66b3172522f90b3e6a0c1.JPG

Small Schuco. Not dated, but looking at the cars I think 1970 or 1971.

DSCF7140.JPG.b0ece130c53d3bee67fcfc74b515b124.JPG

Another Schuco. This has teh 1303 Beetle so I'm guessing from 1973.

DSCF7141.JPG.d11d7753296131ed530679b7f73432b6.JPG

Mebetoys from 1971.

DSCF7142.JPG.9d134cd61835b9d67f2fc405cad499a9.JPG

Politoys Story. Again not dated, but as it has the the 1303 Bug I'm guessing '73 or '74. It has 180 pages with a model on each page.

DSCF7143.JPG.d36b0cc74274086ec0417e0911bdd723.JPG

1977 Polistil

DSCF7144.JPG.21d6398cfa8dad332292b6bca9c9979b.JPG

Not dated but slightly later Polistil.

I'll be scanning the Guisval, Schuco and Mebetoys. However the Politoys and Polistils are quite pagey, so I will probably keep them to hand and scan pages when needed.

Yes, joy turned to sadness as I realised they wanted anything between £5 and £19 each for these '80s Matchboxes in Cash Converters - with most up near the top end.

£5 a pop for the white BMW E30 cabrio and red Mk3 Transit not too bad; the same for the white and the blue versions of the RS200 seemed semi-reasonable, though the boxes were visibly torn/ taped on most of these.

£10 for the later 90s Escort Cosworth with union jack decor.

£15 for the white Mk2 Golf with Quantum rally decals and the Peugeot 205 Turbo 2 rally (both also with torn boxes).

£19 each for the Transit Supervans, the white XR3 Cabriolet, and each of the red Mk2 Golfs - the boxes all looked a bit better on these, but still appeared to have been opened.

Good luck getting those dratted price stickers off without causing further damage to the boxes, too.

I didn't buy any!
