Shite in Miniature II

I think it just goes with the territory of trying to sell a product for less than £2 in some circumstances, not the margin for fettling it a bit.

And the Renault 18 estate from the Argentina partwork.
Im not a huge fan of French cars in all honesty, but they made a nice car with the 18 imho. Model is a great looking attempt at it too. Pretty sure this model is of a later 18??

Yes indeed, the colour-coordinated bar above the grille is an indicator of the April 1984-on Mk2 version of the R18, which also got the dashboard out of the Fuego at the same time but precious little else to shout about.

It's one of the few cars I can recall which was officially badged as a 'Mark 2', rather than it just being a colloquial term used by dealers and owners to distinguish from an earlier model.

(Capri II and Mustang II being the others that come to mind, which you'll well know!)

I remember the really naff ‘American’ special edition they did on the 18. On a French car… 🤣

BMC did it with the Mk2 Mini and Mini Cooper.

Innocenti put Mk3 on their Mk3 Mini Minor, but I guess you all know that from my avatar.

Norev modelled the original style R18, which was sold through Renault Dealers.

They chose the pale metallic green that many were painted in and is like the original Solido saloon model from the late 1970s.

Back to car numbers, the Triumph Spitfire proudly announced it's version on the bonnet and rear quarters.

This was keeping up the tradition of Spitfire badging started on the Mk2

and going on to the Mk3

Just won a couple more auction lots. More on this when I have been to collect. Purchased mainly because of the amount of Minis and Metros.

The only thing I’d do to one is fit the V8 from a Majestic Major, as Jaguar should’ve done to begin with. Not that I dislike the XK engine.

Nice!

I’ll give that broken Dinky TK bin truck a home if you don’t want it!? Always after the damaged ones as cab donors.

The problem with the Mk10 is that there’s more of them than people want to restore, a rough one isn’t worth going near. The cost to respray one is prodigious as are engine rebuild costs. Hence a fairly straight one with a bollocksed engine wouldn’t be expensive.

That Renault G series is a beauty!

I agree, do they do the pre Iveco-ENASA cab Pegasos? Once you head off the beaten track there’s a surprising number of Pegasus still in use in Spain even though they bit the dust in 1994.

The banger boys still seem to keep picking them, likewise the S type/420. Tbh it’d probably be more difficult to find a donor Daimler Majestic Major engine. Not exactly that common even when new.
I’ve seen Jags before re-engined with things like Chevy & Ford V8’s, which are much cheaper to rebuild/buy than the XK and offer more power straight out of the box, but somehow it seems a bit vulgar to me to be fitting engines like that to a Jaguar!

Is the ENESA type the same as DAF, Seddon Atkinson and Pegaso used? Or later than that?

Theres a Pegaso Troner available, which is the DAF/Seddon/Pegaso cab.
Also the similar looking Tekno.
Then there’s the older 60’s and 70’s ones too like the Comet & Super Comet.

Ive got a few of each of those above for donor chassis!
Pretty sure the only Pegaso trucks we got here were the Troner’s. But they were very few and far between.

The Tekno I think they’re generally known as.

They can be found cheaper than that.
I’ve got one here as a chassis donor. Somewhere! Cab is no good to me though if you want it…

Those are modeled by Mira but they have massive fat tyres so I've never kept hold of them. The casting itself is nice though.

The one you've pictures is quite a late one, the earlier type had a similar grille to the previous Comet.

I think the only Renault 18 I have is this Norev Jet Car on the Corgi transporter...

IMG_0942.thumb.JPG.7f4008136274e45a0d25c74820adfe45.JPG

I picked up a small job lot of shite in a junk shop in Hastings this morning

The Unimog has the flags so I can replace the broken one on the really nice example I got from Dan recently. The Lone Star ElCamino is totally fucked, but interesting.

The best thing is the Dinky Supertoys Foden dump truck

IMG_0941.thumb.JPG.8a492aceffe050852274fbe40c110ed9.JPG

I looked it up when I got home and it should have a snow plough on the front, you can see what's left of the ram for it.

It can't be a really early model since it has windows, but I haven't looked up when it was produced yet. I really like it though!

I must admit those Foden look better without the plough! Could you carefully cut the old mount off flush to the bumper, give the bumper a quick paint and stick a set of tyres on? It’d look fine then I think.

Good find on the Unimog as a flag donor. How on earth it’s managed to lose all its back end but keep the flags though!😄

I agree, I was thinking of making the bracket into a winch, but filing it off might be better. Apparently it was produced from 1961 until 1968.

I have a few Unimogs and most have lost the mirrors even if in pretty good shape. It is strange how things like that happen, if only we could know the story of some of these toys!

A few nice bits in there, I had the silver Mini and I'd give a mintish one a home.

I've got a half formed plan to customise one of those Magic Roundabout Citroens too, I'll be evicting Dougal and Ermintrude though.

Will the K-7 have the little tray in the back still I wonder?

Not to everyone's taste, but cleverly done to allow for two tone colours, window unit being the grille and lights also helps.

Here it is in bits, got to be careful not to drill through the roof when preparing to thread the posts /s

I did buy this to do a proper custom, but thought it would make a good victim to try a new product on, a metalising powder. Darker colours work best but it's had an interesting effect on the brown, making it look more bronze. A set of Temu wheels finish off a 30 minute project

I wonder if you could put a 5.3 Jag V12 in one by grafting an XJ12 front frame on, but then who would sacrifice an XJ12 to make some hybrid that very few would want.

As a few have asked about the fate of some of the stuff I have gotten recently I should have a sort out and start a sales thread for the ones I do not want. And now there appears to more interest in the stuff I have just got I think that might happen sooner rather than later.

Very popular in south Africa & the USA to repower with a V8.

It was a great seller though, especially in France.  So much so, they sold out and the following year they released a 'Mark2 American' in more colour schemes in twice the number built

Back in the early 80s, Renault were proud of the fact they had the controlling stake in American Motors (AMC) and market footing in both North and South Americas.  So what with riding the 'cool to be American' vibe, they produced the American edition to be the range topper, with most of the extras found on the US releases

20250114_142140145_iOS.jpg

Over in France a surviving American edition is quite sought after.
