Did a big Antique and Collectors fair at the weekend in order to try and sell some of the accumulated shite that fills chez Ratdat. Waste of time. Covered our costs but that's about all. Hoever as compensation, I did find one thing worth buying for £8... a 1/43 AMC Javelin. I've been after one of these for ages....

It's a '70 Javelin so not exactly the same as the one I used to have (mine was a '69) but close enough. It was made by Pilen in Spain and comes in a nice little case...

Incidentally, Junkman... this week I'll be processing my shite for Beaulieu Autojumble which is next weekend so I'll pull out the various Japanese car model kits I mentioned before and snap some pics of them.

I actually got three of the latter:

I will explain the reason for this soon.

Damn. I'm too poor for this hobby.

You and me both sir!  For as long as I can remember too (and I'm 55 now), although it hasn't stopped me building up a collection that puts a severe frown on MrsR's chops every time she thinks of it.  Imagine what I could do if I did have money...!

Some may remember this pic taken earlier this year, when I was younger, at the NEC resto show:

Shortly afterwards, I was very very sad, because I didn't have sufficient funds to purchase it.

I'm overjoyed to be able to announce that this has been rectified today.

Unfortunately, the model is not a very faithful representation of the original:

I'm still happy to have it, though.

I realise I have some quite severe colour blindness, but Halicki's original looks almost red to me.

There is another shot of it in the film, where it appears more orange, but it's not nearly as tangerine as the model.

OK, and since I don't have nearly enough Japan plastic:

pic079.jpg

These old Japanese kits have often quite nicely captured the body shape:

pic080.jpg

However, they were intended to be toys, and thus have chassises intended to be motorised:

pic081.jpg

Since some room is required to accomodate motor and batteries, they often compromised the interior,

by just making them a shallow tub:

pic082.jpg

So if you want to build a plausible model, you will need to find a replacement interior and chassis,

that is a better representation of the real thing.

Many of the more newer kits do come with detailed interiors and chassisessers.

So you need to do something called 'kitbashing' in model scene parlance - combine components of two or more kits.

With yanks and J-stuff, this is relatively straightforward, because they have been built to standard sizes.

And now you have the explanation why I bought three of the TE27 kits. Two of them will yield parts for other projects,

one of them is this Corolla, the other a 1970s Mitsubishi Colt. The Cedric, of which I have several as well, will donate

bits for a Kujira Crown, you get the idea.

Found this Hyundai Pony in the loft today when clearing it for the joiner who will arrive on Friday to make it into a den for my model car collection. I was sure I hadn't sold it in the recent cull. Glad i kept it!

Todays WTF! department presents... (I think it's safe to say that nobody here was likely to have been the high bidder on this!)

Can you please also check for the Karmann Typ 34 while you are at it?

Oh, and the Admirals, and the P7a, and the 12m and the Kapitän...

Damn. I'm too poor for this hobby.

I've been offered a load of BoS stuff today, Karmann T34, 12M, Admirals and Volvo P1900 included plus Mk1 Polo and Granada Estate.  If anyone is very interested then say the word I should add it isn't at all cheap - in fact its pretty damn expensive - but does contain some nice stuff.

Depends on exchange rate - they're priced in Euro pounds - and if the price quoted includes VAT (probably not) and also they'd need shipping here from Germany. Oh and theres a minimum order quantity

So if I assume the worst they'd need to be around the £105 - £115 mark which when MCW sell them for £79 seems a little on the ridiculous side.  Looks like MCW are a bit furred up with excess stock and have dumped some onto a wholesale guy over there. Trouble is everyone thinks that because its rare and exclusive that everyone can make a load of money out of it and its not the case.

Theres a lot of really nice resin models about at the moment but sadly the market for expensive 1:18 stuff is fairly small at present. I can't really see them being worth me doing to be honest which is a pity as they do look nice.

Still, a few boxes of Hotwheels cars arrived today and we've had a nice chat with our Oxford Diecast salesperson this week which involved a suggestion that we'd like them to knock out Maestros, Metros and Maxis (amongst others) in 1:76 - not entirely impossible it seems....

1:76 Montegos!

Pity about the BoS stuff but as I refuse to buy a model for more than I'd pay for a real car, I doubt I could get a BoS 240 estate or that glorious Granada estate for fifteen quid :(

1:76 Montegos!

I mentioned Montegos but he reckoned that Maestros and Metros were more likely as they would offer more variants from each casting - few different coloured road versions, an MG, Police car plus a racer or two

Boo and indeed hiss. Can't see that logic though if they've done Princesses though; there were road, MG, Rover and fuzz Montegos too. Hopefully a Maestro van will come of it if nothing else.

Still holding out for anyone at all to make a model Dolomite...

Posted

Didn't Corgi/Vanguards do one? I had a 1/43 Sprint police car so assume they'd have done other versions...

Posted

I had one myself - green Vanguards Sprint about 10-15 years ago. Can't seem to find any other than Vanguards ones though, and I'm not super keen on them. Might settle for one of the white 1850s.

Posted

You might get someone like Neo doing a Dolomite in resin although even then I'd be surprised as they've cancelled a few of the British cars they had announced and theres no real likelihood of anyone doing a diecast one anytime soon unless Corgi revive the casting which doesn't seem particularly likely to happen.
