So, the Majorettes from last Saturday, then...

IMG_20240421_1055072.jpg.f55ccadaca50c2e0b59ee5ecb3c98883.jpg

While I appreciate Majos, I have to say I'm seldom moved to actually fork over my own money for them these days.

Not because I don't like them - I just sorta have my hands full keeping tabs on Matchbox and Hot Wheels releases, without spreading my limited attention span yet thinner.

But... these were pleasingly cheap.

IMG_20240421_1055282.jpg.05f2d7d9fd5b42268e77e83561537150.jpg

I'm a bit of a sucker for a Dodge Charger, no matter who the maker. I just think it's such a magnificent shape of a car.

IMG_20240421_1055382.jpg.a116c929ff89ee599c09241a6a8e7a79.jpg

The shouty gold-on-matt-black graphics are maybe a little on the nose, and there's some paint chipping, but it's a fine model otherwise.

Most Majos seem to have some form of opening feature, which seemingly explains their higher price point to Mattel's mainline ranges, and the Charger boasts a bonnet that flips up.

IMG_20240421_1055462.jpg.a1a76770605ac275772ab6870f28a9eb.jpg

There's not an awful lot of detail to the powerplant, mind - but it's the thought that counts, right?

In a similar-but-different vibe, I also couldn't help but be smitten by the modern reinterpretation of the Dodge Challenger.

IMG_20240421_1056032.jpg.5aa7a6a3c2c424e803edd45cb8705118.jpg

Although the retro-vibe reworking loses some of the elegance of the original, it's still an impressive-looking bit of kit. This triple-black toy does capture some of the Hellcat's rather menacing aspect.

IMG_20240421_1056102.jpg.812c3f62b63f89e340fc7e0a15c0eb31.jpg

Badging and rear lights are crisply done; shame the headlights are part of the glazing and so look weirdly blue and slightly clunky.

IMG_20240421_1056202.jpg.c44035512f4f7af9933de1d7d758ac3d.jpg

Opening doors feature on this one, and the wheel and tyre choices look really good here.

Staying with septics, but getting less monochromatic, here's a Ford Mustang GT in a sort of satin gold finish:

IMG_20240421_1106292.jpg.8b1c2435227f0be4eb9da928b3284553.jpg

It certainly captures the Mustang's lairy vibe. Badging and lights are nicely rendered too.

IMG_20240421_1106352.jpg.a1c5bc2ecfe7015bb037b0c44a868a68.jpg

Shut lines on the opening doors are a bit more noticeable when the paint's not black, but I'm sure we've all seen worse.

Base is on all of these is perfunctory rather than detailed, mind. The German address is a nod to the fact that Majorette is a subsidiary of Dickie Toys GmbH these days, rather than an independent French company.

IMG_20240421_1106472.jpg.c5297b8c741636086f317c4204fd4e81.jpg

Even more aggressive-looking is the Nissan GT-R in full NISMO get-up.

IMG_20240421_1107032.jpg.3d15e429082d7b90a10220174bca3b19.jpg

With scoops and spoilers aplenty, it certainly appears purposeful.

IMG_20240421_1107082.jpg.7f693282b1d81a595d5461dd5490182f.jpg

Slightly surprisingly, the tail lights are just tampo printed onto a flat surface with no relief moulding. Given the amount of detailed sculpting elsewhere on the model, I'm not sure why.

IMG_20240421_1117392.jpg.076e1bd78b6d1c7f4687eef23354a890.jpg

But the fine red line running around the lower edges is a nice touch though.

IMG_20240421_1107182.jpg.b76e981a4b3f3f88ac84b54295cf557d.jpg

It's hard to pick out with my spudphone, but there's a fair bit of interior detail, including a racing-style steering wheel and roll cage.

Lastly, we've a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R.

IMG_20240421_1107493.jpg.46cced1a8e75550e37aa8ee66d8fb96f.jpg

While probably my least favourite of the five in terms of subject matter, it's still a nice rendering. Door mirrors are much more realistically sized than usually provided on toys of this scale.

IMG_20240421_1107542.jpg.9220e436080833dc510246a3f84051a5.jpg

Again, lights and badging are important little details that help lift it, visually.

This one, and the NISMO GT-R, were also on the stall in white with jazzy wiggly-line graphics, but I generally prefer plainer models wherever available - even though there seem to be a lot of recent releases finished in black.

There's even been a few instances where I've held off buying a particular Matchbox or Hot Wheels release, as I'd sooner wait and see if I can have it in a version that's not painted black.

But! For a pound each these weren't bad value, despite a couple of minor cosmetic issues.

Apparently these all came from a fella in Lisburn, who sells Colin stuff from time to time - this might or might not be the same guy as Hundred Hot Wheels Harry, who seemingly buys up cases in order to resell the sought-after stuff online, and then needs an outlet for the less desirable peg-warmers.

Dunno if I'm likely to pick up many more, but it's nice to have a bit of variety, no?

Did make one purchase....

Posted

Something turned up in the box room that will interest the Vauxhall Opel fans.

Sometimes when buying lots from auction an odd scale model turned up that was not 1/43rd, and I just filed them away in a box never to be looked at again. One such item was this.

DSCF4470.JPG.885cc5a7fd37b93d3cf3977c28bfc7ac.JPG

I'm guess that this is an Opel Dealer model because of the branding on the box.

DSCF4469.JPG.da97d070cc53426dc0585b95af1eafd0.JPG

It was made by Gama...

DSCF4468.JPG.f78025aed5c76aa3c7ba8279fd5c1a07.JPG

in 1/25th scale.

DSCF4467.JPG.6d76177be2ca893226e1982f75f64dbf.JPG

It's about twice the size of a 1/43rd model.

DSCF4456.JPG.37073cb96e3522a26e46c380fcae74b8.JPG

DSCF4464.JPG.5820e6c11f63a007134d701689ded68c.JPG

Good detail on the front, especially the right hand dip head lamps.

DSCF4463.JPG.2a1c927ea7d43a65cb440bff76761499.JPG

The rear has red lenses, but these lack the detail of the real thing.

DSCF4458.JPG.1dd0d3f75823f66e3d606b57336414ee.JPG

Dash is good for the era, which I think was mid 1980s, when the face lift Monza was on sale.

DSCF4460.JPG.3187f87371e274784fbee9e3694c6321.JPG

One odd thing, both doors have a reference number cast into them. Also note the side trim is black plastic which is sort of riveted through the body.

DSCF4465.JPG.acbc41f7aa177f253c62b4e5b748e769.JPG

The only thing that lets it down for me is there are no door mirrors, otherwise it's a nice piece.

I got this off ebay today a Corgi Rover 2000TC with the built in Jacks to take the wheels off . I got one of these as a kid in about 1974/1975 so it must have been new old stock then I reckon. I thought it was cool then & I still think it is.
The little spare wheel cover still hinges open & there is a wheel inside but i'm not opening it much for fear of the plastic hinge breaking.

Great detail for what is basically a toy, I love it. The Jacks on mine are steel coloured not gold though, as I thought they were ??

If anyone knows any information about this & other of these Corgi Jack cars, I'd appreciate it.
Cheers

I had many a Golden Jack car. I had the Rover, which did eventually loose the cover for the spare wheel. My favourite was the Safari Rally Hillman Hunter. I also had teh Pontiac Firebird, the Mini Marcos and the Rolls Corniche.

I only have a few examples of the Mini Marcos now

I agree it's a fun little thing. Any ideas on what it's worth?

I don't know whether to fit all the lights etc or leave it alone. The stickers don't look as though they'd be as effective as painting the inside of the lenses the right colours

Your Roiver is a really nice one, never seen the lid attached to the wheel cover!

As  kid I had golden jacks versions of

Mini Marcos, Oldsmobile Toronado, Chevrolet Camaro and Hillman Hunter

Corgi also made the Rover, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.

Originally they planned to make more such as the Pontiac Firebird, Ferrari Dino Sport and Lamborghini Miura, but changed them to Whizzwheels at the last minute. My childhood Miura has a Whizzwheels sticker over the Golden Jacks box.

Have a look at this https://sites.google.com/view/corgitoys/catalogues/1969

I do have the others in the range, just not sure where haha!

If you do have a few of them it's fun to swap the wheels around, you may have noticed my Rover was wearing wheels from a Hunter. I bought a couple of packets of wheels when I was a kid.

Tamiya PS-46? Amazing paint that reminds me of MG Rover's crazy Monogram range so I've just used it on a Rover 75.
